한가위에는 휘영청 밝은 보름달을 바라보는 일만으로도 마음이 넉넉해진다. 큰 달덩이만큼 포근한 마력을 내뿜어 사람의 소원을 이루어 준다는 믿음을 주기 때문일 것이다. 또 미지의 세계에 대한 많은 상상력을 불러 일으킨다. 상상력에 동원된 궁금증을 과학적으로 풀어보자.

An initial attempt to investigate the forced fortnightly water-level modulations in major tidal rivers in South Korea is described. Simplified one-dimensional hydrodynamic numerical models were established to reproduce the fortnightly tides in the Keum River and the Nakdong River respectively. The models were also used to identify the approximate locations of the reversal of MLWS and MLWN in the Keum River and the Nakdong River. The basic features of this forced fortnightly waves are explained through scaling arguments proposed by LeBlond. The objective of this initial study is to investigate the tidal dynamics of the major tidal rivers in South Korea.

Monthly occurrence of the moon jellyfish (Scyphozoa: Ulmariidae: Aurelia aurita) was investigated in the southern coast of Korea in summer. The relationships not only between weight and length but also between length and food (rotifer and Artemia sp.) ingestion were also studied. Aurelia was monthly sampled 5 or 6 times at the coastal area between Jinhae and Geoje-do with a landing net (mouth: 30 cm, mesh size: 2 cm) at surface from June to August,2001. Aurelia aurita was dominated by 6-9 cm in June, 7-16 cm in July and 16 cm in August in bell diameter. The bell diameter was significantly related with weight (r=0.930, P<0.001). The ingestion rate was significantly different according to bell diameter and food density (ANOVA test: P<0.001).

지난 10월 20일 'ESCO산업 활성화 방안'이 발표됐다. 이제 ESCO 사업이 산업으로 가는 전환점을 맞이하게 된 것이다. 앞으로 펼쳐지게 될 ESCO 시장 확대 및 금융지원 강화, 업계 경쟁력 제고 등 2011년 ESCO 사업에는 밝은 보름달이 떴다. 내년부터 기존과는 달리 급격하게 변화하고 성장하게 될 ESCO 산업의 미래에 대해 권오정 과장을 통해 자세한 이야기를 들어보았다.
