Plastic wastes generated from domestic waste are separated by mixed discharge with foreign substances, and the cost of the separation and screening process increases, so recycling is relatively low. In this study, as a fundamental study for recycling mixed plastic wastes generated from domestic waste into concrete aggregates, changes in concrete properties according to the plastic waste types and the substitution rate were evaluated experimentally. The mixed plastic waste aggregate(MPWA) was found to have a lower density and a higher absorption rate compared to the coarse aggregate with good particle size distribution. On the other hand, the single plastic waste aggregate(SPWA) was composed of particles of uniform size, and both the density and the absorption rate were lower than that of the fin e aggregate. It was found that the MPWA substitution concrete did not cause a material separation phenomenon due to a relatively good particle size distribution even with the largest amount of plastic waste substitution, and the amount of air flow increased little. The compressive strength and flexural strength of the PWA substitution concrete decreased as the amount of substitution of the PWA increased due to the low strength of the PWA, the suppression of the cement hydration reaction due to hydrophobicity, and the low adhesion between the PWA and the cement paste. It was found that the degree of deterioration in compressive strength and flexural strength of concrete substituted with MPWA having good particle size distribution was relatively small.

Recently depletion of natural resources makes a deficiency of sand aggregation in the concrete works. In this study, the quality characteristics of concrete and aggregate according to blending fine aggregate in the river sand and the crash sand was analyzed by Normal method and Driscoll method which has used mixing of fine aggregate for asphalt mostly. Application of Discoll method to blend fine aggregate for concrete was studied in the first step to blend fine aggregates concrete. The fineness modulus, grading, slump, air content and compressive strength were tested by the two method, the results of Driscoll method was very similar to degree of err limits in comparison with those of Normal method in the same condition. As a result, Driscoll method is reasonable to use the fine aggregates mixture for concrete in river sand and crash sand.

This study evaluated the properties of Coal gasification slag(CGS) according to the CGS contents of cement mortar condition as a basic step to examine the applicability of CGS as concrete fine aggregate. Flow increased with increasing CGS contents for both Crushed sand a(CSa) and Crushed sand b+Sea sand(CSb+SS), but the amount of air contents decreased to the opposite tendency. Based on 28 days is maximum compressive strength was obtained at CGS 50% when CSa was used and CGS 75% when CSb+SS. The flexural strength were the maximum at 25% and 50% of CGS, but the tendency was similar to the compressive strength. Compared with CSa, the compressive strength and flexural strength 5% higher than those of CSb+SS, in CGS using of were about 5% higher than those of unused CGS. As a result of comprehensive study on the quality of mortar according to the CGS contents, it can be concluded that when CGS is mixed with fine aggregate at about 50%, it can contribute to securing workability and strength development positively so that resource recycling and quality improvement can be achieved at the same time.

In this study, in order to evaluate the characteristics of mortar and concrete using wood chip cogeneration plant flooring as fine aggregate, mortar characteristics according to wood chip aggregate replacement rate and water-cement ratio as a substitute for crushed sand, and concrete characteristics according to wood chip aggregate replacement rate were compared and evaluated. The cement mortar flow according to the wood chip aggregate replacement rate showed a tendency to increase as the wood chip aggregate replacement rate increased, and the compressive strength and flexural strength increased as the wood chip aggregate replacement rate increased. The slump and air content of concrete increased as the aggregate replacement rate increased, and the compressive strength and tensile splitting strength of concrete tended to increase as the wood chip aggregate replacement rate increased. Accordingly, the possibility of using the flooring by the cogeneration plant as a fine aggregate for concrete was confirmed.

The paper evaluates the effect of the physical property, fineness modulus (FM) and replacement ratio of crushed sand on the characteristics of concrete. This is intended to use crushed sand from Daegu-Kyungbuk region as the fine aggregate of concrete. The experimental result indicates that the replacement ratio of crushed sand needs to be less than 50% to satisfy the mixed gradation of both natural and crushed sand when their FMs are 2.0 and 3.2, respectively. The slump of concrete with crushed sand increased as the replacement ratio of crushed sand increased, while the workability of concrete with the replacement ratio of more than 75% was significantly reduced. The air content and bleeding rate of concrete was reduced as the replacement ratio increased. Furthermore, due to the enhancement of the concrete adhesive regardless of the FM of crushed sand, compressive strength of concrete tended to improve as the replacement ratio increased.

This study is to assess the differences between concrete having only one of fine aggregates such as crushed fine aggregates, sea sand and blast furnace slag in it and concrete having mixture of two kinds of those fine aggregates in it in order to find out how to deal with the lack of some aggregates. The findings are as follows. In terms of slump, the concrete containing sea sand and blast furnace slag has very low slump values while the concrete having the mixture of crushed fine aggregate and the other fine aggregates showed better workability. In terms of compressive strength, the concrete containing the mixture of two kinds of aggregates showed higher compressive strength. Accordingly, it is likely that the concrete containing the mixture of crushed fine aggregate, sea sand and blast furnace slag is better than the concrete with only one kind of fine aggregates in terms of the usability.

Recently, the use of crushed sand produced by the crushing of stone is continuously increasing to reach an utilization rate of about 20% of the whole fine aggregates that is foreseen to grow larger in the future. However, the lack of recognition concerning quality during the production of crushed sand results in the use of crushed sand that do not satisfy the KS F 2527 standard during the manufacture of concrete. And, studies investigating the effects of such crushed sand on concrete are still neglected. Therefore, this study intends to provide data that can be exploited for concrete using crushed sand through the analysis of the effects of the grain shape of crushed sand on the quality of concrete. Results revealed problems in the workability, air entraining and durability for a value of 53% for the solid volume percentage for shape determination specified by the current KS F 2527. Analysis showed that the adjustment of the solid volume percentage for shape determination from the currently specified 53% to 55% will improve the quality of concrete using crushed sand in high strength concrete particularly.

This study reviewed the possibility of recycling into exhausted aggregate resources in Korea as a means of utilizing coal gasification slag(CGS) from integrated gasification combined cycle(IGCC) while being commissioned in order to introduce the new system to Korea. In other words, in order to solve the problem of insufficient aggregate resources, CGS generated by IGCC as a residual aggregate for concrete secondary products, which is an empty mortar, was considered to replace CGS in the range of 0 to 100 % for mixed residual aggregate mixed with crushed sand A(CSa) of good quality and sea sand(SS) of deep particles, which are the most commonly used in the domestic construction industry. According to the study, replacing CGS with CSa or crushed sand B(CSb)+SS by 25 % to 50 % resulted in good results in the aspect of the granularity of the aggregate and the workability and compressive strength of cement mortar, which were found to be usable.

Recently, with the increase in the number of high rise and huge scaled buildings, ultra-high strength concrete with 80~100 MPa has been used increasingly to withstand excessive loads. Among the components of concrete, the effects of the kinds and properties of fine aggregates on the performance and economic advantages of ultra-high strength concrete need to be evaluated carefully. Therefore, this study examined the effects of the type of fine aggregates and mixing methods on the engineering properties of ultra-high strength concrete by varying the fine aggregates including limestone fine aggregate (LFA), electrical arc slag fine aggregate (EFA), washed sea sand (SFA), and granite fine aggregate (GFA) and their mixtures. Ultra-high strength concrete was fabricated with a 20 % water to binder ratio (W/B) and incorporated with 70 % of Ordinary Portland cement: 20 % of fly ash:10 % silica fume. The test results indicate that for a given superplasticizer dose, the use of LFA resulted in increases in slump flow and L-flow compared to the mixtures using other aggregates due to the improved particle shape and grading of LFA. In addition, the use of LFA and EFA led to enhanced compressive strength and a decrease in autogenous shrinkage due to the improved elastic properties of LFA and the presence of free-CaO in EFA, which resulted in the formation of C-S-H.

The aim of the research is to evaluate the possibility of using coal gasification slag (CGS) as a combined aggregate for concrete mixture. To achieve this goal, the fundamental properties and the durability of concrete were analyzed depending on various combining ratio of CGS into both fine aggregate with favorable gradation and relatively coarse particles. According to the results of the experiment, slump and slump flow were increased with content of CGS regardless of crushed fine aggregate with good and poor gradations while the air content was decreased. For the compressive strength of the concrete, in the case of using the crushed aggregate with good gradation, increasing CGS content decreased compressive strength of the concrete, while when the concrete used crushed aggregate with poor gradation, the compressive strength was the maximum at 50% of CGS content. As a durability assessment, drying shrinkage was decreased and carbonation resistance was improved by increasing CGS content. On the other hand, for freeze-thawing resistance, CGS influenced adverse effect on freeze-thawing resistance. Therefore, it is known that an additional air entrainer is needed to increase the freeze-thawing resistance when CGS was used as a combined aggregate for concrete.
