A Design of an Automotive Wheel Bearing Unit for Long Life (자동차 휠 베어링 유닛의 장수명 설계)

  • This paper presents a new design method of the 1 generation wheel bearing unit using a numerical optimization technique in order to increase bearing fatigue life. For calculating the fatigue life, a method of load analysis is studied on the automotive wheel bearing system. The design variables selected are ball size, initial contact angle, number of balls, pitch diameter, pre-load, and distance between ball centers. The method of feasible directions in ADS (Automated Design Synthesis) is utilized to automatically find the optimum design variables. To validate the design method, a computer program is developed and applied to a practical passenger car model. The optimum design results demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed design method showing that the system life of the optimally designed wheel bearing unit is enhanced in comparison with that of the initial ones within the given available design space.

  • 우리나라 전산업의 R & b 투자율을 보면 표5에서와 같이 1.01%로서 일본의 2.03% 미국의 2.88%에 비해 크게 부족한 실정이다. 또한 기계공업에서는 2.25%로서 상당히 높은 비율로 나타나고 있으나 역시 일본 및 미국에 비해 뒤떨어지고 있음을 볼 수 있는데 그러나 타업종과 달리 기계공업중 전기. 전자와 정밀기기업종이 중심이 되어 기업의 기술 개발투자를 선도하고 있으나 기술집약도가 높은 이 부문에서 선진국과 큰 격차를 나타내고 있음을 알 수 있다. 이와같이 우리나라 기계공업체도 최근에는 많은 기술개발투자를 하고 있으나 이에 비해 개발실적은 우리기술이 크게 낙후된 실정이어서 아직도 선진공업국수준 이하의 기계를 개발중에 있는 것으로 평가되고 있는데 즉, 선진국에서는 이미 5-10 년전에 개발 공급한 제품들을 개발하고 있어 한마디로 복사단계의 기술개발이라고 하겠다. 그리고 국내 베어링회사인 K사의 R & b 투자실적 및 계획을 '85 년도에 1.4%로 저조하였으나 '88 년에는 2.9%로 계획하고 있어 R & b 투자에 많은 관심을 가지고 있음을 알 수 있으나 다른 투자를 할 수 없는 실정인 것으로 나타나고 있어 베어링산업의 또하나의 문제로 지적하지 않을 수 없다.

Rotational Characteristics of High Precision Spindle Unit with Ball-Hydrostatic Bearing (볼-유정압 복합베어링을 갖는 고정밀 주축의 회전특성에 관한 연구)

  • The spindle unit is core parts in high precision machine tools. Diverse static and dynamic charateristics of spindle unit are needed for special purpose of machine tools. Specially, high damping ability may be very useful to high precision and high speed spindle unit. But commercial bearing system has very low damping value and high stiffness. In this paper, the combined bearing system with ball-hydrostatic bearing is suggested for high damping spindle unit. The suggested bearing system has 30% damping ability more than general ball bearing's. The average rotational accuracy of spindle with combined bearing in working speed is 24% better than with ball bearing. The unbalance rotating experiment in spindle show that rotating error with combined bearing is only half value of with ball bearing.

  • 시일은 상대 접촉운동하는 기계장치에서 밀봉유체의 누설을 막고, 이물질 및 수분의 침투를 방지하기 위하여 사용되는 기계요소로써 베어링에 사용되는 접촉식 고무시일은 작은 설치공간, 간편한 조립방법, 저렴한 가격 등의 장점을 갖고 있다. 최근 기계공업 발전에 따라 기계 장치에 요구되고 있는 기동 및 운전조건이 고속, 고압력, 고온 및 극저온 등 가혹해져 감에 따라 정밀도를 유지$\cdot$향상시키면서 원활한 밀봉기능을 수행하는 시일 개발에 대한 중요성이 크게 부각되고 있다. 볼 타입 밀봉 베어링의 윤활제로는 그리이스가 가장 많이 사용되고 있고, 시일 재질로는 고무계통인 러리 사용되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 시일성능이 비교적 우수한 축방향 접촉식 고무 시일의 접촉력에 관한 이론적 및 실험적 연구를 하고 각각을 비교 검토하였다.

  • This paper shows the failure(wear) phenomena of automotive transmission bearings and investigate their characteristics. It was found that the wear mechanism was mainly abrasive wear by the presence of particles in the gear box and the balls was weared more severely than the other tribological contacting parts. The wear of balls alter the bearing contact angle and load ratings, and finally it cause the bearing failure. With close examination of the failed bearing, various countermeasures could be suggested.

  • A rotordynamic analysis is performed for a turbopump of 7 ton class liquid rocket engine considering bearing housing structural flexibility. Stiffness and damping characteristics of ball bearings and pump noncontact seals are reflected in a rotordynamic model. A dynamic model of bearing housing with lumped mass and stiffness is also applied to the rotordynamic analysis. Rotor critical speed and onset speed of instability are predicted from synchronous rotor mass unbalance response and complex eigenvalue analyses. The bearing housing structural flexibility effect on rotordynamic characteristics is investigated for both of bearing loaded and unloaded conditions respectively. From the numerical analysis, it is found that the effect of the housing structural flexibility significantly reduces the rotor critical speed and onset speed of instability.

  • It is known that ball bearings mounted in housing or on shaft are playing a key role to keep it running smoothly. The roundness of a housing bore on which bearing outer ring is mounted with interference has directly affected the running accuracy of bearing. The running accuracy of bearing, therefore, can extend the significant influence to the rotating machinery as well. In this paper, bearing's vibration and fatigue life considering raceway roundness of ball bearing before and after mounted in housing bore are theoretically estimated. To perform analysis, a simple three degrees of freedom model was proposed and then Newton-Raphson iterative method was introduced to be utilized in the analysis. The results show that the vibration magnitude of ball bearing fitted into housing unit is appeared considerably larger than the one of its pre-assembling. And theoretical $L_{10}$ life which ninety percent of the bearing population will endure decreased in about fifty percent.

  • The heat generation of angular contact ball bearings and deep groove ball bearings is studied with experiment and simulation. The temperature variation of inner, outer races and the temperature incresement distribution are measured by using thermocouples for the shaft speed, preload, viscosity of lubrucant and lubrication method. The measured values from experiment are used to estimate the heat generation rate. Oil-air lubrication using oils with different viscosities and grease lubrication are adopted.
