The purpose of this study was to examine the workday leisure time of dual-income fathers and mothers with preschool children. Data were gathered from the Statistics Korea Life Time Surveys from 2004(y1) and 2019(y2) (n=2,697). Life time was composed of three types(inevitable time, compulsory time, and leisure time) and leisure time was categorized into 11 activities(voluntarism, participation, social relationships, religion, rituals, culture and tourism, sports, game and play, media, rest, and others) to investigate gender differences and time effects. The major results were as follows: First, both working fathers and mothers with preschool children spent less inevitable time, more compulsory time, and less leisure time, than other adult group. Second, fathers spent more time on 10 leisure activities except religion in y1, and on all activities than mothers in y2. In y2, less time on three activities(social relationships, rituals, and media) for both fathers and mothers, less time on religion for mothers only, more time on two activities(participation, game and play) for both groups were spent than y1. Third, in the regression analysis of fathers' and mothers' leisure time on three leisure activities(sports, game and play, and media) with a distinct pattern from leisure time for adult group between y1 and y2, socioeconomic variables and lifetime variables showed different effects by gender and waves. Based on the results, family policy and programs to improve the work-life balances of working fathers and mothers discussed.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate factors affecting childhood asthma and atopic dermatitis. Methods: For this study, data for 1,170 children (1-11 years) from the Fifth Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES V-2, 2011) were analyzed. First correlation matrices were computed to test the normality of every data set and then to be in accordance with the real demographic composition, data were added weight before being analyzed. Results: The child with asthma of a three generation family (OR=3.91, 95% CI [1.33, 11.45], p=.013) compared with a two generation family showed higher asthma development, and maternal asthma (OR=9.71, 95% CI [2.66, 35.40], p=.001) showed higher asthma development in child. The only factor affecting atopic dermatitis was parental perceptions of child health: poor (OR=3.40, 95% CI [1.29, 8.98], p=.014). Conclusion: These results suggest that childhood asthma and atopic dermatitis are both affected by parental perceptions of child health. Accordingly, management and support programs for children who have asthma and/or atopic dermatitis and their families should be comprehensive and also give attention to any other health problems because health perception represents quality of life.
Many studies have demonstrated that family plays a crucial role in health and wellbeing in life. There has been little research, however, examining the relative importance of activities together with family members in middle-aged adults. The goal of this study was to examine the effect of family meal, phone conversation with family, and family leisure activities on happiness, health, and family relationship. Total 286 middle-aged adults (M=50.13) participated in this study. Dependent variables were happiness (SWB), physical and psychological illness symptoms, family satisfaction, sex satisfaction, and parenting sense of competence. This research showed that (1) frequency of meal with family was positively correlated with happiness, family relationship, and negatively physical/psychological illness symptoms; (2) high frequency of talking on the phone with family resulted in that high level of happiness, family satisfaction, sex satisfaction, and parenting sense of competence, and lower illness symptoms; (3) the more participants spent leisure time with family, the happier and the more family satisfaction they feel. Findings suggest that activities together with family members in middle-aged adults may enhance their happiness, health, and quality of family relationship. The implication for current study were discussed.

This study was attempted to identify factors affecting depression by stress causes. Data from the 2018 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey were used, total subjects was 2,939. Data were analyzed by complex sample frequency, percentage, x2-test and regression by SPSS 25.0. As a result, in the economic problem group, gender, occupation, health-related quality of life, weight change, smoking, subjective health status and subjective body image were significant influencing factors for depression, and explanatory power was 28.7% (F = 8.23, p < .001). In the parent, child, and spouse problem group, age, health-related quality of life, weight change, and subjective health status were significant, explanatory power was 33.1% (F = 6.92, p <.001). In the self and family health problem group, gender, health-related quality of life, weight change, smoking, and subjective health status were significant, explanatory power was 29.6% (F = 5.74, p < .001). Through the results, the influencing factors that appear differently according to each stress cause can be used as basic data to establish an individualized intervention strategy.
Among many factors that affect the development of the talent of gifted children, the family factor that first finds and cultivates the talent of gifted children is quite important. The researches on the family of gifted children are mostly concentrated on physical environment out of the home environment, neglecting psychological environment. Although the recreational activity of family with gifted children considerably contributes to the emotional, intellectual and social development of gifted children themselves and to the improvement of life quality of the family members, the recreation of family with gifted children has not yet been studied. Thus, the objective of this research is to present basic materials for seeking the direction to educate parents and to support family with gifted children in order to encourage synergy effect in emotional and social growth of family with gifted children by surveying the property of recreation of family with gifted children. The result of result is as follows. First, the type of family with gifted children tends to be remarkably biased to 'family-oriented activity' and 'elf-development activity.' One of the most popular keywords in 21th century is "Information Society". Information Society improves the overall quality of human life, but increases the negative aspects such as internet addiction and digital divide. The purpose of this study is to understand the vicious cycle between socio-economic disparities and digital divide. This study analyzed the effects of poverty on school maladjustment and academic achievement and mediation effects by using parental monitoring and internet use types as mediators. Data were obtained from the Korea Youth Panel Survey(KYPS). Structural equation modeling was employed for statistical analyses. The result showed that poverty reduced parental monitoring and information-oriented type of internet use. Youth who used less information-oriented type showed more school maladjustment and less academic achievement. However, the relationship between poverty and entertainment-oriented type was non-significant. Thus, parental monitoring and the internet use types were one of the main pathways which can affect school maladjustment and academic achievement among youth in poverty. There was the possible vicious cycle between poverty and digital divide. Based on this study, we strongly suggest improvement of the media competence to solve the problem of digital divide among youth in poverty.

Background: In cerebral palsy (CP), parents' quality of life and rearing attitude are considered possible factors that influence patients' quality of life, function level, and performance in daily activities. Despite these facts, little attention has been given to demonstrate a relation between these factors. Objects: This study aimed to demonstrate the relationship between parents' quality of life, functional level, and performance in daily activities, the quality of life of school-aged children with spastic CP. Methods: This study included 24 parents of school-aged children with spastic CP. The KIDSCREEN-52 and World Health Organization quality of life (WHOQOL)-BREF questionnaires (including physical, psychological, social, and environmental domains) were used as research tools to assess the quality-of-life profiles of the children with spastic CP and those of their parents, respectively. In addition, the function levels and performance in daily activities of the children with CP were assessed by using the gross motor function measure (GMFM) and modified Barthel index (MBI). Correlation and multiple regression analyses were performed to clarify the determinants of the quality of life of the children with CP. Results: The KIDSCREEN-52 score correlated with the total score (r=.735, p<.01) and all domains of the WHOQOL-BREF questionnaire (physical: r=.542, p<.01; psychological: r=.690, p<.01; social: r=.568, p<.01; and environmental: r=.783, p<.01). In addition, significant correlation was found between the KIDSCREEN-52 and MBI scores (r=.411, p<.05), and between the MBI and GMFM scores (r=.427, p<.05). After controlling for age, gender, paralytic type, GMFM, and MBI, the WHOQOL-BREF score ($R^2=.621$), particularly in the environmental domain ($R^2=.699$), remained independently related to the quality of life of the children. Conclusion: These findings suggest that the quality of life of school-aged children with spastic CP can be influenced by the quality of life of their parents. This study provides useful information for future studies to investigate the quality of life of children with CP.
The number of stepfamilies is rapidly growing in our society according to social changes. So family programs especially for stepfamily relationship enforcement with adolescents at home are needed. The purpose of this study is to investigate the direction of family programs for enforcing the stepfamily relationship between stepparents and stepchildren. For the purpose, case studies from those stepfamilies were analyzed through qualitative interviews and early developed program contens were referred. Based on discussion mentioned above, program development direction for stepfamily relationship enforcement is not only dealing with difficulties of stepfamilies in their early remarriage but also emphasizing their advantages. In conclusion, this program development direction expected stepfamilies to resolve their problems and to prevent their family break up as well as to deliver practical benefits.
