The purpose of this study is to provide analytical method to reasonably predict the overall behavior up to destruction of reinforced concrete panel specimens using high-strength reinforcing bar. A total of 12 specimens of reinforced concrete panels with a wall thickness one-third the size of the actual nuclear containment structures under various loading conditions and design parameters were selected and the analysis was performed using a non-linear finite element analysis program (RCAHEST) was developed by the authors. The mean and coefficient of variation for shear strength at cracking point and maximum shear strength from the experiment and analysis results was predicted 1.03 and 12%, 0.97 and 9%, respectively. For the shear strain at the maximum shear strength from the experiment and analysis results was predicted 0.96 and 30%, respectively. Based on the results, the analysis program that was applied newly modified constitutive equation in this study is judged as having a relatively high reliability for the analysis results.

The dynamic behavior of piles becomes very complex due to soil-pile dynamic interaction, soil non-linearity, resonance phenomena of soil-pile system and so on. Therefore, the proper numerical simulation of the pile behavior needs much effort and calculation time. In this research, a new modeling method, which can be applied to the conventional finite difference analysis program FLAC 3D, was developed to reduce the calculation time. The soil domain in this method is divided into a near-field region and a far-field region, which is not influenced by the soil-pile dynamic interaction. Then, the ground motion of the far-field is applied to the boundaries of the near-field instead of modeling the far-field region as finite meshes. In addition, the soil non-linearity behavior is modeled by using the hysteretic damping model, which determines the soil tangent modulus as a function of shear strain and the interface element was applied to simulate the separation and slip between the soil and pile. The proposed method reduced the calculation time by as much as one third compared with a usual modeling method and maintained the accuracy of the calculated results. The calculated results by the proposed method showed a good agreement with the prototype pile behavior, which was obtained by applying a similitude law to the 1-g shaking table test results.

In this study, noncomposite and composite eco-arch structures with I-beams and precast concrete(PC) decks were investigated. Four finite-element models(a steel-girder model, a steel-girder-and-several-PC-panels model, a three-steel-girder model, and a three-steel-girder-and-several-PC-panels model) using a general finite-element program, ABAQUS, were reviewed to predict the strength of the noncomposite and composite arch structures. Based on the results of the finite- element analysis, the behaviors of the four models were investigated, and deflection and strain gauges for the experimental specimen consisting of three steel girders and several PC panels were set up to obtain the ultimate strength. The ultimate strength of the specimen was estimated to be 1,961kN. The ultimate strength was much larger than the 1,380-kN load calculated using AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications(2007). The noncomposite and composite arch bridges were found to have enough strength for safety.
This study is devoted to the problems of thermal and shrinkage stresses in order to avoid cracking at early ages. The early-age damage induced by volume change has great influence on the long-term structural performance of the concrete structures such as its durability and serviceability To solve this complex problem, the computer programs for analysis of thermal and shrinkage stresses were developed. In these procedures, numerous material models are needed and the realistic numerical models have been developed and validated by comparison with relevant experimental results in order to solve practical problems. A framework has been established for formulation of material models and analysis with 3-D finite element method. After the analysis of the temperature, moisture and degree of hydration field in hardening concrete structure, the stress development is determined by incremental structural formulation derived from the principle of virtual work. In this study, the stress development is related to thermal and shrinkage deformation, and resulting stress relaxation due to the effect of early-age creep. From the experimental and numerical results it is found that the early-age creep p)ays important role in evaluating the accurate stress state. The developed analysis program can be efficiently utilized as a useful tool to evaluate the thermal and shrinkage stresses and to find measures for avoiding detrimental cracking of concrete structures at early ages.

In this study, finite element analysis was carried out through the finite element analysis program (ANSYS) to investigate the fire resistance of composite columns in fire. Transient heat transfer analysis and static structural analysis were performed according to ASTM E 119 heating curve and axial force ratio 0.7, 0.6, 0.5 by applying stress-strain curves according to temperature, and loading heating experiments were carried out under the same conditions. In addition, the nominal compressive strength of the composite column according to the heating time according to the standard(Eurocode 4) was calculated and expressed as the axial force ratio and compared with the analytical and experimental values. Through the analysis, As a result of finite element analysis, the fire resistance time was 180 minutes and similar value to the experimental value was obtained, whereas the fire resistance time 150 minutes and 60 minutes were derived from the axial force ratios 0.6 and 0.7. In addition, it was confirmed that the fire resistance time according to the axial force ratio calculated according to the reference equation (Eurocode 4) was lower than the actual experimental value. However, it was confirmed that the standard(Eurocode 4) was higher than the experimental value at the axial force ratio of 0.7. Accordingly, it is possible to confirm the fire resistance characteristics(time-axial force ratio relationship) of the SRC column at high axial force, and to use the experimental and anaylsis data of the SRC column as the data for verification based on Eurocode.

In this study, an analysis technique of hybrid girder considering nonlinearity of steel-concrete contact surface is presented. Steel-concrete hybrid girder shows partial-interaction behavior due to the deformation of shear connectors, slip and detachment at the interface, and cracks under the applied loads. Therefore, the partial-interaction approach becomes more reasonable. Contact surface is modeled by interface element and analyzed nonlinearly because of cost of time and effort to detailed model and analysis. Steel and Concrete are modeled considering non-linearity of materials. Material property of contact surface is obtained from push-out test and input to interface element. For the constitutive models, Drucker-Prager and smeared cracking model are used for concrete in compression and tension, respectively, and a von-Mises model is used for steel. This analysis technique is verified by comparing it with test results. Using verified analysis technique, various analyses are performed with different parameters such as nonlinear material property of interface element and prestress. The results are compared with linear analysis result and analysis result with the assumption of full-interaction.

Structural behavior of built-up compression members with unsymmetric connectors under buckling status has been studied through these experiments. When the distance between adjacent H-300 beams of built-up compression member is 2 m in length, and the H-300 beams are lengthened up to 30 m in length with three-10 m-H-beams by bolts and double arrayed, three specimen having each connector plate, single channel, double channel are experimented for evaluating buckling loads. The buckling loads from the experiments are compared with buckling loads of structural analysis using FEM and buckling loads of Timoshenko Eq. in order to figure out how the connectors' type affects on longitudinal and lateral displacements, also strain of the built-up compression members as well. The result from the experiments show that the buckling loads 4.2% decreases in double channel connectors and 36.6% decreases in single channel connectors than plate connectors.

This study deals with numerical determination of stress intensity factors of adhesively patch-repaired plates with cracks at V-shaped or semicircular notches. The p-convergent anisoparametric model are considered and then three-dimensional virtual crack closure technique is presented using formulations of anisoparametric elements. In assumed displacement fields of an element, strain-displacement relations and three-dimensional constitutive equations are derived with three-dimensional hierarchical shape functions expanded from one-dimensional Lobatto functions. Transfinite mapping technique is used to represent a circular boundary. The present model provides accuracy and simplicity in terms of stress concentration factor, stress distribution, the number of degrees of freedom, and non-dimensional stress intensity factor as compared with previous works in literatures. Stress intensity factors obtained by the three-dimensional virtual crack closure technique are estimated with respect to the variation of width of finite plate, radius of notch root, angular inclination of V-shaped notch, and crack length.
A plasticity model was developed to predict the behavioral characteristics of concrete in multiaxial compression. To extend the applicability of the proposed model to concrete in various stress states, a new approach for failure criteria was attempted. A stress was decomposed into one volumetric and two deviatoric components orthogonal to each other. Three failure criteria wire provided independently for each stress component. To satisfy the three failure criteria, the plasticity model using multiple failure criteria was Implemented. Each failure surface was defined by equivalent volumetric or deviatoric plastic strain. To present dilatancy due to compressive damage a non-associative flow nile was proposed. The proposed model was implemented to finite element analysis, and it was verified by comparisons with various existing test results. The comparisons show that the proposed model predicted well most of the experiments by using three independent failure criteria.
Societal interest on a faster transportation demands an increase of the train speed exceeding current operation speed of 350 km/h. To trace the pattern of variations in displacements and subsoil stresses in the concrete slab track system, finite element simulations were conducted. For a simple track-vehicle modeling, a mass-point system representing the moving train load was developed. Dynamic responses with various train speeds from 100 to 700 km/h were investigated. As train speeds increase the displacement at rail and subsoil increases nonlinearly, whereas significant dynamic amplification at the critical velocity has not been found. At low train speed, the velocity of elastic wave carrying elastic energy is faster than the train speed. At high train speed exceeding 400 km/h, however, the train speed is approximately identical to the elastic wave velocity. Nonlinearity in the stress history in subsoil is amplified with increasing train speeds, which may cause significant plastic strains in path-dependent subsoil materials.
