  • Objective : The purpose of this study was to investigate the concurrent validity of the self- and proxy-report versions of the KIDSCREEN-10 quality of life questionnaire. Methods : A total of nine children and nine parents were selected to represent a cohort registered for a school-based wellness program. Two versions of the KIDSCREEN-10 questionnaire (self- and proxy reports) were administered to the children and their parents. The Rasch rating scale model was applied to determine the dimensionality and item difficulty of the two versions of the questionnaire. Moreover, the item-person matching map and Spearman's rho were compared to confirm the concurrent validity of the two versions. Results : All items, except four items (i.e., autonomy, home life, concentration/learning, and peers/social support), fit the Rasch rating scale model of the children's self-report version of the questionnaire. With regard to the parent's proxy-report version, two items misfit the model. While the items of the self- and proxy-report versions showed similar item difficulties, the parents had a tendency to be more severe in their ratings than the children. The correlation between the two versions was relatively low (Spearman's rho = .533, p > .05). The scatterplots between the two versions showed differences in the item difficulties of the physical and psychological well-being and self-perception items. Conclusion : These findings suggest that the three identified items should be taken into consideration when measuring children's health-related quality of life using the KIDSCREEN-10 questionnaire.

Review of Nurse Staffing and Residents Quality of Care and Quality of Life in Nursing Homes : Applying Castle & Engberg's Conceptual Framework (노인요양시설 간호인력이 입소노인 케어의 질 및 삶의 질에 미치는 영향에 대한 문헌고찰 : Castle과 Engberg의 개념적 기틀 활용)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to figure out the effect of nurse staffing in nursing home on the quality of care and quality of life of the residents, using Castle & Engberg's conceptual framework. Methods: A total of 31 studies published between 1996 and 2021 were selected from 6 databases, searched for keyword such as "Nurse staffing", "Nursing staff", "Outcome", "Quality of care", "Quality of life", "residents outcomes", "nursing home", "long-term care". By using Castle & Engberg's conceptual framework, systematic review was conducted. Results: More time provided by nursing staff, high level of licensed nurse staffing, good relationship between nursing staff and residents, and generous supervision system have a positive effect on resident outcomes. Conclusion: Establishing regulatory strategies of having mandatory Registered Nurse is needed because nurse staffing in nursing homes was related to resident outcomes. In addition, it is necessary to conduct further research about quality of life beyond quality of care for residents.

  • Penetrating injury and retained foreign substances in human body are the main causes of visiting to the emergency room. In hand, foreign substances are caused by trauma. The most common plant pieces, the glass fragments and metal fragments should occur in the order. Especially, it's hard to find fragments of plants and plastic materials because of their radiolucency. And although these fragments are removed, it's difficult to differentiated clearly whether residual foreign bodies are in human hand or not. This study reports the authors' experience in the treatment of a patient from whom he removed a residual tree thorn in the operating room. The thorn was found 4 weeks after the trauma by ultrasonography and then the patients' symptoms were improved.

  • Iatrogenic foreign bodies are a challenging complication to both the interventional radiologist and patient, resulting in impaired quality of life and substantial financial cost. The case report describes a successful percutaneous transhepatic removal of an intra-abdominal foreign body. A 72-year-old man underwent surgery for placement of a retrievable covered stent for refractory bile leakage after left hemihepatectomy. Three days after placement, stent folding and migration into a chronic biloma cavity occurred via the bile leakage site. By using a balloon catheter technique, the folded stent could be straightened and repositioned into the bile duct to minimize stent-strut injury during retrieval. The interventional approach could be a valid treatment option for intra-abdominal foreign bodies, as well as intravascular foreign bodies. A thorough understanding of devices and techniques can provide the interventional radiologist with valuable information regarding procedural planning and the management of iatrogenic foreign bodies.
