  • This paper examines printed materials such as weekly newsletters and leaflets issued by Dansungsa, a movie theater in Colonial Korea for a promotional purpose as independent modern media. During the 1920s and 1930s, in tandem with the development of the incipient printing houses in Namchon, Gyeongseong, including Suyeongsa, Dansungsa published promotional prints including weekly newsletters and leaflets in a serial manner to compete with Joseon-gukjang and Umigwan. As these materials contain various information including movie programmes, spectatorship, distributional channels, and promotional strategies that bears witness to theater culture of this time, this paper focuses on the dynamics where not only text and image but also audiences and filmic texts are mediated one another. To this end, the paper has three objectives. First, I argue that weekly newsletters and leaflets can be considered as 'flickering media' that meddles in text and image culture. Second, Dansungsa's promotional prints interpellated film audiences as a loyal fan group while mediating audiences and filmic texts. In doing so, I suggest that these print materials established its own cultural domain differentiated from filmic culture itself. Third, these ephemeral materials contributed to narrowing the gap between colonial Joseon and the World in its imaginary geography through the function of mediation.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze musical styles emerging in modern musical history from the perspective of integration and deconstruction, and to academically investigate the characteristics contained in each style. The style of musicals can be divided into periods of non-integrity, integration, deconstruction, and convergence. The rise of musical styles and the associated meanings can be studied from the perspective of modernism and postmodernism. In modernism, the energies of 'integration' and 'concentration' form the major trend while in early postmodernism, the powers of 'deconstruction' and 'dispersion' play the main role. Late postmodernism is a dialectic result of both trends in which the philosophy of 'convergence' and 'harmony' operates as the main theme. The principle of integration and deconstruction, which forms the base of musical creation, emerged after the development of the unstable style of non-integrity in the early days of musical. Later, with the advent of Rogers and Hammerstein II, the principle of integration was established for book musicals, emphasizing the linearity of drama, and the principle of deconstruction was born for concept musicals to contain new contents. The 'convergence' found in later musical works turn the theme from non-integrity to integration, and from deconstruction to integration again, which indicates that integration is embracing the concept of deconstruction again in a more advanced sense. Such convergent compromise that constantly influences each other and develops in a better direction can contribute to the development of musical styles.

  • Objectives: This study attempted to provide prescriptions that can be used according to the classification of menopausal disorders in order to increase the clinical utilization of CaPSPI (Diagnostic System for Climacteric and Postmenopausal Syndrome Pattern Identification). Methods: Delphi method survey was conducted for expert consensus on the Pattern Identification that could be used for each prescription by selecting frequent prescriptions based on the literature researched on the prescription of Korean medicine used for women with menopausal disorders. 11 experts participated in the questionnaire for posterity and 7 experts for sasang constitution. The survey was divided into the main prescription that can be mainly used for the patterns and the minor prescription that can be used although the suitability is somewhat low. Expert consensus was obtained through the second survey, and the pattern classification of prescriptions that were not confirmed here was confirmed through a face-to-face meeting. Results: There were 56 prescriptions mainly used for treatment for menopause, 45 for posterity and 11 for Sasang constitution. There were 69 identifications of 45 posterity prescriptions and 17 classifications of 11 Sasang constitutional prescriptions including major and minor patterns. By pattern identifications, the number of major/minor prescriptions was as follows. 肝鬱 14/5, 腎陰虛 8/2, 腎陽虛 4/1, 肝腎陰虛 2/7, 腎陰陽兩虛 3/1, 心腎不交 6/3, 心脾兩虛 15/2, 心火 7/6. Conclusions: In the future, by accumulating and analyzing the data on the diagnosis and treatment using CaPSPI, the clinical status of Korean medicine for menopausal disorders can be reviewed, and it can be used as the basis for the clinical practice guidelines for menopausal disorders. In addition, it is thought that analyzing the results of the diagnosis of pattern identifications and the prescription of Sasang constitution can be helpful in research on the posterity and Sasang constitution.

  • The purpose of this study is to derive the characteristics of the creative process of convergence performing arts. Therefore, the PADAF-Play and Dance Art Festival, a representative convergence performing arts festival in Korea that has been held steadily every year since the first event in 2011, was selected as the subject of the study. Through PADAF, a representative convergence performing arts festival in Korea, qualitative case studies were selected through process-oriented discovery to study the characteristics of the creative process of convergence performing arts, which is a key feature of performing arts in the 21st century. For realistic and empirical research, the 8th and 9th PADAF participated in the entire process from the initial stage of preparation to the closing ceremony and conducted several in-depth interviews with PADAF officials and participating artists. Looking at the characteristics of the convergence performance art creation process through PADAF, creators overcame difficulties that they had not thought of in different ways in the process of meeting different heterogeneous genres, but through understanding other genres, experiential values through convergence, sharing as collaborators, and various ways of communication. The characteristics of the convergence performing arts creation process, which is focused on PADAF, are "Rhizom thinking" by French philosopher Gilles Deleuze(1925-1995), "Collective intelligence," and "Experimental Value for Experimental Creation" by creators. Through this derivation, we will help the changing performing arts scene based on the basic human desire to understand convergence performance art a little more and communicate through the extended expression of convergence.

  • Objectives: The aim of this study was to analyze the correlation between patterns determined by pattern identification of functional dyspepsia (FD) and tongue features, including tongue coating and tooth marks, in FD patients. Methods: We reviewed the clinical records of 68 FD patients who visited the Department of Digestive Diseases of Kyung Hee University Korean Medicine Hospital from September 1, 2020 to August 31, 2021. The subjects were evaluated with a computerized tongue image acquisition system (CTIS) and by pattern identification of FD. Measurement included the percentage of tongue coating, tooth mark levels, and pattern scores. Results: Statistically significant negative correlations were noted between the scores of the pattern of 'spleen and stomach deficiency and cold' (SSDC) and the percentage of tongue coating in whole, center, and root of the tongue body. However, no other patterns were correlated with any parameter measured by CTIS. No significant difference was noted in the percentage of tongue coating and the tooth mark level between the patterns. Conclusions: This study demonstrated that the pattern of SSDC was significantly associated with the percentage of tongue coating. We suggest that the percentage of tongue coating could be a useful indicator for identifying the degree of patterning of SSDC in patients with FD.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to investigate the satisfaction of students who participated in a role play using the syndrome differentiation CPX (Clinical Performance Examination) scenario in Korean Medicine Classics class, and to find out whether the results were correlated with self-assessment of treatment skills and subject achievement. Methods : In the Korean Medicine Classics class in the first semester of 2022, 44 first-year students in the Department of Korean Medicine completed theoretical education and formative evaluation on the subject of internal damage fever, and then role-played using CPX scenarios. Among them, 41 students consented to the study. Students who agreed to the study answered the satisfaction questionnaire consisting of 13 questions in 2 areas on learning methods and effects, and self-evaluation was conducted according to the evaluation items of medical technology consisting of 23 questions. Satisfaction and self-assessment results were analyzed for correlation, and additionally, correlation with Korean Medicine Classics subject achievement was also analyzed. Results : The result of student satisfaction with the role play was 4.87±0.06 while the result of student self-assessment of clinical skill was 4.73±0.16. The student satisfaction with the role play showed statisticallysignificant correlations with the self-assessment of clinical skill and quiz score of Korean Medical Classics while it did not show correlations with the total score of Korean Medical Classics and paper test. Also, the self-assessment of clinical skill did not show correlations with the total score of Korean Medical Classics, paper test, and quiz. Conclusions : Even though the students who performed the role play using the syndrome differentiation based CPX scenario highly assessed their clinical skill and showed high satisfaction, it did not show significant correlation with the achievement of Korean Medical Classics.

  • Objectives: This study aimed to comprehend the characteristics of Korean medicine patterns in relation to varying degrees of cognitive impairment in an elderly population. Methods: The dataset included 127 elderly individuals with cognitive impairment obtained from three Korean medicine hospitals between 2018 and 2021. The participants were categorized into two groups based on Clinical Dementia Rating-Sum of Boxes (CDR-SB) scores: those with questionable impairment (QI) and those with very mild dementia (VMD). A diagnostic framework for Korean medicine patterns encompassing Qi deficiency, Yin deficiency, Phlegm dampness, and Heat-fire was employed. Liver blood markers, including aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), and the AST/ALT ratio, were also analyzed. Results: The scores of the cognitive assessment tools (MoCA-K, MMSE-DS, and K-IADL) of the QI group significantly differed from those of the VMD group. CDR-SB exhibited a positive correlation with the scores of each pattern of Qi deficiency, Yin deficiency, Phlegm dampness, and Heat-fire, whereas ALT and AST values displayed negative correlations. Binomial logistic analysis, controlling for potential confounders, such as age, education years, body mass index, the presence of chronic disease, and the presence of medication, verified that the VMD group showed higher pattern scores and lower ALT and AST values than the QI group. Conclusions: Increases in pattern scores along with decreased AST and ALT levels might be indicative of more severe cognitive impairment.

  • The aim of this study is to determine the property of Daesoon thought in theory of God. The difference with precedent research is that this study catch the point in which theism as theology conflicts ontology as philosophy. It is elusive without philosophical analysis to detect this point for reasons of religious expression on scriptures. To find this point is beginning of academic communication at religious position. So I tried to draw boundary between theology and philosophy in Daesoon thought so as to apprehend Daesoon thought treats the contradiction of that. The contradiction is found that hierarchy between Sangje and taegeuk reverses on Daesoon thought. Fundamentally two substance can't be arranged to ontology but only one can be. It seems that Daesoon thought has got antinomy. However superiority of Daesoon thought is appeared at this point. The antinomy is just the process to absolute truth of Tao. That is a progressive system of thought in both religious and philosophical aspect. Finally, the result of this study can be organized with five items. First is to get new direction to study of Daesoon thought to catch the clash between theology and ontology. Second is that Daesoon thought can communicate the mainstream philosophy like Hegel's while the argumentation makes progress with Hegel's thought. Third is that Daesoon thought has originality in ontology of tao, mugeuk, tageuk as compared with neo-Confucianism. Forth is that theology of Daesoon thought has the possibility to peace among religions. Fifth is that Daesoon thought transcends religion and philosophy to absolute truth. Particularly, the noteworthy item is about peace among religions as theme of religious practice as the needs of times. The conflict of religion is very serious impact to historic future. So Daesoon thought suggests that all the religions harmonize with each other in universality and respect each other in distinctiveness. It makes it possible to aims for world peace beyond theory to practical orientation on religious creed. In history of philosophy the dialetic of Hegel is the very adequate to explain that principle. Hegel argued that human mind can reach to the absolute knowledge at 『Phänomenologie des Geistes』. He elucidates the process that mind attain the absolute knowledge through movement of negation at 『Phänomenologie des Geistes』. The dialetics leads all the process of mind to finality of the absolute spirit.
