Series of basic experiments for current density calibration by user process and for density calibration using geophysical model borehole were made. We tried to find the sonde response characteristics for current calibration using water and aluminium field jig, and using the equation of half life of 137Cs source. The result of calibration test made in a geophysical model borehole built first in Korea shows a perfect linear calibration equation. By adopting this calibration equation we could estimate the limitation as well as possibility of current density calibration by user process.
In this paper, a high-speed calibration method for phased array antennas in the far-field is presented A max calibration, which is a simplification of the rotating-element electric-field vector (REV) method that calibrates each antenna element only through received power, and a method of grouping calibrations by sub-array unit rather than each antenna element were proposed. Using the Proximal Policy Optimization (PPO) algorithm, we found a partitioning optimized for the distribution of phased array antennas and calibrated it on a subarray basis. An adaptive max calibration method that allows faster calibration than the conventional method was proposed and verified through simulation. Not only is the gain of the phased array antenna higher while calibration is being made to the target, but the beam pattern is closer to the ideal beam pattern than the conventional method.

The natural frequency of a system is commonly used in evaluating the serviceability condition of a floor. However. the current equations recommended in many building codes do not consider the various material types of a slab system; thus. different results are observed. Likewise. the transformation of a slab section required to predict the natural frequency of a composite deck plate is complicated. due to the varying shapes of the deck plates. Therefore. a new and simplified method of transforming a composite slab into an equivalent concrete slab is proposed. he modified vibration prediction equation was proposed based on the current vibration prediction equation recommended by LRFD. Compared to other equations. it is the closest to those obtained from experiments. The modified equation provides about 14.3% more accurate results than that recommended by LRFD. Likewise. the applicability of the proposed equation to other types of composite deck plate floor system was validated.

Among deteriorations of concrete due to environmental exposure, carbonation problems of concrete structures have increased in urban and underground structures. But conventional carbonation-prediction equations that were proposed by foreign references, can not be applied directly to the prediction of carbonation for domestic concrete structures. The purpose of this study is to propose a prediction equation of carbonation depth by considering domestic exposure conditions of concrete structures. For the derivation of the equation, conventional carbonation-prediction equations are analyzed. Through considering the relationship between results of prediction equation and those of various domestic field survey data, the so-called correction factors for different domestic exposure condition of concrete structures are derived. Finally, a carbonation-prediction equation of concrete structures under domestic exposure conditions is proposed with consideration for concrete strength in core and correction factors.

Purpose: A cross-calibration equation is needed to compare bone mineral density measured by different dual X-ray absoptiometry systems. We performed this study to establish appropriate cross-calibration equations between two different dual X-ray absorptiometry systems. Materials and Methods: Bone mineral density of anterior-posterior lumbar spine (L2-4 level) and femoral neck were measured in 109 women ($55{\pm}11yr$) using two different dual X-ray absorptiometry systems (Lunar EXPERT-XL and Hologic QDR 4500-A). Bone mineral density values measured by two systems, including area, bone mass content, bone mineral density and percentile of young normals were compared and cross-calibration equations between two systems derived. Results: The bone mineral density values of 109 women measured by Lunar system were $0.958{\pm}0.17g/cm^2$ at L2-4 and $0.768{\pm}0.131g/cm^2$ at femur neck, which were significantly higher ($13{\pm}6%$ at L2-4 and $19{\pm}7%$ at femur neck, p<0.001) than those ($0.851{\pm}0.144 g/cm^2$ at L2-4 and $0.649{\pm}0.108 g/cm^2$ at femur neck) by Hologic system. Bone mineral content and percentile of young normals measured by Lunar system were also significantly higher than those by Hologic system (p<0.001), whereas there was no difference in area (p>0.05). There was a high correlation between bone mineral density values of L2-4 and femoral neck obtained with both dual X-ray absortiometry systems (r=0.96 and 0.95, respectively). Cross-calibration equations relating the bone mineral density were Lunar= 1.1287${\times}$Hologic -0.0027 for L2-4 and Lunar= 1.1556${\times}$Hologic+0.0182 for femoral neck. Conclusion: We obtained cross-calibration equations of bone mineral density between Lunar EXPERT-XL and Hologic QDR 4500-A. These equations can be useful in comparing bone mineral density obtained by different dual X-ray absorptiometry systems.

It is necessary to register precisely Digital Elevation Model (DEM) generated from SPOT -5 stereo images in order to monitor the topographic and environmental changes of important topographic features such as Mt. Baekdu. The SPOT-5 DEM is registered taking SRTM DEM as a reference DEM. If SPOT-5 DEM is transformed with single 3D rigid equation, it has many errors. Therefore, this study extracted uniformly ground control points over study area and estimated locally adapted transformation equation. The accuracy of proposed method was evaluated with comparison to scale-based and GCP-based transformation method.
Friction angle and cohesion of rock masses can be estimated from Hoek and Brown failure criterion and then plastic corrections can be applied using Mohr-Coulomb yield function. This study finds that this estimation procedure would not be appropriate for weak rock masses and for cases where low confining stress is expected to develop. A procedure is outlined in this paper for estimating plastic corrections directly from Hoek and Brown material model. Comparative study shows that direct procedure would simulate non-linear failure surface better than indirect procedure especially in the low confining stress regime.
As research on a controlled environment system based on crop growth environment sensing for sustainable production of horticultural crops and its industrial use has been important, research on how to properly utilize soil moisture sensors for outdoor cultivation is being actively conducted. This experiment was conducted to suggest the proper method of utilizing the TEROS 12, an FDR (frequency domain reflectometry) sensor, which is frequently used in industry and research fields, for each orchard soil in three regions in Korea. We collected soils from each orchard where fruit trees were grown, investigated the soil characteristics and soil water retention curve, and compared TEROS 12 sensor calibration equations to correlate the sensor output to the corresponding soil volumetric water content through linear and cubic regressions for each soil sample. The estimated value from the calibration equation provided by the manufacturer was also compared. The soil collected from all three orchards showed different soil characteristics and volumetric water content values by each soil water retention level across the soil samples. In addition, the cubic calibration equation for TEROS 12 sensor showed the highest coefficient of determination higher than 0.95, and the lowest RMSE for all soil samples. When estimating volumetric water contents from TEROS 12 sensor output using the calibration equation provided by the manufacturer, their calculated volumetric water contents were lower than the actual volumetric water contents, with the difference up to 0.09-0.17 m3·m-3 depending on the soil samples, indicating an appropriate calibration for each soil should be preceded before FDR sensor utilization. Also, there was a difference in the range of soil volumetric water content corresponding to the soil water retention levels across the soil samples, suggesting that the soil water retention information should be required to properly interpret the volumetric water content value of the soil. Moreover, soil with a high content of sand had a relatively narrow range of volumetric water contents for irrigation, thus reducing the accuracy of an FDR sensor measurement. In conclusion, analyzing soil water retention characteristics of the target soil and the soil-specific calibration would be necessary to properly quantify the soil water status and determine their adequate irrigation point using an FDR sensor.

We constructed a series of calibration models in the campus of Kangwon National University. A series of experiment for calibrating sonde response as well as casing effect in field measurement. Here we explained the process of construction of calibrating facility which consists of three model holes of different density and three model holes of different diameter. It was discussed the calibration equations obtained from its sonde response calibration test. A density correction chart for different separation of detector from hole wall was suggested, and verified the possibility of determining true density from measurements in cased hole.
The governing design point of shallow foundation is not its bearing capacity but its settlemen and N-value by the SPT is one of the key parameters for settlement estimation. However, if the N-value is more than 50/30, such as 50/10 or 50/20, the N-vlaues are not blow count of 30cm depth penetration. In these cases, the estimated settlements have big difference with the measured values because the applied maximum N value for the settlement estimation is 50. Therefore, in this study, the modified method for N-value estimation is suggested. The settlements by four methods, which are based on Elastic Theory with application of modified N-value, are compared with the Origina Plate Load Test data. The same comparision was carried out with another seven Empirical Methods. The result of this study showed that the error range of settlement is decreased from 260.4~2136.5% to 20.3~272.7%. Among four methods which are based on Elastic Theory, the original method by Elastic Theory is the most accurate with the application of modified N-value. Among Empirical Methods, Terzaghi-Peck's(1948, 1967) modified method 1 is the most accurate with the application of modified N-value. The differences between the original method by Elastic Theory and Terzaghi-Peck's(1948, 1967) modified method 1 are neglectable.
