서해안 시대를 맞이하여 21세기를 열어나갈 새萬金 千拓綜合開發事業 기공식이 지난해 11월 28일 전북 부안군 변산면 대항리 현장에서 盧泰愚대통령, 曺京植농림수산부장관, 金榮鎭農漁村振興公私社長, 국회농림수산위원회 위원장, 전북도지사, 地域出身國會議員등 내외 귀빈과 지역 주민 2,400여명이 참석한 가운데 열려 사상 최대의 간척사업으로서 첫발을 내딛었다. 이날 盧泰愚대통령은 치사를 통해 "자손만대에 물려줄 웅대한 국토확장의 첫삽을 뜨게 되어 깊은 감회를 느낀다"면서 "만경, 김제의 넓은 벌이 우리나라의 곡창으로 겨레의 삶을 보장해온 터전이었듯이 새만금의 광활한 간척지를 21세기 번영을 기약하는 땅이 되도록 하자"고 당부하였다. 새만금사업의 공사기간은 '91년부터 98년까지 외곽방조제를 완공하고 2004년까지 내부개발을 완료할 예정이고, 총 사업비 1조 3천억원을 투입하게된다. 사업지역은 1도 3군 1시 19읍면동 (전북 옥구군, 부안군, 김제군, 군산시)에 걸쳐서 40,100ha를 개발하게 된다. 주요시설로는 부안군 변산면 대항리에서 可力島, 新侍島, 夜味島, 및 飛鷹島를 연결하는 세계 최장의 방조제 33km를 축조하고 방조제 위에는 4차선 도로를 설치하고 장항선이 군산하구둑을 경유, 이 방조제를 거쳐 고군산군도까지 갈 수 있도록 하는 철도부지도 건설된다. 이와 함께 새만금국제항을 개설, 연간 5,000만톤의 하역능력을 갖게 되고 고군산군도를 잇는 관광휴양지가 형성된다.

A nationwide survey was performed to know the geographical distribution of Gymnophalloides seoi (Digenea: Gymnophallidae) metacercariae in Korea, by examining the infection status of locally produced oysters, Crassosden gillu. A total of 24 coastal areas (myons) of 14 guns (=counties) in Kyonggi-do, Chollabuk-do, Chollanam-do, Kyongsangnam-do, Kyongsangbuk-do, or Kangwon-do, where natural oysters are produced but G. seoi has never been reported, and 13 areas (myons) of Shinan-gun, Chollanam-do, nearby the known endemic area, were surveyed. Oysters from non- endemic areas were free from G. seoi infection, except Byonsan-myon of Buan-gun, Chollabuk-do, where one of 50 oysters examined was infected with 15 metacercariae of G. seoi. In Shinan-gun, oysters from 10 areas including Aphae-myon (= township) and Anjwa-myon were infected with the metacercariae, with the infection rate ranging from 1.7% to 100% by areas. The intensity of infection was the highest in Aphae-myon, 785.9 metacercariae per oyster. The results indicate that high prevalence of G. seoi is confined to Shinan-gun, but low grade prevalence is also present in adjacent areas such as Buan- gun, Chollabuk-do.

Two endemic foci of heterophyid infections were discovered in coastal villages of Puan-gun. Chollabuk-do, and Sachon-gun. Kyongsangnam-do, Korea. Fecal examina- tions were performed on 153 inhabitants of Puan-gun and 138 of Sachon-gun, using cellophane thick smear and formalin-ether sedimentation technique. The helminth egg and/or protozoan cyst positive rate was 21.5% (33/153) in Puan-gun and 39.1% (54/138) in Sachon-gun. In Puan-fun, the egg Positive rate of heterophyids was the highest, 17.6%, and that of other parasites was 0.7-2.6% by parasite species. In Sachon-gun, that of heterophyids wa's 18.8%, followed by Clonorchis sinensis (12.3%). and other parasites (0.7-5.OBEI . Twenth-two (Puan-gun) and six (Sachon-gun) heterophyid egg Positive cases were treated loth praziquantel, and adult flukes were collected from their diarrheic stools. A total of 3,284 adult flukes of Heterophyes nocens was collected from all of the 22 patients treated in Puan-gun (3-778 individually) , and other trematodes were also collected from 2- 15 patients; Ftgidiopsis sumac, Stellcntchcsmus JcEcctus, Metogoninus Wokogaupci, M. miyntci, Stictodora Juscnta, Heterophwopsis continua, Acnnthopcrwphium kurognmo, and GWmnophaELoines seoi. In Sachon-gun, M. yokognwci (3,007 specimens), H. nocens (120), aud S. falcatus (46) were collected from 5 of 6 treated patients, and H. continuo and 5. tan each from one patient. The present study revealed that heterophyid flukes, especially If. nocens and M. Wokofowai, are prevalent in the southern and western coastal areas of Korea where fresh and/or brackish water fishes are popularly eaten raw.

This study was conducted to scientifically analyze on the trends of cultivation area and production, and to detect the suitable site for Morus alba cultivation in forest of Buan-gun for effective cultivation. During last 3 years, the cultivation area of M. alba has steadily been increased, and the mulberry production of Jeollabuk-do has been researched as the greatest in Korea. Especially Buan-gun has the largest cultivation area of M. alba. On the other hand, as the result of detecting the suitable site for M. alba cultivation by factors of altitude, aspect, slope, soil texture, and organism content using GIS, there was the 663 ha suitable site of the total of 16,608 ha. In this area, Byeonsan-myeon, Sangseo-myeon, and Jinseo-myeon were included with the largest area, therefore, it was considered that these were the favorable regions for the expansion of M. alba cultivation area. The result of this study would be expected to be used as the effective information when establishing the expansion plan for M. alba cultivation area focused on the forest of Buan-gun in the future.

잔라북도 부안군의 백천에 서식하는 기름종개속 어류의 표본을 조사한바, 종검색의 기준이 되는 수컷 가슴지느러미 기부에 출현하는 골질반은 참종개 Cogbitis koreensis 와 비슷하지만, 조골수역의 기름종개 속 모든 표본은 체측반문의 모양이 특이하고, 척추골수가 37-40개로 적으며 체장범위가 85m 이하인 소형인 점이 참종개와는 잘 구별되어 신아종 C.koreensis pumilus n. subsp.(부안종개, 신칭)로 명명 기재한다.
