The water wave interactions on any three-dimensional structure of arbitrary geometry can be calculated numerically through the use of source distribution or Green's function techniques. However, such a method can be computationally expensive. In the present study, the water wave interactions in floating circular cylinder arrays were investigated numerically using the eigenfunction expansion method with the three- dimensional potential theory to reduce the computational expense. The wave excitation force, added mass coefficient, radiation damping coefficient, and wave run-up are presented with the water wave interactions in an array of 5 or 9 cylinders. The effects of the number of cylinders and the spacing between them are examined because the water wave interactions in floating circular cylinder arrays are significantly dependent upon these.

This paper presents a derailed application procedure of the linear quadratic(LQ) theory for a SWATH heave and pitch control. A time domain model of coupled, linear time-invariant second order differential equations is derived from the frequency response model with the frequency dependent added mass and damping approximated as constant values at the heave natural frequency. Wave exciting forces are modeled as a sum of sinusoids. A systematic selection procedure of state and control weighting matrices is presented to obtain good transient behavior and acceptable fin movement. The validity of this controller design process is throughly investigated by simulations both in time domain and frequency domain and singular value plots of transfer function matrices. The finally designed control system shows good overall performances revealing that the applicability of the present study is proved successful.

In this paper, hydroelastic responses of the very large floating structure are studied based on the linear potential theory. A theoretical method is developed to analyze the hydroelastic reponses of very large floating structures(VLFS) using the pressure distribution method and the modal expansion method. The singularities distributed on a zero draft plate at the free surfaces and hydrodynamic pressures are evaluated. The deflections of structure are expanded approximately in terms of natural mode functions of free-free beam. The calculated items are pressure distributions. vertical motions, hydrodynamic coefficients and bending moments of VLFS. The numerical results are compared with those measured by experiments.

The source and source/dipole distribution methods using 3-dimensional panel method have been widely used for ship motion analysis. When these methods are used, large errors in the predicted hydrodynamic coefficients are introduced around the irregular frequencies caused by the resonance of imaginary internal flow. Therefore, the irregular frequencies need to be removed for an accurate prediction of ship motion. This paper adopts 3-dimensional translating and oscillating Green function derived by Wu. The adaptive integration method, stretching transform and stationary phase method are used for the calculation of the calculation of Green function and the integral equation is derived by distributing the Green function n ship surface and inner free-surface. The condition of zero normal velocity, that is, wall condition on inner free-surface has been successfully used for the removal of irregular frequencies in oscillating problems. The calculations are carried out for series 60($C_B=0.7$) vessel and the results are compared with those of other theoretical analyses and experiment.
Railway bridges with continuously welded rail have a limitation of span length due to track-bridge interaction. In order to overcome this, a sliding slab track system has been developed that comprises with a low-frictional sliding layer between the bridge deck and the track slab to isolate the longitudinal behavior between the bridge and the track. In this study, a real scale track system is prepared to experimentally evaluate the longitudinal frictional behavior. Applied loading rates were 0.2, 1.0, 5.0 and 10mm/min; vertical mass on the track are track slab only, 5,000 and 10,000kg added mass, respectively. Test results showed that the resulting frictional coefficients varied from 0.22 to 0.33. In addition, 10,000 cycle loadings were applied to simulate repetitive sliding to represent 30 years of service life. The frictional coefficient increase was measured and found to be 7% of that of the initial loading stage, which means that the sliding layer is adequate to provide low-frictional behavior for the sliding slab track system. Effects of changes of the frictional coefficient of the sliding layer were analyzed by rail-structure interaction analysis.

Dynamic response of floating structures such as floating body and floating bridges subject to wave load is to be calculated in frequency domain. Added mass coefficient, damping coefficient and wave exciting force are obtained numerically from frequency domain formulation of linear potential theory and boundary element method for a floating body which is partially submerged into water and subjected to wave force. Next, the equation of motion for the dynamic behavior of a floating structure which is supported by the floating bodies and modeled with finite elements is written in frequency domain. hker a hemisphere is analyzed and compared with the published references as examples of floating bodies, the hydrodynamic coefficients for a pontoon type floating body which supports a floating bridge are determined. The dynamic response of the floating bridge subject to design wave load can be solved using the coefficients obtained for the pontoons and the results are plotted in the frequency domain. It can be seen from the example analysis that although the peak frequency of the incoming wave spectrum is near the natural frequency of the bridge, the response of the bridge is not amplified due to the effect that the peak frequency of wave exciting force is away from the natural frequency of the bridge.

An efficient method for the calculation of wave forces on a tension leg platform(TLP) is presented in this paper. It is based on the Morison's equation with two corrective terms. One is the reduction of the inertia forces on the vertical columns in order to include the wave diffraction effect particularly for small wave conditions. The other is the inclusion of the hydrodynamic forces acting at the bottoms of the columns. Numerical studies are carried out for a TLP in 1000 ft water with two different wave heading angles($0^{\circ}$ and $45^{\circ}$). The reponse amplitude operators(RAO's) for the TLP motions and top tether tension variations are obtained by the present method and the theoretically more accurate method based on the diffraction theory. A comparison has been made between the results obtained by two methods.

To contribute towards more accurate estimation of the virtual inertia coefficient for the horizontal vibration of ships, three dimensional correction factor $J_H$ for the added mass of finitely long elliptic prismatic bars in horizontal vibration in a free surface of an ideal fluid are calculated. In the problem formulation Dr. T. Kumai's quasi-finite length concept[1,11,12] is employed. Now that, in Dr. Kumai's work[1] for the horizontal vibration the mathematical model was a circular cylinder, the principal aim of the authors' work is to investigate the influence of the beam-draft ratio B/T on $J_H$. The numerical results of this work are shown in Fig.3 graphically, from which we may recognize that the influence of B/T on $J_H$ is remarkable as much as that of the length-draft ratio L/T(refer to Fig.1 also). In Fig.3 the curves for B/T=2.00 are of those based on Dr. Kumai's result[1]. On the other hand, the experimental data obtained by Burril et al.[9] for the horizontal vibration of finitely long prismatic bars of various cross-section shapes are compared with the theoretical added mass coefficients defined by combination of the authors' $J_H$ from Fig.3 and two dimensional coefficients $C_H$ obtained by Lewis form approximation for the corresponding sections. They are in reasonable correspondence with each other as shown in Fig.2. Finally, considering that the longitudinal profile of full-form ship's hull is well resembled to that of an elliptic cylinder and that the influences of other factors such as the sectional area coefficient and the shape of section contour itself can be well merged in the two dimensional added mass coefficient, the authors recommend that the data given in Fig.3 may be successfully adopted for the three dimensional correction factor the added mass in the horizontal vibration of hull-form ships.

When a ship advancing in waves is subjected to impact forces or irregular forces, the motion analyses for ship are convenient for being calculated in the time domain. The added mass, wave damping coefficients, wave exciting forces and mean drift forces are calculated by 3-Dimensional panel method used the translating pulsating Green function in the frequency domain and the motion equations which are considered by the memory effect due to waves are numerically solved by using the Newmark-$\beta$ method in the time domain. The motion analyses are carried out for a Series 60($C_B=0.7$) moving in irregular waves. The items of calculation are 6-degree motions, accelerations at the fore and after position, numbers of deck wetness and numbers of exposure at ship-bottom, etc. Moreover, the thrust addition in waves is examined by considering the time mean drift forces in the motion equations of time domain.

The very large vessels like VLCC and container ship have been built recently and those vessels have smaller structural strength in comparison with the other convectional skips. As a result the fatigue destruction of upper deck occurs a frequently due to the springing phenomenon at the encountering frequencies. In this study, the hydrodynamic loads are calculated by three-dimensional source distribution method with the translating and pulsating Green function. A ship is longitudinally divided into 23 sections and the added mass, damping and hydrodynamic force of each section is calculated. focusing only on the vertical motion. Stiffness matrix is calculated by the Euler beam theory. The calculation is carried out for Esso Osaka.
