A Study on Place Identity in Seo-Rae Village - Focusing on Comparison of Sense of Place between Inhabitants and Visitors - (서래마을의 장소 정체성에 대한 연구 - 프랑스인 주민과 방문자의 인식 비교를 중심으로 -)

  • Places such as famous urban sights and foreign settlements have recently been created in Korea, which reflects the increase in social and cultural exchanges and the number of place-making and landscape-planning projects. Understanding place identity is required in environmental design and planning. This paper examined the components of the identity of place through comparison of perceptions of "placeness" between residents and visitors of Seo-Rae Village, Seoul, Korea. More than 40% of French nationals in Korea reside in the village, which many Koreans visit as an urban sightseeing place. Twenty-five French inhabitants and forty-one Korean visitors were surveyed. Insideness of Seo-Rae Village was formed by limited activities and needs of the residents, primarily children's education and food purchases. Residents mentioned that the physical environment, especially buildings, lacked theauthenticity of French style. The symbolic meaning of the French village influenced the visitors' activities. The authenticity of French style, however, did not affect the perception of visitors and outsideness of the place. Visitors' activities and cognitive meanings of the place were formed mainly by the commercial environment established by Korean investments. Commercialization of the place and related activities played an important role in establishing insideness of the place. The village shows the phenomenon of the reversal of insideness and outsideness. The "placeness" of Seo-Rae village has been shaped by visitors' tastes rather than the true experience of insideness. Mass identity formed by mass media using French characteristics influenced this phenomenon. Insideness formed by inhabitants appeared to be a pseudo-place, which was created by the French tastes of visitors and lacked French authenticity. Seo-Rae Villagerepresents a superficial cloak.

Effects of Additives on the Improvement of Frozen Dough Quality (첨가물이 냉동반죽의 품질향상에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was carried out to reduce the loss of frozen dough quality during frozen storage. Using response surface method, ascorbic acid 160.4 ppm, L-cysteine 63.1 ppm, and SSL 0.6% were found to be optimum, with xanthan gum 0.3% (formula A) and Ultra tex-3 5% (formula B) added as cryoprotectants. During frozen storage at $-20^{\circ}C$, control rapidly deteriorated after 4 weeks, while formulas A and B showed slight deterioration with immutable quality after 10 weeks.

  • 유 만근 교수 질문 : 음성학에 관하여 질문하고 싶습니다. 영국대학의 언어학 교육 과정에서 음성학이 차지하는 비중이 얼마나 큰 지 알고 싶습니다. 러우비니스 교수 응답 : 네 ,그 질문엔 한마디로 긍정적인 답변을 할 수 있읍니다. 음성학은 언어학에서 대단히 중요한 위치를 차지하며 런던대학뿐만이 아니라, 영국의 어느 대학에서나 음성학은 언어학에 초기부터 도입됩니다. 지금 하신 질문은 대단히 중요한 문제이므로 좀 더 자세히 설명하겠습니다. 런던의 동료와 마찬가지로 나는 음성학이 언어학의 일부일뿐 아니라 실로 필수적인 분야라고 봅니다. 런던 대학내에는 "음성학 및 언어학과" 라는 학과가 두 군데나 있는데 이는 "불어 및 이태리어과" 라는 식의 명칭과는 의미가 다릅니다. 이러한 명칭의 배후에는 역사적인 이유가 있읍니다. 음성학은 언어학의 분과중에서 가장i 먼저 발전하였으며, 영국에서는 음성학 교수직이 언어학 교수직보다 30년이나 먼저 생겼습니다. 바로 내이얼 저운스가 최초로 음성학 교수직을 얻어 30년이나 봉직했던 것입니다. 이러한 이유로 학과의 명칭이 아직도 그대로 존속하는 것입니다. 10년전에 한국에 왔던 헨더슨 교수 역시 음성학 교수입니다만, 그렇다고 그가 언어학에 관심이 없는 것은 아닙니다. 이제는 아무도 언어학의 전분야를 모두 전공할 수는 없습니다. 그래서 언어학에는 역사언어학, 응용언어학, 음성학 같은 분야별 전문가가 있기 마련입니다. 그러나, 통사론을 하지 않고 언어학을 할 수 없는 것과 마찬가지로 음성학을 하지 않고는 언어학을 할 수가 없습니다. 물론, 음성학안에서도 일반음성학이냐 개별어의 음성학이냐에 따라서 전문이 세분될 수 있읍니다마는, "음성학이 영국 대학의 언어학 교육 과정의 일부인가?" 라는 질문에 대한 답변은 자명할 것입니다. 안걸은 더 나아가서, 인간 언어의 역사를 잠시 생각해 보면 음성학이 언어학 연구에 없어서는 안될 필수적인 것을 알겁니다. 결국 언어학이란 인간 언어의 역사와 운용을 연구하는 것이고 인간의 언어란 수천년을 내려왔으나, 글자가 생기기 전까지는 순전히 음성언어, 즉 소리말로 존재했습니다. 한국어이건 영어이건, 라틴러이건 언어는 모두 발음기관으로 발음 할 수 있고 귀로 들을 수 있는 소리로 되어 있으며, 이미 죽은 말을 다를 때에도 결국 화석화한 소리말을 연구한다고 보는 것입니다. 즉 언어란 바로 소리말입니다. 사람은 글자를 배우기 앞서서 말을 배우며 우리같이 고등교육을 받은 사람도 쓰기와 읽기보다는 말하기와 듣기를 훨씬 많이 합니다. 이 같이 언어는 소리말로 운용되는데, 바로 소리 말을 연구하는 것이 음성학으므로 음성학은 언어학의 기본이요, 필수입니다. 음성학이 영국의 언어학에서 중요한 기본을 이루고 있다고 말 할 수 없다면 영국의 언어학은 그 만큼 빈약하게 될 것입니다. 한국에 음성학회가 있고 또 한글학회가 있지만, 그렇다고 하여 한국어 음성학이 한국어와는 다른 것이라거나, 한국어 음성학을 공부하지 않고 한국어를 연구할 수 있다는 뜻은 아닙니다. 의학에도 분야마다 전문의가 있듯이, 언어학도 이제 복잡하고 광범한 학문이 되었으므로 분야별로 전문가가 나오게 된 것뿐입니다. 따라서 "나는 통사론에 관심이 있으므로 소리말에는 관심이 없다"고 말하는 언어학자가 있다면, 이 것은 크게 잘못된 것입니다. 마찬가지로 "나는 소리에만 관심이 있으므로 통사론에는 관심이 없다"고 말하는 음성학자가 있다면, 이 또한 안되는 일입니다. 문의 구성과 어휘 요소와 아무 관련이 없는 말소리의 차이가 무슨 소용이 있으며, 통사 구조를 표현하고 저달하는 말소리를 연구하지 않고 어떻게 통사론을 연구할 수 있겠습니까? 다시 간추리면, 언어는 본질적으로 소리말이고, 언어의 특성과 사용 및 습득도 모두 소리말 형태로 나타납니다. 따라서, 영국의 대학은 음성학이 대단히 중요함을 인식하고, 언어학을 올바르게 다루는 세계의 여러 다른 대학과 마찬가지로 이에 따라 교육 과정을 편성하고 있습니다.

  • In spite of adverse circumstances, dairy food industry of Korea has been developed continuously with the every efforts of farmers, processors, researchers and government officers. Development and extension of new technology, such as safety assurance, improvement of nutritive ingredient, and keeping freshness are very important issues considering short shelf life of dairy products which are prevalent in Korea. In addition to, demands for advanced technology would be increased rapidly with the increase of consumption development of high quality products supply structure, decrease of production basis, and appearance of environmental problems. And demands for information about standard would be enlarged. Development of new products and technology for quality improvement should be evolved with the application of developed technology and cooperation of relative institutes in order to enlarge the consumption of milk and dairy products. In conclusion, efficient production on the basis of balance and development of dairy products which are safe and high quality are the most important subjects for the development of dairy industry in Korea.

A Gender-Sensitive Approach on Home Economics in Secondary Education (중등 가정과 교육의 성격에 관한 성인지적 접근)

  • In Korea home economics in the secondary school level was only taught to girls until 1995. So. home economics education only for girls was criticized to sexist education by the feminists. According to the 6th revision of curriculum. home economics has been taught to girls and boys. But some of curriculum developers raises another questions on home economics education. They argue that home economics is a subject which prepares students for the demand of their day-to-day lives. but they can manage their lives well without school learning. The purpose of this study is to explore the educational values of home economics in secondary education from the gender-sensitive approach. For this study, a literature survey on the nature of home economic education in secondary education and the content analysis on 12 secondary school textbooks of Home Economics were employed. The results are as follows : First, the educational values of home economics education should not be underestimated. The aims of home economics education is to help students grew into a independent person by managing their daily lives. The home is charged with fostering a side of our life which we might call Personal, private. intimate and nurturing. The management of the home needs good skills and attitudes. and many knowledges on the child rearing, family relation, marriage, love and sex, which can not be successfully acquired without school learning. And home economics education for boys and girls can help break down the barriers between the sexes because it can change the attitudes of students regarding the private sphere. which is traditionally where women have worked. Second. most of contents of Home Economics were composed of the women-oriented contents. There was a trend still describing that domestic labor mainly be carried out by mother. And the ideas that only the family consisting of two parents and their children is normal were founded. Finally directions of development of the Home Economics Education are suggested.

A Study on the Recognition of the Traditional Market Food (대학생들의 전통시장 먹거리 인식에 대한 주관성 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the Q - method, which is one of the qualitative analysis methods to approach deep and intrinsic meaning about the perception of college students about food in traditional market. Recently, local governments have been developing diverse tourism products aimed at young people in order to revitalize traditional markets. In this study, we classify the perception of food in traditional market by university students, And to suggest strategic implications by using it as basic data for establishing marketing strategy so that young people can visit in the futures. In order to analyze the perception of college students' subjective perception of traditional market food, Factor analysis was used to conduct an exploratory study. To do this, a Q-sort, Program, and Q factor analysis. The results were classified into three types. The first type (N = 21): Memories seeking type, the second type (N = 6): Local culture resource seeking type, the third type(N = 5). Each of these subjective perceptions can be used as a basis for future research. Through the establishment of marketing strategies for each of the three types of classifications, the direction of traditional markets is presented, and a variety of food items that are valuable as local tourism resources are accommodated by accepting university students' to contribute to the revitalization of traditional markets.

The Effects of Firms' Engagement in Fair Trade Practice on Consumers' Purchase Intention : An Experimental Study on Koreans' Attitude toward Foreign Coffee Brands (기업의 공정무역행위가 소비자들의 제품 구매의도에 미치는 영향 - 한국 소비자들의 커피 브랜드 태도에 관한 실험을 중심으로 -)

  • Consumers have been increasing their interests in firms' ethicality as well as in the features of the firms' products when they decide to purchase a certain product. Recently, fair trade is considered to be a type of ethical marketing in the business-to-consumer market. In this regard, the effects of fair trade-based marketing on firm performance have become the center of academic and managerial concerns. Despite this importance, few studies have investigated whether fair-trade is a source of competitive advantage or just a cost of doing business. The present research attempts to provide evidence of how fair trade-based marketing influences competitive advantage. Two experimental studies were conducted to explore consumers' purchase intention, which can be a proxy of competitive advantage, in a foreign product-consumption context. Drawing on the stakeholder theory, the first study was performed to examine the effects of fair trade marketing on consumers' purchase intention through a within-subjects design. In addition, building on the signal theory, the second study was executed to test the effects of a fair trade mark on consumers' purchase intention. The findings of the current research reveal that consumers prefer fair trade-based products to others and that when it comes to fair trade-certified products, consumers are more likely to purchase products with that certification than otherwise, even when those products are sold at higher costs than rival products. Interestingly, the results of this research present that there is a significant difference of consumers' purchase intention of a fair trade-based product between two different marketers. This implies that fair trade-based products should be differentially distributed and targeted at a certain type of consumers.

  • With a rapid growing of information networks and development achievements in mobile technology the spatial information is one of the most important resources for modern daily life. But the speed of spatial information technology trends are far from the real service demands as compared to the other relevant fields, and it would be natural that this unbalanced gap between the supply and demand of spatial information technology is being resulted from the absence of appropriate modeling concepts at some extents. In this paper there would be shown a new approaching model for the spatial information system based on agent concepts, which is able to perform some spatial tasks if properly implemented afterward. And to give resonable background of the new modeling framework here also some known critics for the commonly used modeling approaches when they applied to spatial information modeling followed by several alternative requirements for a good spatial modeling framework. And also there would be some considerations for applying this approach to the marine geographic information communities.

James Corner's Theory and Practice of Representation - Characteristics and Functions of Landscape Architectural Drawing - (제임스 코너의 재현 이론과 실천 - 조경 드로잉의 특성과 역할 -)

  • During the landscape design process, landscape architects produce various forms of drawings to visualize the future designed landscape. This work thoroughly examines the process of the utilization of James Corner's theory and practice of representation. Since the early 1990s, Corner has explored the characteristics and functions of landscape architectural drawing theoretically. Specifically, Corner argued that the use of visual representation makes it difficult to achieve the full embodiment of all of the multisensory characteristics of a landscape. Thus, he explored new drawing techniques that alternatively visualize the landscape and generate creative ideas(i.e., imagination of drawing), rather than a realistic illustration of not-yet-actualized landscapes(i.e., instrumentality of drawing). Corner's theory has evolved throughout the mid and late-1990s as applied to landscape practice. Corner embraced ecology and implemented the theory and practice of Landscape Urbanism, thereby once again emphasizing the instrumentality of drawing. Whereas the early theory mainly explored a perspective view using collage and montage, Corner later began to stress the importance of the instrumentality again. For example, Corner employed a mapping technique based on the instrumental map and that simultaneously creatively transforms it. Corner's theory and practice of representation fully explored the identity of landscape architectural drawings and reflected the interaction between theory and practice. Thus, his design and theoretical works continue to have significant influence on present landscape practice and theory.
