  • This study aimed to empirically analyze the factors that influence newlyweds' housing tenure. For this, a questionnaire survey was conducted among newlyweds living nationwide who had been married for 5 years or less and were under the age of 40. The results of the survey were empirically analyzed by applying various variables. With regard to parental financial support among the factors influencing newlyweds' housing tenure, the analysis results showed that the probability of owner occupancy was high among the households with parental financial support than among those with none, and the larger the size of the parental financial support was, the higher the probability that the newlyweds owned the house they were occupying. As for the housing loan variable, it was found that the probability of owner occupancy was high among the newlyweds with a housing loan than among those with none, and the larger the amount of the newlyweds' housing loan was, the higher the probability that they owned the house they were occupying. As opposed to what is generally recognized, however, the survey showed that the higher the ratio of dual earners is, the lower the owner occupancy probability due to the probability of job transition, etc. In addition, it was found that the probability of owner occupancy for the newlyweds living in Seoul was lower than that for the newlyweds living in other regions in South Korea. Accordingly, this study showed that appropriate levels of parental economic indicators should also be reflected in the stable housing support and loan policies for newlyweds in the context that the succession to their parents' fortunes is generalized.

For this purpose, online and face-to-face surveys were conducted for 411 unmarried men and women in their 20~30s living in the Daegu, Gyeongsangbuk-do and Gyeongsangnam-do areas. The SPSS 25.0 program was used for analysis and the results are as follows. First, in the general characteristics of the study subjects, there was a significant difference in marriage values according to gender, age, marriage type of parents, religion, and birth order, but no significance found according to education and occupation, family members living together, monthly average household income, or education of parents. Also, marriage image showed significant difference based on gender, marriage type of parents, and marriage intention. Second, the parenting attitude perceived by adult children confirmed that the lower the father's rejective parenting attitude and the higher the mother's acceptive parenting attitude, the more stable the value of marriage was and that the effect of parenting attitude on marriage image confirmed that the lower the father's rejective parenting attitude, the better the marriage image.

  • In this study, the housing-related characteristics of the youth are reviewed using data from the 4th - 14th Youth Panel Survey(YP2007) of the Korea Employment Information Service in the period 2010 - 2020. The factors that affect the characteristics of their dwelling are analysed. As a result, males, highly educated, and employed people are more likely to live in their own homes and apartments, but many of them seem to be living with their parents. On the contrary, economically independent young people tend to occupy their dwellings in the form of jeonsei/monthly rent and live in multi-family units, villas, and officetel. To support the youth in overcoming their key issues such as housing affordability, jobs, and marriage, so that they can play their roles, the cost of homeownership and rent should be tailored to their economic situations.

Methods: We selected 244 students who completed a questionnaire about general characteristics, sexual attitude, sexual intercourse experience, depression. It was analyzed by logistic regression using sexual attitude of university student, father, and mother as explanatory variables. Results: The results showed that sexual intercourse experience was more frequent in the respondents who were more open about sexual attitude, those whose mothers have more open mind to sexual attitude, and those who were less depressed. Conclusions: The sexual intercourse experience is important to affect the upcoming adult period in university students. This study suggests that it is necessary to develop systematically the sexual education program in university and society.

  • Using youth panel data, this study attempted to diagnose the effect of residential characteristics (housing type and housing type) and various household background variables on the implementation of youth NEET (Not in Employment, Education or Training), and to suggest appropriate policy directions. As a result of the analysis, it was found that young individuals residing in unfavorable living conditions such as those who rent on a monthly basis or live in multi-household, villa, or officetel settings, had a higher likelihood of transitioning to NEET. Those who received financial support from their parents were more likely to transition to NEET. Therefore, comprehensive youth NEET support policies such as customized housing and job policies according to the characteristics of NEET should be established. In particular, even though they have reached adulthood, it is shown that the likelihood of becoming NEET is very high for youth who live together with their parents without being economically independent or who receive financial assistance from their parents. In order to mitigate and prevent these young people from NEET transition, transitioning from school to the labor market should be facilitated with policy support.

  • Objective: This study examined the role of siblings with respect to living arrangements between married children and their parents. Previous studies have rarely considered the possibility that family context such as siblings may be associated with intergenerational residential proximity. Method: Using data from first wave of the Korean Longitudinal Study of Ageing (2006), I investigated if, among married children, their sibling characteristics may be associated with the probability of their coresiding with the parent(s), living nearby (within a 30-minute distance from parent(s) by public transportation), or living further away. Specifically, the total numbers of sisters and brothers, the numbers of siblings coresiding with the parent(s) and living nearby, their relative position in the sibling network (first-born son, later-born son, first-born daughter, later-born daughter), and sibship existence and gender configurations (only child, son with brother(s) only, son with sister(s) only, son with both brother(s) and sister(s), daughter with brother(s) only, daughter with sister(s) only, daughter with both brother(s) and sister(s)) were evaluated in the study. For data analysis, multinomial logit models with robust standard errors were estimated using the Stata mlogit procedure. Results: Results suggest that the probability of a married child living together with the parent(s), relative to living close by, was significantly higher the more sisters he or she has. Being a son, especially first-born son, was associated with a higher probability of intergenerational coresidence compared to near residence, respectively. Also, the numbers of siblings coresiding with the parent(s) and living in close proximity were linked to a higher risk of intergenerational coresidence and near residence. Supplementary analyses revealed that the last finding was held over and above the total number of siblings, their relative position in the sibling network, as well as sibling existence and gender configurations. Conclusion: Overall, the study findings indicate that sibling characteristics have significant impacts on intergenerational living arrangement. The influence of traditional patrilineal norm of intergenerational coresidence and a trend towards modified extended family have emerged when siblings characteristics are taken into consideration as determinants of intergenerational living arrangement.

  • The aim of this study is to estimate the prevalence of obesity and factors with it Ulsan secondary school girls. A cross-sectional study involving a sample of 485 students aged 12 to 15 years was obtained form secondary schools. Obesity was determined using body mass index(BMI=wt/Ht$^2$). The findings revealed that the average BMI was 19.3, and 4.5% of girls were either overweight and obese(BMI$\geq$25). Subjects were grouped into three categories based on the BMI, sibling obesity, self-consciousness of obesity, eating patterns such as eating snack after dinner and prejudice in food selection, and food frequency score were significantly associated nth BMI, while nutrition knowledge score was not associated with BMI. The fact that several social, environmental and health factors are associated with obesity means that a multisectorial intervention program must be considered in order to decrease the problem of overweight among secondary girls. Such program should include dietary intervention to modify food habits, nutrition education through mass media, introducing information on prevention and control obesity in school curriculum, and allocating sufficient time in the school schedule for exercise activities.
