  • The aim of this study was to analyze food waste treatment cost and to estimate effect of by-product, such as wastewater and foreign materials, on amount cost. In cost analysis, man power and facility capacity are fixed, whereas operation cost, by-product treatment and et, al. are varied by treatment methods. The rate of by-product treatment cost in amount cost are between 5% and 39%. The methods which consume large electric power or generate much wastewater showed higher rate of by-product treatment cost in range of 14 to 39%. On the other hand, the methods which have simple process showed lower rate in range of 5 to 11%. Thus, this study recommend that by-products should be treated in sewage treatment facilities or landfill sites to prevent illegal disposal of by-products or to reduce burden of by-product from private sectors.

  • Although intentional replantation is frequently used as a treatment modality for endodontic problems, severe periodontal involvement has usually been regarded as a contraindication. However, there are some studies suggesting that intentional replantation could be a successful treatment alternative for periodontally involved teeth. This paper reports the treatment of a tooth with severe periodontal involvement using intentional replantation. The tooth, which had had root canal therapy due to endodontic-periodontal combined lesion but showed extensive bone loss, was gently extracted and replanted after thorough debridement of the root surface. By intentional replantation, a tooth with severe periodontal involvement in this case could be preserved, without extraction, over the course of a 3-year follow-up period.

Guided tissue regeneration therapy after root canal therapy for long standing periodontal-endodontic combined lesion in the mandibular anterior area: case report (하악 전치부에서 발생한 치주-근관 복합 병소의 근관치료 후 조직 유도 재생술을 이용한 치료: 증례보고)

  • When inflammatory products are found in both periodontal and pulpal tissues simultaneously, a periodontal-endodontic combined lesion is established. The treatment of periodontal-endodontic combined lesions includes root canal therapy and periodontal regenerative procedure for resolution of both the apical and marginal inflammatory lesions. The present study reports the treatment of periodontal-endodontic combined lesions in the mandibular anterior area with root canal therapy, followed by guided tissue regeneration therapy. Teeth with severe bone destruction in each case could be preserved, without extraction, over a 3-year period. Therefore, it appears that treatment of periodontal-endodontic combined lesions in the mandibular anterior area using guided tissue regeneration technique after root canal therapy may provide clinical advantages.

  • BACKGROUND: Recently, the inflow of nonpoint pollutants into rivers caused by rapid urban and industrialization promotes the proliferation of algae, which causes eutrophication of rivers. This study was conducted to evaluate the seasonal variation of water quality characteristics and cryptomonads growth in the Oncheon River. METHODS AND RESULTS: The water quality and distribution characteristics of cryptomonads in the Oncheon River were investigated monthly for 12 months from January 2021. The cell number of cryptomonads was intensively developed in January-April, and it decreased sharply in the summer with heavy rainfall. In particular, cryptomonads moved to the downstream side of the river depending on the time, and as a result, significant differences were shown for each investigation point. The Korean trophic state index (TsiKO) in Oncheon River was classified as eutrophy all year round, indicating that cryptomonads can grow year-round. Distribution characteristics of cryptomonads in Oncheon River showed high correlations with DO (r=0.678), BOD (r=0.826) and chlorophyll-a (r=0.613) in water. CONCLUSION(S): In order to reduce cryptomonads in the Oncheon River, it is judged that a complex countermeasure considering the residence time, insolation and precipitation along with water quality factors is required.

  • Objective This study aimed to analyze the efficacy and safety of external washing therapy for seborrheic dermatitis based on randomized controlled clinical studies in China. Methods We used the China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) as a data resource and conducted a search using the following key words: "Seborrheic Dermatitis" and "外洗" Seven randomized controlled clinical studies were identified and analyzed in this study. Results 1. The external washing treatment group showed significant changes in total efficiency, relapse rates, Quality of life, and Hamilton depression rating scale, compared with the control group. 2. The most commonly used herbal medicines were Sophorae Radix (苦蔘), Thujae Orientalis Folium (側柏葉), Impatiens balsamina L. (透骨草), Phellodendri Cortex (黃柏), and Stemonae Radix (百部根). Conclusions The results indicate that external washing treatment is effective for patients with seborrheic dermatitis. Futher research on external washing treatment of seborrheic dermatitis in the future may be useful.

  • Rosai-Dorfman Disease (RDD) is a rare lymphoproliferative disease, and the occurrence of isolated intracranial RDD is extremely rare. Most cases of intracranial RDDs present as dural masses showing homogenous enhancement on MRI, which makes it difficult to differentiate these masses from meningiomas before surgery unless massive cervical lymphadenopathy is observed. We herein report a rare case of isolated intracranial RDD in a 65-year-old male. Brain MRI revealed a well-defined enhancing mass-like lesion involving the right frontal convexity and subtle diffusion restriction. However, only a subtle blush was observed on the preoperative cerebral angiogram. Although instances of isolated intracranial RDD are rare, it should be considered as a potential differential diagnosis when a dural mass with hypovascularity is visualized on the cerebral angiogram.

  • Breast lymphomas are rare, malignant breast neoplasms with a heterogeneous pattern of clinical symptoms. Burkitt's lymphoma is a rare, highly aggressive, and rapidly growing B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma. We report about a 27-year-old woman diagnosed as having secondary breast Burkitt's lymphoma, probably originating from the stomach, with multiple distant metastases. Breast ultrasonography revealed multiple, variable sized, heterogeneous masses with posterior acoustic enhancement and echogenic rims. These imaging findings may sometimes overlap with those of other breast malignancies. However, unlike other breast malignancies, lymphoma can be diagnosed by biopsy and does not require surgical excision. To avoid unnecessary treatment, radiologists and clinicians should be aware of the characteristic imaging features of breast lymphomas.
