  • This paper presents an efficient reanalysis algorithm, named PRAS (Partial Reanalysis algorithm using Adaptable Substructuring), for the partially changed structures. The algorithm recalculates directly any displacement or member force under consideration in real time without a full reanalysis in spite of local changes in member stiffness or connectivity_ The key procedures consists of 1) partitioning the whole structure into the changed part and the unchanged part, 2) condensing the internal degrees of freedom and forming the unchanged part substructure, 3) assembling and solving the new stiffness matrix from the unchanged part substructure and the changed members.

  • The effectiveness of the isolation system installed at the base of the primary structure and at the support of the substructure mounted on the primary structure is evaluated for reducing of structural responses under different earthquakes in this paper. The structural responses are analyzed to identify its behavior due to the input motion characteristics such as various peak acceleration and frequency content. Three analytical models are used to evaluate the effectiveness of the isolation system in this study as follows: fixed-base primary structure with support-fixed substructure, base-isolated primary structure with support-fixed substructure, and fixed-base primary structure with support-isolated substruciure. A computer code (KBISAP) is used for numerical integration of equation of motion considering the interaction between the primary structure and the secondary structure. The matrix condensation technique and constant average acceleration method are utilized in this program. And also, the effective stiffness of the base-isolator on reducing the structural response are evaluated for various earthquakes through the relationship of the acceleration - displacement.

  • The ore depositional and geochemical exploration on Bougouni area in Mali, central-western Africa covering $2,000\;Km^2$ was conducted for determining the detailed survey area. According to the results of this exploration, the highly potential area for the zinc-tin-gold-silver mineralization was found in Kolani and Riarako areas. The contents of zinc in heavy sand collected in the stream sediments range from 14 to 8,600 ppm, while the mean values of zinc in this area are 543 ppm with threshold($x+2{\sigma}$) of zinc anomalies being 1,000 ppm in Bougouni area. Generally zinc anomalies are associated with the tin and molybdenum anomalies and hence the anomalous area was selected for the detailed survey area for tracing the primary zinc and precious ore deposits related to these anomalies in following project.

  • A new solution procedure for approximate reanalysis, using the staged hybrid methods with substructuring, is proposed in this study. Displacements are calculated with two step mixed procedures. First step is to introduce the conservative approximation, which is a hybrid form of the linear and reciprocal approximation, as local approximation. In the next step, it is combined with the global approximation by reduced basis approach. Stresses are evaluated from the displacements by matrix transformation. The quality of reanalyzed quantities can be greatly improved through these staged hybrid approximations, specially for large changes in the design. Overall procedures are based on substructuring scheme. Several numerical examples illustrate the validity and effectiveness of the proposed methods.

  • An efficient method for generating floor response spectra with the structure-equipment interaction effects is proposed. Floor response spectra are computed from a prescribed ground response spectrum by a random vibration approach. Transfer function of equipment response for earthquake excitation is constructed directly from the modal properties of the individual structures. The method also can account for the nonproportional damping characteristics of the combined system.

  • The efficient dynamic modeling of a satellite with flexible solar arrays is established by using the component mode synthesis technique. A flexible satellite model can be defined as the assembly of two sub-structures, central body and solar array. The reduced models of each substructure, which are expressed in each local frame, are coupled with respect to the satellite reference frame. The dynamic modeling method is applied to the numerical example of a satellite with a single solar array, and is verified by investigating the transfer function results with considering the solar array rotation.

  • In this paper, the sub-structuring technique-applied train-bridge interaction analysis model, which is formulated based on the simplified three-dimensional train-bridge interaction analysis model for high-speed bridge-train interaction analysis, is presented. In the sub-structuring technique, the super-structure and the supporting structure of railway bridges can be modeled as sub-structures, and train-bridge interaction analysis can be efficiently performed. As a train analysis model, two-dimensional train model is used, and the Lagrange equation of motion is applied to derive the equation of motion of two-dimensional train. In the sub-structuring technique, the number of degrees of freedom can be reduced by using the condensation method, thus reducing the time and cost for calculating the eigenvalues and eigenvectors, and the time and cost for the subsequent calculation. In this paper, Guyan reduction method is used as sub-structuring technique. By combining simplified three-dimensional bridge-train interaction analysis and Guyan reduction method, the efficient and accurate bridge-train interaction analysis can be performed.

  • Efficient approximate reanalysis techniques based on substructuring are presented. In most optimal design problems, the analysis precedure must be repeated many times. In particular, one of the main obstacles in the structural optimization systems is high computational cost and time required for the repeated analysis of large-scale structural systems. The purpose of this paper is to show how to evaluate efficiently the sturctural behavior of new designs using information from the previous ones, instead of the multiple repeated analysis of basic equations for successive modification in the optimal design. The proposed reanalysis method is a combined Taylor series expansion and reduced basis method based on substructuring. Several numerical examples illustrate the effectiveness of the method.

  • Multi-level Multi-objective optimization(MLMO) for reinforced concrete framed structure is performed, and compared with the results of single-level single-objective optimization. MLMO method allows flexibility to meet the design needs such as deflection and cost of structures using weighting factors. Using Multi-level formulation, the numbers of constraints and variables are reduced at each levels, and the optimization formulation becomes simplified. The force approximation method is used to reflect the variation in design variables between the substructures, and thus coupling is maintained. And the linear approximated constraints and objective function are used to reduce the number of structural analysis in optimization process. It is shown that the developed algorithm with move limit can converge effectively to optimal solution.
