The punching shear strength of RC slabs is estimated analytically by the simple truss model. To avoid intrinsic difficulties in punching shear analysis of reinforced concrete slabs, the slabs were divided into three sub-structures as the punching cone and the remaining parts. The strength of the punching cone was evaluated by the stiffness of inclined strut. The stiffness of springs which control lateral displacement of the roller supports consists of the steel reinforcement which passed through the punching cone. Initial angle of struts was determined by curve fitting method of the experimental data with variable reinforcement ratio in order to compensate for uncertainties in the slab's punching shear, the simplification errors and the stiffness of the remaining sub-structures. The validity of computed punching shear strength by simple truss model was shown by comparing with experimental results. The punching shear strength, which was determined by snap-through critical load of shallow truss, can be used effectively to examine punching shear strength of RC slabs.

To describe hysteretic behavior of steel structures under dynamic loading such as earthquake, the dynamic cyclic plasticity model considering stress-strain relationship and characteristics of used steel materials under static-dynamic deforming is required. In this paper, mechanical characteristics and stress-strain relationship of SM490 was clarified by carrying out static-dynamic monotonic and cyclic loading test. A dynamic cyclic plasticity model of SM490 was proposed based on the test results and applied 3-dimensional finite element analysis using finite deformation theory. An analytical method developed by the authors was verified validity and accuracy by comparing both analysis and test results. The comparison result shows that the analytical method developed by the authors can predict static-dynamic hysteretic behavior of steel structures with accuracy.

Objectives This study aimed to propose biomarkers for diagnosing Chuna manual therapy (CMT) based on X-ray images in the thoracic and lumbar spines. Methods Through a literature review and expert consensus process, diagnostic biomarkers for CMT were selected based on the listing system in thoracic and lumbar radiograph anterior-posterior (AP) and lateral views. Results 1. Diagnostic biomarkers were derived from four points on the outer contour of the vertebral body in the thoracic and lumbar spine radiograph lateral view, enabling the diagnosis of flexion and extension malposition. 2. Additional diagnostic biomarkers were identified in the thoracic and lumbar radiographAP view, utilizing points on the outer contour of the vertebral body. These biomarkers facilitate the diagnosis of lateral bending. Moreover, biomarkers derived from the innermost point of the pedicle contour allow for the diagnosis of rotation malposition. 3. Furthermore, through the biomarkers proposed in this study, all malpositions of the thoracolumbar spines and complex Type I and II malpositions can be diagnosed in CMT. Conclusions The biomarkers reported in this study consist of minimal points to determine the position of the vertebral body, providing the advantage of simplicity while minimizing potential errors during the CMT diagnostic process. Further clinical research and the development of related programs should be pursued to expand the evidence for CMT.
Love wave and Rayleigh wave are the major elastic waves belonging to the category of the surface wave. Those waves are used to determine the ground stiffness profile using their dispersion characteristics. The fact that Love wave is not contaminated by P-wave makes Love wave superior to Rayleigh wave and other body waves. Therefore, the information that Love wave carries is more distinct and clearer than that of others. Based on theoretical research, the joint inversion analysis that uses the dispersion information of both Love and Rayleigh wave was proposed. This analysis consists of the forward modeling using transfer matrix, the sensitivity matrix for evaluating the ground system and DLSS (Damped Least Square Solution) as an inversion technique. The technique of joint inversion uses the dispersion characteristics of Love wave and Rayleigh wave simultaneously making the sensitivity matrix. The sensitivity matrix was used for inversion analysis repeatedly to find the approximate ground stiffness profile. The purpose of the joint inversion analysis is to improve accuracy and convergency of inversion results by utilizing that frequency contribution of each wave is different.

The climate change occurring all over the world increases the risk, specially in urban area, Accordingly, rainwater pumping station expansion is required than before. In order to increase the efficiency of the rainwater pumping station, the analysis of flow characteristics in the pump sump is needed for vortex control. Many efforts have been made to illuminate the vortex behavior using PIV, but any reliable results have not been obtained yet, because of the limitations in image capturing and dependency of measured velocity values on the interrogation area and time interval used for velocity calculation. In this study, therefore, experiments were carried out to find out the limitation of PIV and estimate the validation of the velocity values associated with the analysis parameters such as interrogation area, time interval, grid size. For the experimental condition used in this study, the limitation of PIV and the effects of parameters on the velocity estimation are presented.
An analytical solution of dynamic responses for seabed in finite and infinite thicknesses including shallow has been developed under flow and partial standing wave with arbitrary reflection ration coexisting field at a constant water depth condition. In the analytical solution, a field was simply transited to a coexisting field of progressive wave and flow when reflection ratio was 0 and to a coexisting field of fully standing wave and flow when reflection ratio was 1. Based on the Biot's consolidation theory, the seabed was assumed as a porous elastic media with the assumptions that pore fluid is compressible and Darcy law governs the flow. The developed analytical solution was compared with the existing results and was verified. Using the analytical solution the deformation, pore pressure, effective and shear stresses were examined under various given values of reflection ratio, flow velocity, incident wave's period and seabed thickness. From this study, it was confirmed that the dynamic response of seabed was quite different depending on consideration of flow, which causes changing period and length of incident and reflection waves. It was also confirmed that dynamic response significantly depends on the magnitude of reflection ratio.

Rigid soil containers (or rigid boxes) are often used for 1g shaking table tests. The rigid boxes, however, do not accurately simulate the amplification of ground acceleration and phase difference of seismic motion in the model ground due to the confinement of shear deformation and the reflection of seismic wave at the box walls. Laminar soil containers (or laminar shear boxes) can simulate the free field motion at convincingly superior accuracy than the rigid ones. In this study, the soft ground is modeled for both types of boxes and is subjected to seismic loading using a 1g shaking table. The comparison of the results using the two types of soil containers illustrates that, in case of the rigid box, the ground acceleration shows non uniform distribution and the phase synchronization of input motion. Whereas, the dynamic behavior of the laminar shear box shows good agreement with the free field behaviors such as the amplification of ground acceleration and the occurrence of phase difference.

In this study, a U-shape composite beam was developed to be effectively used for a steel parking lot which is 8m or lower in height. When the U-shape composite beam was applied to a steel parking lot, essential considerations were story-height and long-span. In addition, due to the mixed structural system with reinforced concrete and steel material, the U-shape composite beam needed to have a structural integrity and reliable performance over demand capacity. The main objective of this study was to investigate the performance of the structure consisting of the reinforced concrete (RC) slab and U-shape beam. A U-shape composite beam generally used at a parking lot served as a control specimen. Four specimens were tested under four-point bending. To calculate theoretical values, strain gauges were attached to rebar, steel plate, and concrete surface in the middle of the specimens. As the results, initial yielding strength of the control specimen occurred at the bottom of the U-shaped steel. After yielding, the specimen reached the maximum strength and the RC slab concrete was finally failed by concrete crush due to compressive stress. The structural performance such as flexural strength and ductility of the specimen with the increased beam depth was significantly improved in comparison with the control specimen. Furthermore, the design of the U-shape composite beam with the consideration of flexural strength and ductility was effective since the structural performance by a negative loading was relatively decreased but the ductile behavior was evidently improved.
The velocity horizontal response spectra using the observed ground motions from the recent 5 macro earthquakes, equal to or larger than 4.8 in magnitude, around Korean Peninsula were analysed and then were compared to the acceleration horizontal response spectra, seismic design response spectra (Reg Guide 1.60), applied to the domestic nuclear power plants, and finally the Korean Standard Design Response Spectrum for general structures and buildings. 102 velocity horizontal ground motions, including NS and EW components, were used for velocity horizontal response spectra and then normalized with respect to the peak velocity value of each ground motion. First, the results showed that velocity horizontal response spectra have larger values at the range of medium natural period, but acceleration horizontal response spectra have larger values at the range of short natural periods. Secondly, the results also showed that velocity horizontal response spectra exceed Reg. Guide 1.60 for longer natural periods bands less than 6-7 Hz. Finally, the results were also compared to the Korean Standard Response Spectrum for the 3 different soil types(SC, SD, and SE soil type) and showed that velocity horizontal response spectra revealed much higher values for the frequency bands below 1.5(SC), 2.0(SD), and 3.0(SE) seconds, respectively, than the Korean Standard Response Spectrum. The results suggest that the fact that acceleration, velocity, and displacement horizontal response spectra have larger values at the range of short, medium, and long natural periods, respectively, can be applied consistently to those form domestic ground motion, especially, the velocity ground motion. Information on response spectrum at such medium range periods can be very important since the domestic design of buildings and structures emphasizes recently medium and long natural periods than short one due to increased super high-rise buildings.
Precise bracket positioning is essential in modem orthodontics. However, there can be alterations in the vertical position of a bracket due to several reasons. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of variations in the vertical bracket position on the crown inclination in Korean patients with normal occlusion. From a larger group of what was considered to be normal occlusions obtained from the Department of Orthodontics, College of Dentistry, Seoul National University, each of the final 10 subjects (6 males and 4 females, with an average age of 22.3 yews) was selected. The dental models of each of the subjects were scanned three-dimensionally by a laser scanner, and measurements drawn from these were made on the scanned dental casts of the subjects were input into the computer program. From this the occlusal plane and the bracket plane were determined. The tooth plane was then constructed to measure the crown inclination on the bracket plane of each tooth. From a practical standpoint, information was obtained on the extent to which the torque of a tooth would be changed as the bracket position was to be moved vertically (in ${\pm}0.5mm,\;{\pm}1.0mm,\;{\pm}1.5mm$) from its ideal position. A one way analysis of the variance (ANOVA) was used to compare each group of the different vertical distances from the bracket plane on a specific tooth. Duncan's multiple comparison test was then performed. There were statistically significant differences in the crown inclination among the groups of different vertical distances for the upper central incisor, upper lateral incisor, upper canine, upper first and second molars, lower first and second premolars, and lower first and second molars (p<0.05). On the upper anterior teeth, upper molars, lower premolars and lower molars, the resultant torque values due to the vertical displacement of the bracket were different depending on the direction of the displacement, occlusal or gingival. This study implies that the torque of these teeth should be handled carefully during the orthodontic treatment. In circumstances in which the bracket must be positioned more gingivally or occlusally due to various reasons, it would be useful to provide the chart of torque alteration of each tooth referred to in this study with its specified bracket prescription.
