Analysis of Harbor Responses due to the Dredging Work at Waterway and Mooring Basin in Busan New Port (부산 신항만에서 수로 및 박지 준설에 따른 항만정온도의 변화 분석)

  • Recently the first stage of construction for Busan new port emerged over the sea surface at the north container terminal site. With this, there are lot of discussions and debates on increasing the water depth at the approaching channel and mooring basin from the existing 15m to 18m by dredging work in order to be able to serve 12,000TEU containership, and at the same time, correction to the reclamation plan of hinterland at the part of Undong Bay of the new port site. Since the attack of typhoon 'Maemi' in 2003, it is expected that the design wave parameters for coastal and harbor structures in this area would be somewhat changed and so the extreme wave condition at each terminal and tranquility of berthing area does, and therefore, it is necessary to analyze the tranquility at each berth. Hence in this study, we constructed a wave model for these conditions and performed simulation together with the circulation model simulation, compared with the field data collected. The result showed the increase of the harbor response throughout the basin but not severe condition. However, a certain location needs to be prepared for the rough sea condition when a severe typhoon hit the site.

  • In South Korea, a cloud-based vessel traffic service (Cloud VTS) system integrating the fourth industrial revolution technologies such as cloud and AI is currently under development in contrast to the existing VTS systems. A pilot center for at Busan VTS is being established based on differentiated technology and operational programs. The roles of operators and maintenance personnel who operate the innovative Cloud VTS system must be redefined. Additionally, a demand exists for the development of new educational programs to ensure the smooth operation of the Cloud VTS. Therefore, this study introduces the development details of a Cloud VTS system and explores educational strategies aimed at operators and maintenance personnel to ensure its safe operation.

  • A tremendous amount of budget has been put into the equipments of Korean ports, including Pusan. However, in fact, there is little systematic information system about them. Therefore , the demand of data on the equipments of National Development Project or New Port Development Project may be increasing1y needed. Techniques and information of the equipments, being rapidly developed all over the world, should be collected and analysed and then multimedia information system should be set up to use the information through internet This study suggests more efficient information system construction and its expectant effects by economic benefit analysis.

  • In Pusan Harbour, new port development projects are implemented such as the Extended Terminal adjacent to the Gamman Terminal, Pusan New Port, the Nary $\infty$ piers, etc. which will require new marine traffic environments in the Passage I of Pusan Harbour Specially, the turning basin of the Extended Terminal adjacent to the Gamman Terminal gas been designed to overlay the Passage I of Pusan Harbour, Which will interrupt the inbound traffic flow and the results will be worried to decrease the efficiency of port operation. Therefore, this paper will be aimed to evaluate the traffic congestion in the Pusan Passage I due to the opening of new ports within Pusan Harbour in 2006 and 2011 by using computer simulation based the queueing theory.

Development of Scale for the Service Quality from Entry to Departure of Container Ports (컨테이너항의 입항부터 출항까지의 서비스품질 척도 개발)

  • Recently, it becomes important for container ports to gain competitiveness through service differentiation strategies. These strategies require an objective evaluation on consumer needs. For that reason, this study aims at developing the scale and measurement methods for service quality. Container shipping companies calling at Busan are targeted for the empirical analyses. The measurement items are presented for the services that they are provided from entry into a port to departure from a port. Exploratory factor analysis and validity analysis are done to derive a service quality scale from entry to departure. The result of regression analysis implies that the service quality scale is useful to increase customer satisfaction and to establish managerial strategies.

A Study on the Model Development and Empirical Application for Predicting the Efficiency and Optimum Size of Investment in Domestic Seaports (국내항만투자의 효율성 및 적정 투자규모 예측을 위한 모형개발 및 실증적 적용에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this paper is to show the empirical measurement way for predicting the seaport efficiency by using Super SBM(Slack-based Measure) with Wilcoxson signed-rank test under CRS(constant returns to scale) condition for 20 Korean ports during 11 years(1997-2007) for 3 inputs(port investment amount, birthing capacity, and cargo handling capacity) and 5 outputs(Export and Import Quantity, Number of Ship Calls, Port Revenue, Customer Satisfaction Point for Port Service and Container Cargo Throughput). The main empirical results of this paper are as follows. First, Super SBM model has well reflected the real data according to the Wilcoxon signed rank test, because p values have exceeded the significance level. Second,Super-SBM has shown about 87% of predicting ratio for the ports efficiency and the optimal size of investment in domestic seaport. The policy implication to the Korean seaports and planner is that Korean seaports should introduce the new methods like Super-SBM method with Wilcoxon signed rank test for predicting the efficiency of port performance and the optimal size of investment as indicated by Panayides et al.(2009, pp.203-204).

  • Coastal settlements have a diversity of tangible or intangible local assets and are environmentally sensitive areas. The value of tangible or intangible local assets is often overlooked and there is no enough consideration for the inhabitants who have a various and acute stake in the development process of coastal settlements. The development of coastal settlements without consideration for the local circumstance, resident's needs, and local characteristics makes it difficult to achieve sustainable regeneration. There are also alienation, conflicts, and the loss of a authentic sense of place because of physical oriented development without regard to the social, economic, and cultural aspects. This research defines the components and types of coastal settlements and draws the characteristics of them around the fishery ports in Busan in the aspect of sustainable regeneration. It will be the important methods for an integrated regeneration including not only spatial and physical regeneration but also social and economic regeneration which has the preservation of local culture with living conditions, local economy activation, and community building. It will also provides the bases of sustainable development, attractiveness, and competitiveness of coastal settlements.

  • This study aims at advancing waterfront of Pusan Port and attempting to establish an identity through studying characteristics of place in Pusan Port. The place is consisted of two elements ; orientation and identity, which is expressed clearly the environmental totality including the character and space. The urban waterfront is also one of the place pattern, and that is consist of land area, water area, and transit zone combining two areas. Although there are a lot of primary factors to be able to make the most of the character and identity in Pusan port, badly planned development prevents the plan promoting the sense of place in urban waterfront. The point in the waterfront development plan of Pusan Port is how to secure aminities based on Identity and Orientation; node, landmark, edge, path, district. The result of this study is for planners to develop more and systematic approaches which could utilize waterfront.

  • 전남 서남권은 동남권 지역에 이어 제 2의 조선산업 클러스터를 위한 산업기반 구축이 진행되고 있다. 전남 조선산업의 유연성과 불황기 대처능력을 제고하고 한국 및 전남권의 항만 개발에 따른 수리조선 수요에 대처하기 위해, 전라남도는 수리조선산업 진출을 검토하고 있는 바, 전남 지역의 수리조선 경쟁력을 분석하였다. 수리조선산업의 산업적 특정과 수리조선 수요 결정 요인을 고찰하고, 유럽, 싱가포르, 중동, 중국 등 주요 수리조선국 사례의 시사점을 토대로 전라남도의 입지 여건, 비용 및 기술력을 종합적으로 검토하였으며, 부산 등 동남권 지역의 주요 거점용 물론 전남 지역 내의 후보지에 대한 비교 분석을 수행하였다.

The Role of ROS-NF-κB Signaling Pathway in Enhancement of Inflammatory Response by Particulate Matter 2.5 in Lipopolysaccharide-stimulated RAW 264.7 Macrophages (RAW 264.7 대식세포에서 지질 다당류에 의한 미세먼지(PM2.5) 유발 염증 반응 증진에 미치는 ROS-NF-κB 신호 전달 경로의 역할)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate whether the inflammatory response in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-treated RAW 264.7 macrophages could be promoted by particulate matter 2.5 (PM2.5) stimulation. To this end, the levels of inflammatory parameters, reactive oxygen species (ROS) and inflammation-regulating genes were investigated in RAW 264.7 cells treated with PM2.5 in the presence or absence of LPS. Our results showed that the production levels of pro-inflammatory mediators (nitric oxide and prostaglandin E2) and cytokines (interleukin-6 and -1β) were significantly increased by PM2.5 stimulation in LPS-treated RAW 264.7 cells, which was correlated with increased expression genes involved in their production. In addition, when LPS-treated RAW 264.7 cells were exposed to PM2.5, nuclear factor-kappaB (NF-κB) expression was further increased in the nucleus, and the expression of inhibitor of NF-κB as well as NF-κB in the cytoplasm was decreased. These results suggest that the co-treatment of PM2.5 and LPS further increases the activation of the NF-κB signaling pathway compared to each treatment alone, thereby contributing to the promotion of transcriptional activity of inflammatory genes. Furthermore, although the generation of ROS was greatly increased by PM2.5 in LPS-treated RAW 264.7 cells, the NF-κB inhibitor did not reduce the generation of ROS. In addition, when the generation of ROS was artificially suppressed, the production of inflammatory mediators and the activation of NF-κB were both abolished. Therefore, our results suggest that the increase in the NF-κB-mediated inflammatory response induced by PM2.5 in LPS-treated RAW 264.7 macrophages was a ROS generation-dependent phenomenon.
