Trends in Predicting Thermoforming-Induced Deformation of Thermoplastic Composites: A Review (열가소성 복합재의 열성형 변형 예측 연구 동향)

  • This paper presents research trends in predicting the deformation of carbon fiber reinforced thermoplastic (CFRTP) composites during thermoforming. Various thermoforming variables that must be considered during the CFRTP thermoforming stages are investigated, and factors influencing process-induced deformation are analyzed. Key material behavior models, such as crystallinity and viscoelastic, which are important for predicting thermoforming deformation, are also examined. Additionally, trends in predicting CFRTP thermoforming deformation using finite element analysis with material behavior models and machine learning techniques are analyzed. In summary, more precise prediction techniques for thermoforming deformation can be developed by associating them with material behavior models and considering thermoforming variables.

Manufacturing Processes of Cylindrical Composite Lattice Structures using Filament Winding Method (필라멘트 와인딩 공법을 이용한 원통형 복합재 격자구조체 제작 공정)

  • In this paper, manufacturing processes of cylindrical composite lattice structures using filament winding method was described. Cylindrical composite lattice structures were manufactured in accordance with four major steps. Silicon mold of lattice shape was installed on mandrel and then continuous fiber was wound on silicon mold. After winding process, in order to ensure the same thickness for all regions, compression process was done for its intersection parts. Finally, the composite lattice structure was demoulded after curing in oven. It was found that the manufactured cylindrical composites lattice structure had 2.4% of dimensional error compared to the design requirements.

  • This study is performed to examine the removal efficiency of organic materials,$NH_4-N$ and P in Swine-Wastewater Treatment using Hybrid-process. It named SBR process, Hybrid-process as RunI(SBR), and Run II(Struvite Tank-SBR), and compared the removal efficiency of each Run. The removal efficiency of the organic materials in each Run is like this; In Run I, TS, VS and COD was 43%, 39%, and 70%, respectively. And in Run II, TS VS, and COD was 52%, 52%, and 82%, respectively. It shows that the removal efficiency of Run II using Strutive Tank is higher. And as for the removal efficiency of $NH_4-N$ and T-P in each Run, Run II using Strutive Tank was 90% and 57%, higher than 56% and 49% of RunI. Especially for $NH_4-N$, Run II showed much higher efficiency, and this proved that Strutive Tank was very efficient process of all for the removal of N and P. As a result of this study, Hybrid-process that combines Strutive Tank and SBR is proved to be a very good process in Swine Wastewater Treatment.

A Study on the Development of Integrated Folding Composite Wing Using Optimal Design and Multiple Processes (최적설계 및 다중공정을 적용한 일체형 접이식 복합재료 날개 개발 연구)

  • This research was carried out to develop an integrated folding wing made from carbon composite materials. Design requirements were reviewed and composite wing sizing was conducted using design optimization with commercial software. Three composite manufacturing processes including hot-press, pultrusion, and autoclave were evaluated and the most suitable processes for the integrated wing fabrication were selected, with consideration given to performance and cost. The determined manufacturing process was verified by two design development tests for selecting the design concept. Stiffness and strength of the composite wing were estimated through structural analyses. The test loads were calculated and static tests about design limit load and design ultimate load were performed using both wings. As a result, the evaluation criterions of the tests were satisfied and structural safety was verified through the series of structural analyses and testing.

  • Liquid Composite Molding (LCM), an Out of Autoclave (OoA) composite manufacturing process, has big advantages when making large and complex structures of airplanes. Since the importance of LCM process is increasing, FAA has suggested recommended guidance and criteria for the development of material and process specifications for LCM materials and process. The importance of LCM process is also raised by domestic composite material suppliers and OEM. This study suggested structures of material specifications and process specification of LCM materials. Material qualification method for LCM process and material was also developed in this study.

  • In order to design light weight and high efficient electromagnetic wave absorbing materials, hollow magnetic particles have been introduced in this study. The electroless plating method has been utilized to coat Ni and Fe on the substrates of synthesized polystyrene particles of submicron size. Removing polystyrene particles by heat treatment resulted in hollow structures. Observation by SEM, TEM and EDS confirmed the surface morphology and coating thickness of Ni and Fe. Polymeric composites containing hollow particles were tested in order to compare the electromagnetic properties between Ni coated and Fe costed particles. The composite of 30 wt% Fe hollow particles showed the higher complex permeability than Ni hollow particles or the conventional barium ferrite particles.

  • As the autoclave process progresses in a given cure cycle, residual stress in the composite product is induced by cure shrinkage of the resin. As a result, It generates the thermal deformation such as spring-in and warpage, and the inaccuracy of the final product increases. It is important to predict thermal deformation in aerospace parts which require precise fabrication. The research has been done on predicting and grasping curing process of composite material. In this study, the cure mechanism of composite materials according to the process is predicted through finite element analysis, and the effect of cure shrinkage on thermal deformation generated by the process is analyzed.

  • 섬유의 후가공공정은 그 목적에 따라 유연가공, 발수가공, 방추가공 등 여러 가지로 분류할 수 있고 실리콘은 이러한 공정에서 유용하게 사용되고 있다. 최근에는 이러한 물성을 복합적으로 갖는 다기능형 섬유의 요구가 커지고 있어 복합가공에 적당한 가공제가 필요하게 되었다. 본 연구에서는 섬유에 발수성, 유연성, 방추성, 내구성을 부여하기 위한 방법으로 불소계발수제와 상용성이 우수한 반응형 실리콘을 선정하고 이를 불소계발수제, 실란가교제등과 혼합(formulation)하여 면섬유에 적용하여 원하는 물성을 얻기 위한 최상의 가공조건을 개발하고자 한다.   • 본 연구는 공정제어를 위한 복합형 퍼지-PID 제어기의 개발에 관한 것이다. 제안된 복합형 퍼지-PID제어기는 퍼지 규칙을 기반으로 한 이득 결정부분({{{{ { K}_{p } { K}_{d } }}}})과 고정이득({{{{ { K}_{i } }}}})을 합친 제어기이다. 모의 실험 결과 제안된 제어기는 고정된 파라메터를 갖는 전통 PID 제어기에 비해 더욱 양호한 제어성능을 나타내었다.

  • The concentration process of 2-ethyl hexanol used for the intermediate material in the production of plasticizer is examined for the energy conservation of energy-efficient distillation system instead of the conventional two column system through numerical simulation. Some 41 % of energy conservation is expected from the proposed system, and its conservation principle is explained with column profiles. In addition, not only the operating cost but also investment cost can be reduced for the additional benefit of the column application when the thermally coupled distillation is implemented.
