New procedure for evaluation of creep reduction factor by the limit creep strain concept was introduced through the analysis of creep test results. To determine the limit creep strain of the geogrids, the Sherby-Dorm Plots were applied and the results of this procedure were compared and interpreted, respectively. From this, it is seen that the creep reduction factors were 1.45 for the geogrid samples used in this study. Through the comparison of creep reduction factors in 10% creep strain criteria, it was confirmed that the range of creep reduction factor is about 0.06~0.14 for the geogrid samples in this study.

A study of interactive ground behaviour due to tunnelling adjacent to existing piles has not been recognized well for the most geotechnical engineers so far. Because this is a very sophisticated boundary condition problem. In this study, therefore, the author has conducted both the laboratory model test and finite element analysis (FEA) to figure out such a complicated ground behaviour related to shear strain formations. Based on the model testing and FEA results, a boundary line which divides into two distinctive shear strain formations in relation to the locations of end-bearing pile tips was proposed. The author believes that the proposed boundary line may be helpful for planning the appropriate tunnel positions for avoiding damage of buildings which supported by piled-foundations in urban areas.
This paper aims to enhance the efficiency of bone fracture healing with bone plate made of fiber reinforced composite materials. The composite bone plate was designed as the same dimension and shape as the existing stainless steel bone plate. To find out the appropriate stacking sequence of the composite bone plate the variations of strain distributions were calculated using FE analysis when the bone plates were applied to the fracture site. From the analysis result it was found that the composite bone plate whose Young's modulus is lower than that of metal bone plate gave more uniform strain distribution and provided appropriate condition for callus formation and its development.
In this paper, the testing cell and the related theory far the interpretation of constant rate of strain (CRS) consolidation test results in case of radial drainage were developed. The proposed method makes it possible to evaluate consolidation characteristics of clayey soil rapidly and accurately. To investigate the application of the developed testing device and theory, CRS consolidation tests and incremental loading(IL) tests in radial drainage condition with remolded and undisturbed samples were performed. Comparisons of consolidation parameters from consolidation curves including coefficient of consolidation values show the applicability and the reliability of the suggested method. The experimental data were compared with additional vertical drainage CRS tests and IL tests, and then were analyzed considering the effect of the drainage direction. In addition, the effect of excess pore water pressure generated during CRS consolidation test was investigated.

Steady-state creep analysis of power generation turbine blade is carried out considering thermal loads and centrifugal forces. Creep strains and stresses of the turbine blade are calculated for 3-D finite clement model of the turbine blade. From the numerical results, creep life of the turbine blade is predicted. The results of creep analysis during about 200 hours indicate that creep strains of the turbine blade do not reach the rupture strain of GTD111. Creep stresses of the turbine blade are relaxed as time increases. Maximum creep strain occurs at the tip section of the airfoil pressure surface. The maximum creep strain of the turbine blade is expected close to the rupture strain after 50,000 hours approximately. The turbine blade may not have creep damage for the starting procedure of the turbine.

ECC is a special kind of high performance cementititous composite which exhibits typically more than 2% tensile strain capacity by bridging microcracks at a crack section. Therefore, micromechanics should be adopted to obtain multiple cracking and strain hardening behavior. This paper propose a linear elastic analysis method to simulate the multiple cracking and strain hardening behavior of ECC. In an analysis, the stress-crack opening relation modified considering the orientation of fibers and the number of effective fibers is adopted. Furthermore, to account for uncertainty of materials and interface between materials, the randomness is assigned to the tensile strength(${\sigma}_{fci}$), elastic modulus($E_{ci}$), peak bridging stress(${\sigma}_{Bi}$) and crack opening at peak bridging stress(${\delta}_{Bi}$), initial stress at a crack section due to chemical bonding, (${\sigma}_{0i}$), and crack spacing(${\alpha}_cX_d$). Test results shows the number of cracking and stiffness of cracked section are important parameters and strain hardening behavior and maximum strain capacity can be simulated using the proposed method.
Many investigators have tried to represent the nonlinear behavior of stress-strain relationship of concrete using mathematical curves. Most of empirical expressions for stress-strain relationship, however, have focused on old age concrete, and were not able to represent well the behavior of concrete at an early age. Where wide understanding on the behavior of concrete from early age to old age is very important in evaluating the durability and service life of concrete structures. In this paper, effect of 5 different strength levels and ages of from 12 hours to 28 days on compressive stress-strain relationship was observed experimentally and analytically. Tests were carried out on $\phi$100${\times}$200mm cylindrical specimens water-cured at 20${\pm}$3$^{\circ}C$. An analytical expression of stress-stain relationship with strength and age was developed using regression analyses on experimental results. For the verification of the proposed model, the model was compared with present and existing experimental data and some existing models. The analysis shows that the proposed model predicts well experimental data and describes well effect of strength and age on stress-strain relationship.

In this study, we perform the design of dome geometry for the composite pressure vessel with applying the equation of Fulton and Vasiliev considering external load(thrusts). Variables of the dome geometry are opening radius ratio(${\rho}_0$) from 0.1 to 0.5 and thrust level from 40kN to 200kN. We conduct Finite Element Analysis(FEA) by using ABAQUS. As a result, the strain of the composite pressure vessel has shown strain gradient from inner to outer of dome surface. And the strain gradient may cause crack of resin inside the composite laminate. Strain gradient of Fulton dome is monotonously decreased as the ${\rho}_0$ increases, but the strain gradient of Vasiliev dome bas shown some different trend. when ${\rho}_0{\leq}0.1$, strain gradient of Fulton's is higher than Vasiliev's. But when 0.1<${\rho}_0$<0.35, strain gradient of Vasiliev's becomes higher than Fulton's. And in the case of $0.35{\leq}{\rho}_0$, strain gradient of Vasiliev's is higher than Fulton's. So the Vasiliev dome is more effective in ${\rho}_0{\leq}0.1$ condition and Fulton dome is more effective in $0.35{\leq}{\rho}_0$ condition. So, it's important for dome design to consider the crack of resin cause of the strain gradient.

The analysis of linear static and free vibration problems of isotropic and laminated composite plates and shells is performed by the improved 9-node shell element with the new strain displacement relationship. In that relationship, the effect of new additional terms between the bending strain and displacement has been investigated in the warping problem. Natural co ordinate based strains, stresses and constitutive equations are used. The assumed natural strain method is used to alleviate both membrane and shear locking behavior from the element. The Lanczos method is employed in the calculation of the eigenvalues of laminated composite structures and the Gauss integration rule is adopted to evaluate the mass matrix. The numerical examples are compared with the analytical solutions to validate the current formulation and the results presented could be useful for the understanding of the behaviour of laminates under free vibration conditions.

Experimental and analytical studies are performed on the mechanical behavior of concrete-filled tubular(CFT) truss girders for different f/L ratios. Bending tests are conducted on two CFT truss girder specimens to determine fundamental structural characteristics such as the strength and deformation properties. Nonlinear material models for CFT members subjected to an axial compressive force are compared in this paper by using the nonlinear finite element program, ABAQUS. Previous researchers have proposed several nonlinear stress-strain models of confined concrete. In this study, the nonlinear analyses are performed applying several stress-strain models for confined concrete proposed by Mander, Sakino, Han, Susantha and Ellobody, and the results are compared with the experimental results in terms of load-deflection and load-strain relationships. Based on the comparisons of the load-deflection relationships, the models proposed by Mander and Susantha provide a maximum load about 12.0~13.8% higher and that by Sakino gives a maximum load about 7.6% higher than the experimental results. The models proposed by Han and Ellobody give a maximum load only about 0.2~1.2% higher than the test results, showing the best agreement among the proposed stress-strain models. However, the load-strain relations predicted by the existing models generally provide conservative results exhibiting larger strains than the experimental data.
