  • In spite of the previous research that had been emphasizing the importance of parents' assistance for revealing genius and achievement of their children, there was not enough information about how to drive the parents participation and support. Not considering "what and why" about the supporting of parents of gifted students, it was vaguely generalized that the education from the supporting parents was important. However, this situation will have a possibility of missing out on more important things of gifted children's parental support. Therefore, this research will deal with a variety of effective ways to clarify what the parents can do to support their gifted children and the problems that are related to those ways. Furthermore, by suggesting some of the ways that can complement the system of current parental support, it will set up fundamental ways to help the supporting parents.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze how parents' income, goal, expectancy, and value affect their parents' child supporting behavior, and to understand the behavior of parents supporting their children of elite athletes. For this, the influence relations of parental supporting cost/time according to income, children's achievement level, parents' sports parenting objective, achievement expectancy, and task value were analyzed through simple regression analysis and hierarchical regression analysis. As a result of the study, income and identity objective had an effect on supporting time. Income affected the supporting cost. Achievement expectancy had a moderating effect of income on supporting cost, and usefulness value had a moderating effect on income and relational objective. It is significant that it provided a quantitative basis for understanding parents' child supporting behavior.

Data were analyzed using Pearson's correlation and hierarchical multiple regression analysis. Results of this study show that self-efficacy for parenting related to children's achievement and recreation, social support from the husband were positively correlated to the parent involvement of early childhood education. Also, mothers' self-efficacy for parenting task mediated between social support and parent involvement of early childhood education.

  • Recently increasing young adults have experienced serious economic difficulties in their transition to adulthood and so a great deal of parents have to help their children financially even well after children finish their schools. Utilizing the 2008 Social Survey, a nationwide representative survey collected by the Statistics Korea, this paper examines how children, mothers, and fathers think about parental support to adult children. Respondents of the 2008 Social Survey answer how much parents support economically to their children about the following four items: college education, graduation school education, spending money while searching for jobs, and marital preparation. Analyzing a sample of 1,727 high school students and their parents, I find that the three family members generally accept economic support to the above items as part of parental duties. Also comparisons of the three family members' attitudes indicate that they usually reach the consensus about the dutiful scope of parental support to adult children. Logistic regressions reveal that male teens and children with conservatism are more likely to believe in wider scope of parental economic duties. And parents who are on good terms with children and are high in educational and occupational levels are more willing to support adult children. I conclude with implications of the findings for intergenerational relationships.

  • This study used the data of students from the 6th grade to the 3rd grade of middle schoolin the Korean Educational Longitudinal Study 2013 and classified them into subgroups with similar longitudinal changes in math academic achievement. In addition, the influence of longitudinal changes in the group's academic self-concept and teachers and parents academic support on the longitudinal changes in math academic achievement were analyzed, either directly or indirectly. As a result of the analysis, it was found that the academic self-concept of each group had a positive influence on the academic achievement in mathematics. In addition, the academic support of teachers and parents was found to have a positive influence on the academic achievement in mathematics through the mediating of the academic self-concept. In terms of direct and indirect influence on academic self-concept and math vertical scale scores, it was found that teachers' academic support had more influence than parents' academic support. The educational implications of these points were discussed.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the influence of career support and teacher relations of parents in order to determine the career determination of multicultural youths, and to confirm the influence of career preparation between parental career and care support and teacher relations. To this end, data from 2017 (the 7th year) was used among the data from the Multicultural Youth Panel Survey (MAPS). According to the analysis results, first, career support, teacher relations, and career preparation of multicultural youth parents have a positive impact on career determination. Second, the importance of the relative influence of career preparation, which is an internal context factor, was also confirmed in the process of determining the career path of multicultural youths. Third, it was analyzed that the higher the career and childcare support of multicultural youth parents, the more positive the teacher relationship, the higher the career determination. Career preparation was confirmed to play a role in mediating career support and teacher relations among multicultural youth parents in determining career paths. Based on the results of this analysis, practical alternatives were proposed to enhance the career determination of multicultural youths.

  • The purpose of the study is to explore the experience of participants who have provided a chidlcare service, and to suggest implications for childcare service for adolescent parents. The author used a purposive sampling method to select 3 cases with experiences related to childcare service, collecting data via direct interview and by obtaining a written text describing their case management. An inductive (open) coding approach was utilized to draw themes and categories from the data. The 6 categories describing service providing experiences of the study participants include "motives for participate a childcare service", "contents of service provided by participants", "tries to establish relationship with adolescent parents", "deepening of understand about adolescent parents", "limits of providing services". • College tuition is a significant economic, social, and political issue in Korea. We conduct a Bayesian analysis of a hierarchical model to address the factors related to college tuition based on a survey data collected by Statistics Korea. A binary response variable is selected depending on if more than 70% of tuition costs are supported by parents, and a hierarchical Probit model is constructed with areas as groups. A set of explanatory variables is selected from a factor analysis of available variables in the survey. A Markov chain Monte Carlo algorithm is used to estimate parameters. From the analysis results, income and stress are significantly related to college tuition support from parents. Parents with high income tend to support children's college tuition and students with parents' financial support tend to be mentally less stressed; subsequently, this shows that the economic status of parents significantly affects the mental health of college students. Gender, a healthy life style, and college satisfaction are not significant factors. Comparing areas in terms of the degrees of correlation between stress/income and tuition support from parents, students in Kangwon-do are the most mentally stressed when parents' support is limited; in addition, the positive correlation between parents support and income is stronger in big cities compared to provincial areas.

  • The authors aimed to identify the patterns of mutual support between aged parents and their adult offsprings and to analyze the demographic and social characteristics of each pattern and the quality of living for the aged parents. The data of the study were drawn from the 2008 Survey of the Living Conditions and Welfare for the Elderly published by the Ministry of the Health and Welfare. The sample of our analysis was 14,843 aged persons with their adult offsprings. A cluster analysis produced four types of mutual support patterns: High mutual supporters, parents as beneficiaries, parents as benefactors, ans low mutual supporters, with parents as benefactors as the most frequent pattern of mutual support. The study showed that the group of high mutual supporters was highest in the quality of life while the group of parents as beneficiaries lowest. This findings imply that the support relationship between old people and their adult offsprings may undergo transformation towards a two-way relation of mutual support.
