Comparisons of the gait characteristics depended on amputation length of the Unilateral Trans-Tibial Prostheses (편측하퇴의지의 절단 길이에 따른 보행 특성 비교)

  • The aim of this study is to present the basic reference data of age and specific gait parameters for comparisons of the gait characteristics depended on amputation length of the Unilateral Trans-Tibial Prostheses. The basic gait parameters were extracted from 10 Adult, and 20 below knee(B/K) patients, 50 to 60 years of age using VICON 512 Motion Analyzer. The results were as follows; 1. The mean Cadence of the above knee(A/K) patients and below knee(B/K) patients were $87.77{\pm}8.64$ steps/min, to $99.84{\pm}11.14$ steps/min.(p<0.05) 2. The mean Walking Speed of the above knee(A/K) patients and below knee(B/K) patients were $0.84{\pm}0.15$ m/s, to $0.96{\pm}0.25$ m/s.(p>0.05) 3. The mean Stride Length of the above knee(A/K) patients and below knee(B/K) patients were $1.14{\pm}0.14\;m$, to $1.14{\pm}0.22m$.(p>0.05) 4. The mean maximal angles of joint on the hip flexion motion for different above knee(A/K) patients and below knee(B/K) patients were $34.75{\pm}10.18_{\circ}$, to $32.32{\pm}6.34_{\circ}$.(p>0.05) 5. The mean maximal angles of joint on the knee flexion motion for different above knee(A/K) patients and below knee(B/K) patients were $66.97{\pm}15.08_{\circ}$, to $52.65{\pm}9.21_{\circ}$. (p<0.05) 6. The mean maximal angles of joint on the ankle dorsi-flexion motion for different above knee(A/K) patients and below knee(B/K) patients were $14.41{\pm}4.82_{\circ}$, to $10.04{\pm}3.49_{\circ}$.(p>0.05) 7. The mean maximal angles of joint on the ankle plantar-flexion motion for different above knee(A/K) patients and below knee(B/K) patients were $5.77{\pm}3.17_{\circ}$, to $2.75{\pm}4.49_{\circ}$.(p>0.05)

A Case Study of Prosthetic Ambulation Training for Upper and Both Lower Extremity Amputated Patient (상지 및 하지절단 환자의 의지보행훈련 증례연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to announce the present condition, walking training, and adaptable training of a limb amputated patient. The study is a successful report of the limb amputated patient through the medical treatment of the physical therapy. A cause of the limb amputated patient, a truck driver, was that the patient was hit by a train when the driver alight from the truck. Then, the driver was surgical operated on left AK (Above Knee) amputation and left AE (Above Elbow) amputation by orthopedics at the Young Dong Severance Hospital on Dec.7, 1996. Two weeks after the operation (Dec., 22, 1996), the patient was trained at the Yonsei Medical Center Physical Therapy Hospital for the walking and temper adjust training. It was possible to do a flat surface walking and a slope surface walking without helping due to the patients optimistic personal character and motivation. However, the patient struggled to a dull surface walking and his weak endurance. the patient has several problems when the patient wears artificial legs and hands, fears on fall down, and mentally worries on noise when he walks. It is necessary to approach for this problems by many fields of the helpers, such as Rehabilitation medical doctor, physical therapist, occupational therpist, artificial limbs makers, psychologists, and etc. Therefore, in order for recovering from the amputated parts function after the surgical operation, more approved reports have to be for the amputated patients due to increasing traffic accidents, industrial disaster, cancer, diabetes, obstacles of the peripheral nervous system, and etc.

Development of a Lower Limb Magnet System Capable of Polarity Conversion (극성변환이 가능한 하지의지 자석락 시스템 개발)

  • The suspension device that connects the prosthetic leg and the residual limb allows lower limb amputees to wear prosthetic limbs, and is the most sensitive part when using prosthetic limbs as it is always in contact with the residual limb not only while walking but also in everyday life. In this paper, using the principles of attraction and repulsion of permanent magnets, we developed a magnetic lock suspension device that can fix the amputees and prosthetic legs of lower limb amputees by changing the polarity of the magnet. The operation method of the magnetic lock is that when neodymium magnets are placed on the left and right as NNSS based on a non-magnetic brass core, the magnetic force flows outward beyond the brass core using the adsorption member as a medium to generate bonding force. When rotated 90 degrees, the magnet moves to NSNS. The principle is that as the position moves, the magnetic force flows inward and cancels out.Based on this, we conducted a bonding test using tensile strength and a short-term comparative evaluation of the prosthesis with the shuttle lock suspension system, which was a comparison group, to verify reliability and evaluate satisfaction with the prototype. As a result, the tensile strength exceeding the appropriate bonding strength was confirmed, and the magnetic lock showed higher satisfaction than the shuttle lock. In the future, we plan to conduct long-term ADL clinical trials for commercialization and develop a product that can be distributed to actual amputees.
