An experimental research was carried out to investigate the effect of thc compressive strength of concrete on the stirrup effectiveness in shear behavior of concrete beams. For this purpose. total 24 beams of section dimension of $300{\times}600mm$ were tested: 4 specimens without web reinforcement and 20 specimens with web reinforcement in the form of vertical stirrups. Main variables were two levels(norma1 and high strength) of the compressive strength of concrete and six types of t h e shear rcinfor.cement ratios. Prior to experiment, for given sections and assumed material constants, the reference shear reinforcement ratio(${\rho}_vACI$) which leads to the flexure failure using the provisions of the ACI Building Code(AC1 318-95) was calculated. and the shear reinforcement ratios were relatively selected from the value of ${\rho}_vACI$. From test results, it was shown that thc safety factor of ACI eyuation for p1,ediction of shear strength was decreased with increasing the compressive strength of concrete in beams without stirrups. However. it was observed that as the amount of' stirrup is increased, the safety factor for high strength conci, ete beams with high stirrup ratio is ensured more than that for normal strength concrete beams. Therefore i t appears that the stirrup effectiveness of high strength concrete beams is greater than that of normal strength concrete beams.

The member deflection is one of the most important considerations for the serviceability evaluation of reinforced concrete structures, and the concept of the effective moment of inertia has been generally used for the estimation of beam deflections. The KCI design code adopted Branson's equation for the calculation of the effective moment of inertia, which was formulated based on the results of beam tests subjected to uniformly distributed loads. Therefore, it is worthwhile to check the applicability of the code approach on the estimation of the effective moment of inertia for the cases of beams under different loading conditions. In this study, an experimental investigation has been conducted on six beams, where primary variables were concrete compressive strengths and loading distances from supports. The test results were compared with various approaches proposed by Branson and others as well. The test results indicated that the effective moment of inertia was somewhat influenced by the moment distribution shape. Despite the different moment distribution shapes for specimens, however, the effective moment of inertia of all test beams were closely predicted by the existing methods considered in this study.

Using the recycled aggregate can reduces the landfill space, the demand for natural raw material for new construction. Some investigations have been carried out to study the shear behaviors of RC beams with recycled aggregates. But these have some limitation due to the use of low quality recycled aggregates and small-scale specimens in the laboratory. In this study, four full-scaled RC beams were tested to evaluate the effects of replacement level (0,30, 60, and 100%) of recycled fine aggregate on shear behavior of RC beams. The results showed that the beams with recycled fine aggregates show similar crack pattern and failure mode compared with the beam with natural aggregate. Also, the beams with recycled fine aggregates present the similar shear strength except the one with the replacement level of 100% recycled fine aggregates. Shear strength were compared with the provisions in current code (KCI2007) and the equation proposed by Zsutty. The KCI equations were conservative and subsequently can be used for the shear design of recycled aggregate concrete beam.

A model for the effective moment of inertia $I_{\epsilon}$ as expressed in Branson's equation, in which reduction of the flexural rigidity of RC beams due to cracking are aptly taken into accoun,t is presented. However, KCI Code isn`t considered tension stiffening as it is in debonding of reinforcing bar. Therefore, this equation need to set up suitable to our design Code. The experimental work consisted of casting and testing a total of 6 simply supported reinforced concrete beams and a total of 4 continuos reinforced concrete beams under two point concentrated loads. Main parameters are concrete strength, coverage, bond between concrete and reinforcing bars, are known as have an effect on deflection and tension stiffening. Every test beams had the same $250{\times}350$mm rectangular section, with a simply supported clear span of 4,400 mm and a continuos clear span of 6,500 mm. Comparison of the test results with values obtained using the KCI Code equation of the effective moment of inertia showed a noticeable difference.

For the efficient performance of steel and composite building structures subjected to strong earthquake, one of current research investigates the cyclic behavior of open-web composite beams. Both experimental test and nonlinear FEM analysis demonstrate their behavior so ductile that four T-sections around the corners of rectangular web-opening develop plastic hinges prior to potential brittle failure at the beam end, i.e. at the column face. This research proposes simplified equations for determining strength and initial stiffness of composite beams with a rectangular web-opening, and compares its results with those of experimental test and nonlinear FEM analysis.
Shear failure of reinforced concrete (RC) beams is serious problem due to sudden brittle failure and many experimental results proved that size effect in shear strength of RC beams is an important feature of reinforced concrete members. As the sizes of RC beams very large, experiments sometimes become very difficult so that empirical design formula or the experimental data on shear strength of RC beams could not be obtained. Then the numerical analyses for size effect on shear strength of RC beams become very important. In this study, finite-element technique of reinforced concrete is employed of shear analysis of RC beams without web reinforcement and the size effects in shear strength are numerically analyzed. The influencing factors to the size effect in the shear strength of RC beams are extensively analyzed and compared with those by major shear strength equations including several standard specifications.

Earthquake resistance of RC column-steel beam (RCS) joints with simplified details were studied. Simplified details are necessary for large columns to improve the productivity and constructability. To strengthen the beam-column joint, the effects of transverse beams, studs, and U-cross ties were used. Four 2/3 scale interior RCS connections were tested under cyclic lateral loading. The specimens generally exhibited good deformation capacity exceeding 4.0% story drift ratio after yielding of both beam and beam-column joint. Ultimately, the specimens failed by shear mechanism of the joint panel. The test strengths were compared with the predictions of existing design methods.
The precast concrete beam-column connectors for the high-rise office buildings were investigated experimentally in this study. The specimens of general precast beam-column connector which is used in a domestic site, specimen of DDC(dywidag ductile connectors) of Germany, and specimen of DDC with post-tensioning and modified DDC with post-tensioning were constructed and tested to verify the safety. The DDC with and without post-tensioning showed reliable joint strength and ductility but failed in critical inclined shear crackings at the column. The modified one showed better behaviors in tests because they did not show critical column crackings at failure. The use of prestressing did not helpful significantly to increase the strength and ductility of connectors but helpful only to develop self-centering behavior for stability.

Existing tube for concrete filled tubular structure is made through welding of four plates irrespective of tube thickness, so production performance is poor and special welding technique is needed to weld the internal diaphragm and through the diaphragm. Therefore, through manufacturing by cold forming development of beam to column connections that is no welding in position of stress concentration is needed. In this study the proposal of beam to column connections details and to making tube specimens by method of bending steel plates, we want to know the compositeeffect between internal anchor and concrete by processing on stress distribution and internal force evaluation of concrete filled tube beam to column connections with a variable of flange welding existence between column and beam, welding quantity between column and diaphragm, existence of concrete in tube, column with diaphragm and general column.
