The patient in this case, 38 years-old female was adimitted for 8 days(2001. 7. 16 ${\sim}$ 2001. 7. 23). Her chief complain was lumbago, shoulder pain, headache, palpitation, general body weakness, insomnia, whole body heating and dyspnea. we diagnosed this patient as hyperthyroidism with originated from yinhuhwawang(陰虛火旺) and bigihu(脾氣虛). we treated this hyperthroidism patient with herbal medicine(Chonglijagamtang-gamibang(淸離滋坎湯加味方), bojungikgitang-gamibang(補中益氣湯加味方)), Acupunture, Moxa, etc. after oriental treatment during 8 days, pain(shoulder pain, headache, lumbago, whole body pain) was decreased and the symptoms were all diminished. in the days to come, we need to study further study about the superiority of Oriental Medicine healing a hyperthyroidism patient.

Obiectives : Otitis media is the disease which indicates every inflammatory situation in the middle ear. This includes the inflammation in the ear canal and mastoid sinus. In this study, the effect of Sa-Am acupuncture Bi-Jung-Geouk(脾正格) and Bojoong-ikgi-tang(補中益氣湯) for three children patients with otitis media were evaluated. Methods : After treatment with the Sa-Am acupuncture Bi-Jung-Geouk(脾正格) and Bojoong-ikgi-tang(補中益氣湯) for 3~6 weeks, we evaluated the effect by the figure of otoscope and complaints of patients. Results : In three cases, the pus in the figure declined dramatically and symptoms of patients got better after 3~6 weeks treatment. Conclusions : The Sa-Am acupuncture Bi-Jung-Geouk(脾正格) and Bojoong-ikgi-tang(補中益氣湯) for otitis media was effective. It will be attempted to the patients with it.

Background : Bojungikgitang is a typical prescription that helps to replenish the spleen and stomach, and its effect proved positive on allergic rhinitis by experiment. But there is only a few clinical thesis on allergic rhinitis to which Bojungikgitang was administered. Objective : The prevalence of allergic rhinitis appear to be increasing. The experimental study on allergic rhinitis has occasionally been reported, but the clinical study on various cases on treatment of using herbal medicine is not many. The aim of this study was to investigate effect of Bojungikgitang-Gamibang on allergic rhinitis. Methods : The treatment effect was analyzed over fifty patients who visited and had treatment with Bojungikgitang-Gamibang on allergic rhinitis in the hospital of Sangji University from June, 2003 to September, 2005. Result : After we analyzed 50 cases of allergic rhinitis by administering Bojungikgitang-Gamibang, we concluded that the shorter duration of disease and high dosage were the main factors which improved the symptoms effectively. Conclusion : Bojungikgitang-Gamibang was the effective treatment of allergic rhinitis.

Hyperhidrosis is a condition characterized by excessive sweating. It can be generalized or focal. Generalized hyperhidrosis involves the entire body and is usually part of an underlying condition, most often an infectious, endocrine or neurologic disorder. Focal hyperhidrosis is idiopathic, occurring in otherwise healthy people. The condition carries a substantial psychological and social burden, since it interferes with daily activities. We treated two male patients who had hyperhidrosis on the head. In the point of Differentiation of Syndrom(辨證), these subjects were diagnosed as Bi-Wi-Gi-Her (Pi-Wei-Qi-Xu 脾胃氣虛) and was administered revised Bojungikgi-tang (reserved Buzhongyiqi-tang, 補中益氣湯加味方). All of two cases had anorexia, dyspepsia, fatigue. After treatment hyperhidosis and other symptoms improved.

Objectives : We aimed to investigate therapeutic effect of Bojungikgitang-gamibang(BI) and Mahwangshingungsan(MS) by observing changes in blood cells and the nasal mucosa of Sprague-Dawley(SD) rats with allergic rhinitis. Methods : Twenty-four SD rats were divided into three groups: normal, control, and sample group. Allergic rhinitis was induced in the control and sample group by intraperitoneal and intranasal sensitization with 0.1% and 0.4% Ovalbumin solution. Then BI was orally administered only to the sample group along with MS for 28days, while the rats in the control group was given normal saline. Results : BI and MS showed significantly decreased IgE level on the serum of the rat model, Bl and MS showed significantly decreased eosinophil level on the blood of the rat model. BI and MS inhibited the inflammatory reaction on the nasal mucosal tissue, according to nasal mucosal biopsy. Bl and MS had anti-allergic according to level, eosinophil level, nasal mucosal biopsy. BI and MS had no hepatoxicity, according to AST and ALT on the serum. Conclusion : According to the above results, it is considered that Bl and MS is helpful in treatment of allergic rhinitis.

Objective : Mast cells are a potent source of mediators that regulate inflammatory response in allergies and asthma. The author studied the effect of Bojungikgitanggamibang(BITB) on mast cell-mediated anaphylactic reaction. Method : When BITB was given as pre-treatment at concentrations ranging from 0.01 to 1 mg/ml, the histamine release from rat peritoneal mast cells induced by compound 48/80 was reduced in a dose-dependent manner. Result : BITB dose-dependently inhibited compound 48/80-induced systemic anaphylactic shock. BITB also inhibited passive cutaneous anaphylaxis activated by anti-dinitrophenyl IgE. In addition, BITB inhibited phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate and A23187-induced interleukin-6 secretion from human mast cell line HMC-1 cells. Conclusion : These results indicate that BITB may be actively anti-allergic.

This study was designed to investigate the effects of BojungIkkiTang-Gamybang freeze dried powder (BITG) on proliferauion, protective of cell death induced by chemicals such as paraquat, hydrogen peroxide etc and anti-oxidative effects in C6 glioma cells. In our results, BITC accelerated proliferation rates of C6 cells in vitro. In addition, protective effects on cell death induced by paraquat and hydrogen peroxide. And, BITC did not have effects on SOD and total glutathione activities, but decresed malone dialdehyde activity. In conclusion, these results suggest the possibility of BojungIkkiTang-Gamybang to protect brain cell or neuronal cell from damage induced by oxidative stress. And also suggest that related mechanisms are involved in malone dialdehyde activity.

This study was conducted to find out the effect of Bojungikgitanggamibang(BIT) on growth, learning and memory of rats. The effects of BIT on learning and memory performance were examined in normal or memory impaired mice by using water maze task. Memory was impaired by 192 saporin. Body weight and growth of bone and tail of sample group were not significant compared with those of control groups. Acquisition test of water maze revealed that acqusitive ability of sample group significantly improved on 4,5th day compared with control group, while retentive ability of sample group was not significant. ChAT cell numbers of medial septum of sample group was significant compared with control group, and so was those of CA1, CA2 parts of hippocampus. On ChAT cell numbers of hippocampus, in CA2 part. These results suggest that BIT has an improving effect on the impaired learning through the effects on memory registration and retrieval.

Objective : This study is to investigate the effect of Bojoongikki-tang on Acne patients Methods : We treated 3 acne patients diagnosed as the deficiency of Qi with Bojoongikki-tang(Buzhongyiqitang), comedon extraction by needle and stamp acupunctures. After treatments we compared the before and after photos, and estimated by Korean Acne Grading System(KAGS1-4). Results & Conclusions : After taking Bojoongikki-tang(Buzhongyiqi-tang) and extruding comedones by needle, the acne was improved. After stamp acupuncture, the acne scar was improved. This study shows that the acne can possibly be diagnosed as the deficiency of Qi. So further studies are needed continuously.

Objective: This study reports on traditional Korean medicine therapy used for pneumonia among elderly patients.Method: Two patients diagnosed with pneumonia were treated with herbal medicine and acupuncture, as well as cupping along the back. We checked chest X-rays, coughing and sputum on the visual analogue scale (VAS), and lab evaluations in order to evaluate the effectiveness of the treatment.Results: Following treatment with traditional Korean medicine therapy, VAS scores for coughing and sputum decreased and the chest X-rays and inflammation markers improved.Conclusion: Traditional Korean medicine therapy treatment appears to be effective for treating pneumonia in elderly patients.
