Pretreatment of curcumin protects hippocampal neurons against excitotoxin-induced cell death (Curcumin의 전처리는 excitotoxin에 의한 세포사멸로부터 해마신경세포를 보호)

  • Curcumin is a natural phenolic yellow curry spice, derived from the tumeric, which has been used for the treatment of diseases associated with oxidative stress and inflammation. Curcumin is known to have both anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory properties. These properties can be beneficial to protect the brain from the neurodegenerative diseases. We now report the neuroprotective effects of curcumin pretreatment in primary hippocampal neurons to glutamate-induced excitotoxicity. Pretreatment of embryonic mouse hippocampal cell cultures with low does of curcumin protected neurons against glutamate-induced death, however, this neuroprotection was not correlated with the modulation of oxidative stress. Interestingly, high dose of curcumin showed the cytotoxicity in primary cultured hippocampal neurons. Immunoblot analyses showed that levels of stress response. protein HSP70 were significantly elevated in neurons exposed to low dose of curcumin, whereas levels of cleaved PARP were increased in neurons exposed to high dose of curcumin. These findings show that curcumin can modulate neuronal responses to glutamate, and suggest possible use of curcumin and related compounds in the prevention and/or treatment of neurodegenerative disorders.

A Case Study of Therapeutic Song Making to Enhance the Self-identity of Adolescents in Residential Treatment Facility (시설보호청소년의 자아정체감 증진을 위한 치료적 노래만들기 사례)

  • This is a case study of therapeutic song making activities aimed at improving the self-identity of adolescents in residential treatment facility. The participants were three male teenagers (16 to 18 years of age). The song making intervention was conducted individually with the participants once a week over 13 weeks, and each session lasted 60 minutes. The participants took the lead in making songs by discussing on the self-image and his/her role in the relationship and using musical elements to reflect his/her perception. For analysis, an evaluation method was used to analyze the pre- and post-test results for each sub-domain of the self-identity scale, and changes in the verbal and musical responses during each session. Two of the participants demonstrated higher post-test results compared to their pre-test performance, and their highest post-test scores were for the subdomains of intimacy and initiative respectively. In terms of verbal and musical responses per session, all three participants improved their subjectivity through the self-exploration process, which contributed to the establishment of a more positive self-image. This study suggests that facility youth engaging in making creative songs can positively change their perception of their present and future selves and have a positive effect on their sense of identity.

Contents-based digital still-image protection using OCL (OCL을 이용한 콘텐츠 기반의 정지영상 보호 기법 연구)

  • This paper presents a new contents-based digital still image protection method which includes a copyright message. Since the existing method using gradient values used a pixel based $3{\times}3$ Sobel operator, it was sensitive to attacks and could not extract exact copyright message. Therefore, in this paper, we present a algorithm which uses block based OCL(Orientation Certainty Level) instead of pixel. The experimental results show that the proposed scheme not only has good image quality, but also is robust to JPEG lossy compression, filtering, sharpening, blurring and noise. Moreover, the proposed algorithm has good performance more than 10% in rotation attacks than the existing method.

Improvement of AgNW of Electrical Properties and Environmental Stability Using Plasma Treatment and Overlayer on AgNW (실버나노와이어 전극의 플라즈마 처리 및 보호막 형성을 통한 전기적 특성 및 안정성 향상 연구)

  • 광학적 전기적 특성이 우수한 Indium Tin Oxide (ITO)는 대표적인 투명전극으로 사용되어지고 있다. 하지만 Brittle한 성질로 인해서 플렉서블한 디바이스에 적용하기에는 어려움이 있다. 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위해 본 연구에서는 용액 공정으로 제조 단가가 비교적 저렴하며, 높은 투과도와 전기전도 특성을 가지는 투명전극으로 주목받고 있는 차세대 투명전극인 AgNW에 관한 연구를 수행하였다. AgNW는 나노와이어가 네트워크를 형성하고 있어 높은 전도성과 광 투과도를 가지지만 용액 제조시에 분산에 용이하기 위해서 흡습성의 고분자 물질로 둘러싸여 있기 때문에 환경 안정성이 좋지 않다는 단점이 있다. 또한 나노와이어 간의 높은 접촉저항으로 인해서 접촉저항을 감소시키기 위한 후처리 공정이 요구되어진다. 이를 해결하기 위해 본 연구에서는 AgNW 전극에 플라즈마 처리를 통해서 나노와이어간의 접촉저항을 감소시켜 전기적특성이 약 12% 향상됨을 확인하였다. 고온, 고습 장시간 안정성테스트 결과, 기존 AgNW 전극에 비해서 플라즈마 처리와 보호막을 형성한 AgNW는 저항증가율이 3배 이상 감소하여 환경안정성이 향상된 것을 확인하였다. 이는 흡습성 고분자 물질이 플라즈마 처리에 의해 제거되었고 보호막을 형성하여 산소와의 반응을 감소시켰기 때문으로 판단된다. 플라즈마 처리와 보호막을 형성한 AgNW 전극을 적용하여 투명히터, Polymer Dispersed Liquid Crystal(PDLC)등 다양한 디바이스에 적용한다면 기존의 AgNW 전극보다 높은 효율을 기대할 수 있을 것이라 예상된다.

  • The smart grid can create benefits such as the expansion of consumer choice and flexibility enhancement, adaption to future electric power industry change and the increasing use of renewable energy sources. Consumers can make a contribution to improve the overall effectiveness of system through active receptive response. They can enhance the energy consumption efficiency based on more information from service providers. The Smart Grid Promotion Act, which was enacted in April 2011, contains consumer protection provisions such as information collecting, sharing, and protection measures. On this reason, it is needed to expand promotion and education regarding the smart grid to improve the consumer awareness, and the schemes to enhance smart grid consumer acceptance should be established.

  • ESD(Electrostatic Discharge) 보호에 응용되는 소자는 ESD가 발생했을 때, 빠르게 턴-온되어 외부로부터 EOS(Electric OverStress)를 차단함으로서 집적회로 내부의 코어를 보호해 주어야 한다. 이러한 기능에 충실한 LVTSCR(Low-Voltage Silicon Controlled Rectifier)은 트리거링 전압을 기존의 SCR보다 낮추어 ESD에 대해 민감한 반응을 할 수 있도록 개선한 소자이다. 그러나 트리거링 전압을 낮추면서 래치업 전압 또한 낮아지는 특성이 trade-off 관계로 맞물려 있어, LVTSCR의 단점인 낮은 래치업 전압을 효과적으로 다루는 것이 큰 이슈가 되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 LVTSCR의 ESD 보호에 대한 응용시 발생 가능한 래치업을 차폐하는 회로적 방법을 제시하였다. 제시된 새로운 구조의 차폐회로는 LVTSCR에서 래치업이 발생했을 때, 천이 전류를 감지하여 래치업이 발생되는 소자에 대한 전원을 스스로 차폐시켜 래치업에 대한 안정성을 시뮬레이션으로 검증하였다.

Synthesis of Electroactive Polythiophene Derivatives and Its Application for Biointerface (I) (전기적 활성을 갖는 폴리티오펜 유도체들의 합성과 생체계면에의 응용 (I))

  • In this study, we synthesized novel thiophene derivatives by the protection of the carboxyl group of 3-thiophene acetic acid with differently substituted benzyl groups. While 3-thiophene acetic acid is not electro-polymerizable, the modified monomers can be easily electro-oxidized to form stable electroactive polymers. The protecting groups can be easily removed in the solid state and the desired reactive carboxyl group can be introduced on the polymer surface. SEM observations show that obtained polymer films show a very good film surface and homogeneous morphology on the Pt electrode. After introduction of macromonomer, FT-IR spectrum shows new absorption bands at 1650 and $1550 cm^{-1}$, which is consistent with the formation of an amide bond. Electroactivity measurements were examined by cyclic voltammogram(CV). These polymers showed the characteristic electrochemical behavior of poly(3-alkylthiophene)s with reversible redox transition in the range of 0.7-0.9 V.

  • Recently, personal information leakage incidents with increased usage of mobile services are increasing. Personal information leakage incidents can have a significant impact on an individual's mobile banking services. Accordingly, we examine relationships among individual's psychological characteristics, intention and behavior regarding compliance in an individual's perception on personal information leakage incidents in mobile banking contexts. In this study, for explaining our research model and understanding with personal psychology and behavior in mobile banking contexts, we adopted two theories, theory of interpersonal behavior and stimulus-response theory. We collected the 55 data using online surveyor and then analyzed structural equation model in order to find causal relationships among research variables. The results of this study should be useful to the mobile banking services companies in promoting service users to follow the information privacy policies.

  • This study examines antecedents of the intention of compliance with information security policies based on Ajzen's Theory of Planned Behavior. The study conducted the following: Verification of casual relations between role of management and protection motivation and the antecedents of planned behavior as parameters to determine the effect on the intention of compliance with information security policy, and comparative analysis between the research model and a competition model. The result of the study disclosed that, in the research model, attitude and subjective norm took an intermediary role on management beliefs, response efficacy, response cost, self-efficacy, and compliance intention, and perceived behavior control on management beliefs, self-efficacy and compliance intention.

  • The analysis of condensation and cleavage reaction was carried out at $30^{\circ}C$ and pH 7.0 with purified isocitrate lyase from Saccharomycopsis lipolytica ATCC 44601. The Km values for condensation reaction of glyoxylate and succinate were 0.06 and 0.21 mM, respectively. In the cleavage reaction, glyoxylate was a linear competitive inhibitor with a Ki of 0.22 mM and succinate was a linear noncompetitive inhibitor with a Ki of 0.82 mM. Therefore, these kinetic analyses showed that the enzyme functioned in a ordered reaction with glyoxylate binding before succinate in the condensation reaction. 3-Bromopyruvate(BrP) was found to be irreversibly inactivation showing saturation kinetics, the inactivation half-time was 0.15 min and $K_{BrP}$ was 0.032 mM, and substrate or reactant protected against the inactivation.
