Using the finite element method and Taguchi's design technique, the displacement in vertical direction, von Mises stress, and strain energy of the corrugation damper have been analyzed as functions of the extruded length and the thickness of the corrugation damper, and the upper and lower corner radii of the damper. The optimized profile design elements of a corrugation damper are very important for increasing a strain energy absorption capacity of a helmet structure, which is attacked by impulsive external forces. In this study, the optimized design data based on the Taguchi's method was computed as a corrugation damper length of L = 20 mm, a damper thickness of t = 2 mm, the upper corner radius of $R_1=4\;mm$, and the lower corner radius of $R_2=3\;mm$. The optimized design parameters of a corrugation damper indicated that the thickness and extruded length of a corrugation damper may affect to increase the strain energy, which absorbs the impact forces of the helmet.

Humidity and strain were estimated for understanding the relation between humidity change by self-desiccation and shrinkage in high-performance concrete with low water binder ratio and containing fly ash and blast furnace slag. Internal humidity change and shrinkage strain were about 10%, 10%, 7%, 11%, 11% and $320{\times}10^{-6}$, $270{\times}10^{-6}$, $231{\times}10^{-6}$, $371{\times}10^{-6}$, $350{\times}10^{-6}$ respectively on OPC30, O30F10, O30F20, O30G40, O30G50 and from the results, fly ash made humidity change and strain decrease but slag increase comparing with ordinary portland cement. Considering only relation internal humidity and shrinkage by self-desiccation, humidity change and shrinkage represented the strong linear relation regardless of mineral admixture. For specifying the relation on internal humidity change and autogenous shrinkage strain, shrinkage model was established which is driven by capillary pressure in pore water and surface energy in hydrates on the assumption of a single network and extended meniscus in pore system of concrete. This model and experimental results had a similar tendency so it would be concluded that the internal humidity change by self-desiccation in HPC originated in small pores less than 20nm, therefore controlling plan on autogenous shrinkage might be focused on surface tension of water and degree of saturation in small pore.
In this paper the kinematics of damage for finite strain, elasto-plastic deformation is introduced using the fourth-order damage effect tensor through the concept of the effective stress within the framework of continuum damage mechanics. In the absence of the kinematic description of damage deformation leads one to adopt one of the following two different hypotheses for the small deformation problems. One uses either the hypothesis of strain equivalence or the hypotheses of energy equivalence in order to characterize the damage of the material. The proposed approach in this work provides a general description of kinematics of damage applicable to finite strains. This is accomplished by directly considering the kinematics of the deformation field and furthermore it is not confined to small strains as in the case of the strain equivalence or the strain equivalence approaches. In this work, the damage is described kinematically in both the elastic domain and plastic domain using the fourth order damage effect tensor which is a function of the second-order damage tensor. The damage effect tensor is explicitly characterized in terms of a kinematic measurure of damage through a second-order damage tensor. Two kinds of second-order damage tensor representations are used in this work with respect to two reference configurations.
The fracture energy evaluated from the previous experimental results can be simulated by using the modified singular fracture process zone (S-FPZ) model. The fracture model has two fracture properties of strain energy release rate for crack extension and crack close stress versus crack width relationship $f_{ccs}$ ( w ) for fracture process zone (FPZ) development. The $f_{ccs}$( w ) relationship is not sensitive to specimen geometry and crack velocity. The fracture energy rate in the FPZ increases linearly with crack extension until the FPZ is fully developed. The fracture criterion of the strain energy release rate depends on specimen geometry and crack velocity as a function of crack extension. The variation of strain energy release rate with crack extension can explain theoretically the micro-cracking, micro-crack localization and full development of the FPZ in concrete.
In this study, direct tension test for hybrid steel fiber reinforced ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC) containing two different steel fibers with a length of 16 and 19 mm was performed to investigate the fracture behavior of UHPC. Test results showed that crack strength and tensile strength, and fracture energy increased with increasing the fiber volume ratio. Based on the test results, the peak cohesive stress at the crack tip, tensile strength, and fracture energy depending on the fiber volume ratio were proposed. The proposed tensile strength of UHPC was suggested as a function of the fiber volume ratio and compressive strength. The peak cohesive stress at the crack tip and fracture energy were also proposed as a function of the tensile strength. The predicted values were relatively agree well with the test results. Thus, the proposed equations is expected to be applicable to UHPC with a compressive strength of 140~170 MPa and a fiber volume ratio of less than 2%.
The mechanical study on the anterior and posterior cruciate ligament(ACL, PCL) is of importance because the recent increase of outdoor and indoor activities is directly related to causing sport injuries on the knee joints. Constitutive models for many biological tissues have been known as hyperelasticitic models. The elastic behavior of ACL and PCL may be described by the free energy function which accounts for the matrix and the collagen fibers. This paper addresses a comparison of different types of the free energy function to the existing results.
Humidity and strain were estimated for understanding the relation between humidity change by self-desiccation and shrinkage in high-performance concrete with low water binder ratio. Internal humidity change and shrinkage strain were about 10%, 4% and $320\times10^{-6}$, $120\times10^{-6}$ respectively on concrete with water binder ratio 0.3, 0.4 and from the results, humidity change and shrinkage represented the strong linear relation regardless of mixture. For specifying the relation on internal humidity change and autogenous shrinkage strain, shrinkage model was established which is driven by capillary pressure in pore water and surface energy in hydrates on the assumption of a single network and extended meniscus in pore system of concrete. This model and experimental results had a similar tendency so it would be concluded that the internal humidity change by self-desiccation in HPC originated in small pores less than 20 nm, therefore controlling plan on autogenous shrinkage might be focused on surface tension of water and degree of saturation in small pore.

An analytical method capable of predicting various stress-strain responses in axially loaded concrete confined with FRP (fiber reinforced polymers) composites in a rational manner is presented. Its underlying idea is that the volumetric expansion due to progressive microcracking in mechanically loaded concrete is an important measure of the extent of damage in the material microstructure, and can be utilized to estimate the load-carrying capacity of concrete by considering the corresponding accumulated damage. Following from this, an elastic modulus expressed as a function of area strain and concrete porosity, the energy-balance equation relating the dilating concrete to the confining device interactively, the varying confining pressure, and an incremental calculation algorithm are included in the solution procedure. The proposed method enables the evaluation of lateral strains consecutively according to the related mechanical model and the energy-balance equation, rather than using an empirically derived equation for Poisson's ratio or dilation rate as in other analytical methods. Several existing analytical methods that can predict the overall response were also examined and discussed, particularly focusing on the way of considering the volumetric expansion. The results predicted by the proposed and Samaan's bilinear equation models correlated with observed results with a reasonable degree, however it can be judged that the latter is not capable of predicting the response of lateral strains correctly due to incorporating the initial Poisson's ratio and the final converged dilation rate only. Further, the proposed method seems to have greater benefits in other applications by the use of the fundamental principles of mechanics.

It is shown that the performance of finite element based on energy orthogonal functions may be superior to conventional formulation for plane stress problem. Using this finite element, it is then attempted to show the distribution of stress concentration effect for subsurface under loading point. It turned out that the stress concentration effect for subsurface is not dependent on the width of the member but the loading area. And then it is shown that the solution attained by taking the stress function as a Fourier series is not satisfactory in y<0.1B.
