The reinforcement effect of micro-bolt for a bonded scarf joint was investigated. Three scarf ratios of 1/10, 1/20, and 1/30 were considered to examine the effect of scarf patch configuration on joint strength. To maintain the same density of micro-bolt, 16, 32, and 48 bolts were installed in the scarf joint specimens with scarf ratios of 1/10, 1/20, and 1/30, respectively. Tests were also carried out on the joints that are bonded with only adhesive and that are fastened with only micro-bolts to obtain reference values. The average failure loads of the adhesive joints with scarf ratios of 1/10, 1/20, and 1/30 were 29.7, 39.6, and 44.8 kN, respectively. In case of micro-bolt reinforcement, the failure loads at the same scarf ratios were 28.4, 37.2, and 40.1 kN, respectively, which corresponds to 96, 94, and 90% of the pure adhesive joint failure loads. In the case of using only micro-bolts, the failure loads were only 13-25% of the average failure loads of pure adhesive joints. Fatigue test was also conducted for the joints with scarf ratio of 1/10. The results show that the fatigue strength of hybrid joints using both adhesive and microbolts together slightly increased compared to the fatigue strength of adhesive joint, but the rate of increase was small to 2-3%. Through this study, it was confirmed that the reinforcement effect of micro-bolt is negligible in the scarf joints where shear stress is dominating the failure, unlike in the structure where peel stress is dominant.
Ship structures are basically an assembly of plate elements and estimation load-carrying capacity or the ultimate strength is one of the most important criterion for estimated safety assessment and rational design on the ship structure. Also, Structural elements making up ship plated structures do not work separately against external load. One of the critical collapse events of a ship structure is the occurrence of overall buckling and plastic collapse of deck or bottom structure subjected to longitudinal bending. So, the deck and the bottom plates are reinforced by a number af longitudinal stiffeners to increase their strength and load-carrying capacity. For a rational design avoiding such a sudden collapse, it is very important to know the buckling and plastic behaviour or collapse pattern of the stiffened plate under axial compression. In this present study, to investigate effect af modeling range, the finite element method are used and their results are compared varying the analysis ranges. When making the FEA model, six types of structural modeling are adopted varying the cross section of stiffener. In the present paper, a series of FEM elastoplastic large deflection analyses is performed on a stiffened plate with fiat-bar, angle-bar and tee-bar stiffeners. When the applied axial loading, the influences of cross-sectional geometries on collapse behaviour are discussed. The purpose of the present study is examined to numerically calculate the characteristics of buckling and ultimate strength behavior according to the analysis method of ship's stiffened plate subject to axial loading.

This study focused on the development of surface deformations of GFRP rebars with a better bond characteristic for reinforcing concrete, and simultaneously, of GFRP rebars with more simple and economic production process. This research paper describes a development and bond performance of GFRP rebar with molded deformations, which is composed of polymer resin and milled glass fiber. To determine proper mix ration of milled fibers, material test of hardened epoxy and pullout tests of GFRP rebar with various mix ratio were conducted. The test results indicate that the new strategy of using a mixture of epoxy resin and milled fiber could be successfully applied to a surface structure of GFRP rebar to enhance bond with concrete. The bearing resistance of the ribs was further enhanced by the milled fibers at mechanical and environmental loading state.

In this paper, we conducted experimental investigation on the field applicability through the verification of reinforcement effect of the steel pipe reinforcement grouting using high strength steel pipe. SGT275 (formerly known as STK400) steel pipe is generally applied to the traditional steel pipe reinforcement grouting method. However, the analysis of tunnel collapse cases applying the steel pipe reinforcement grouting shows that there are cases where the excessive bending and breakage of steel pipe occur. One of the reasons causing these collapses is the lack of steel pipe stiffness responding to the loosening load of tunnels caused by excavation. The strength of steel pipe has increased due to the recent development of high strength steel pipe (SGT550). However, since research on the reinforcement method considering strength increase is insufficient, there is a need for research on this. Therefore, in this study, we conducted experiments on the tensile and bending strength based on various conditions between high strength steel pipe, and carried out basic research on effective field application depending on the strength difference of steel pipe through the conventional design method. In particular, we verified the reinforcement effect of high strength steel pipe through the measurement results of deformed shape and stress of steel pipe arising from excavation after constructing high strength steel pipe and general steel pipe at actual sites. The research results show that high strength steel pipe has excellent bending strength and the reinforcement effect of reinforced grouting. Further, it is expected that high strength steel pipe will have an arching effect thanks to strength increase.

In this paper, a method to overcome inefficiency of the finite element method in the calculation of compressive strength of one-sided stiffened plates, is proposed. In this method the collapse modes of stiffened plates are assumed as follows. a) Overall buckling $\rightarrow$ Overall collapse b) Local buckling $\rightarrow$ Overall collapse c) Local buckling $\rightarrow$ Local collapse In each collapse mode, shape of deflection is assumed, and then elastic large deformation analysis based on the Rayleigh-Ritz method is carried out. One-sided stiffening effect is considered by taking into account of the moment due to eccentricity. Plastic analysis by assuming hinge lines is also carried out. The ultimate strength of a stiffened plate is obtained as the point of intersection of the elastic analysis curve and the plastic one. From this study, it is concluded that the angles between the plastic hinge lines in plastic collapse mode are determined as the ones which give the minimum collapse load, and these angles are different from the ones assumed in the previous studies. Minimum stiffness ratios can also be calculated. Calculated results according to this method show good agreements with the results by the finite element method.
The aim of this study is to analyze the mechanical characteristics and settlement feature of the composite ground with structural form changes. The laboratory model test is a soil tanker to be contained with clay and grid form improved soil, which is conducted in total 9 case with the uniaxial compressive strength of improved soil and replacement ratio of improved soil. The numerical analysis for variation of stress distribution ratio with depth was performed in the same conditions which are the laboratory model test. As a result, stress distribution ratios in mid and high replacement ratio are increasing and settlement is decreasing, except low replacement ratio. This study is presented for form effect ratio and settlement reduction factor with change of structure form, which is able to be helpful in further research and reference for change of structural forms at composite ground.

Generally, modeling procedure of cross section of composite rotor blade is complicated and time-consuming, because it is made up of various stiffeners and multiple layers of composite materials. For efficient modeling of cross section of composite rotor blade, a modeling program so called KSec2D, which provides a user friendly GUI, is developed by using a 2D modeling algorithm based on set operation. By the developed program KSec2D, a modeling of complicated cross section of rotor blade is carried out. Through the demonstration, the usefulness of developed program in modeling procedure of cross section of composite rotor blade is verified.

The horizontally curved bridges have been used to connect bridges and roads. Until 1960s, they had been constructed with straight girders, called 'kinked girder bridges', which requires much cost and time-consuming construction of substructure. In case of using curved girders, practiced later, they would have many advantages such as reduction in the total construction cost and time, and ability to make aesthetic bridges. In designing plate girder bridges, it is necessary to determine the spacings between vertical stiffeners and the allowable shear stresses based on shear buckling capacity because it plays a key role in preventing the premature local shear buckling. Compared with the straight web, the critical shear buckling stresses of curved web panels vary with both aspect ratio and curvature coefficient. For designing curved web panels, a simplified formula and shear buckling coefficients were proposed by parametric models with F.E.M in this study.

Stay cable is easily exposed to vibration induced rainy wind effects. There are some problems for not only unexpected vibration but also well-known vibration. An outbreak of displacement by the said effects brings damages such as over-tension of cables and barriers, fatigue of anchorages and dampers, and additional shear force variation of stiffening girders. This study suggests analytic methodology for dynamic tension variation of cables and shear force variation of stiffening girders. Additionally this study announces with dynamic problems for cable stayed bridge briefly. To realize this subject, we divide restoring force into chord component and normal component and then make up the differential equations which can satisfy physical phenomenon for each component. Finally we apply adequate functions such as sinusoidal and parabola in order to reduce these differential equations. Therefore we can meet with good results through a series of above process. As a remarkable result, CIP recommendations (2002) give inadequate solution with over 10% error. However it gives very good solution if parts of our study are reflected at the said recommendations. The fact means that CIP recommendations (2002) well-known as international standard of stay cables are not even concern about this subject yet. For verification of this study, F.E. analysis using E.C.C. with external forces was fulfilled, and the accuracy and conciseness of this study were shown.
