Productivity Change and Relative Efficiency of Korean Professional Baseball Teams (한국 프로야구 구단의 상대적 효율성 및 생산성 변화)

  • Most of professional baseball teams are not good for business condition because of operation costs in spite of support of mother company. This study measured the relative efficiency and productivity change of the Korean professional baseball teams using DEA model and Malmquist Index for 2006-2008. The main results of this study can be summarized as follows. First, in case of efficiency of CCR for 2006-2008, the number of efficient professional baseball teams(CCR value is one) are two(Doosan Bears, Samsung Lions), two(Doosan Bears, SK Wyberns), two(Lotte Giants, LG Twins) respectively. Second, in case of efficiency of BCC for 2006-2008, the number of efficient professional baseball teams(BCC value is one) are three(Doosan Bears, Samsung Lions, LG Twins ), four(Doosan Bears, SK Wyberns, Samsung Lions, Kia Tigers), four(Lotte Giants, LG Twins, SK Wyberns, Samsung Lions) respectively. Third, average of Malmquist Index representing productivity change for 2006-2008 are 1.0615, 1.0293 respectively. These values mean increase of productivity. Results of this study can be used by inefficient professional baseball teams to improve inefficiency.

Comparison of Forage Yield and Quality of Forage Legume (콩과목초의 사초 수량 및 품질 비교)

  • Forage legumes are being used as an important source of protein for dairy farm as well as nitrogen fertilizer. This experiment was conducted to evaluate forage production and quality of five legumes at Cheonan Yonam College Experimental Livestock Farm for 1 year(2001-2002). Five legumes were crimson clover (Trifolium incarnatum L.) 'Tibbee', hairy vetch(Vicia villosa Roth) 'Common', red clover(Trifolium pratense L.) 'Kenland', persian clover(Trifolium resupinatum L.) 'Leeton', alfalfa(Medicago sativa L.) 'Vernal'. All legumes were shown cold hardiness of 8 rating or higher except crimson clover(7 rating). Flowering stage was observed 23th of April for crimson clover, 13th of May for hairy vetch, 3rd of May for red clover, and 12th of May for alfalfa. But persian clover didn't at harvest. Dry rnatter(DM) of crimson clover(17.6%) was the highest among legumes. In DM and total digestible nutrients(TDN) yields, crimson clover and hairy vetch were higher than those of other legumes. The crude protein of hairy vetch(20.5%) was the highest among legumes. In neutral detergent fiber(NDF) and acid detergent fiber(ADF), persian clover was the lowest(35.0% and 25.0%). Calculations of relative feed value(RFV) based on NDF and ADF of legumes were over 125(Prime degree) except hairy vetch. RFV and TDN of persian clover were the highest among legumes. According to the results of this study, crimson clover and hairy vetch are excellent in forage yield. Persian clover is superior in forage quality among legumes.

Physicochemical Properties of Aloe Added Bagel (알로에를 첨가한 베이글의 물리화학적 특성)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the physicochemical properties of aloe added bagel. The result of sensory evaluation showed that addition of the aloe powder above 1% was not advisable because of its bitterness. freeze dried aloe powder(0, 1%, 0.5%, 1%) was added to bagel and chemical compositions of doughs were evaluated. The ash content of control was 0.444% and each of the samples(0.1%, 0.5%, 1%) was 0.472%, 0.553%, and 0.633% respectively. Although the ash content of dough increased gradually according to the addition of aloe powder, the volume of the bagel was not affected much. As the amount of the aloe powder was changed, the water absorption rate, the extensibility, and the viscosity of the dough were affected. The physical characteristics of dough were as follows: 1) The water absorption rate of the dough was gradually decreased from 65.3% at control, to 65.2% at 0.1%, 64.2% at 0.5%, 63.5% at 1% each by farinograph. 2) The extensibility of the dough was significantly declined at 1% by extensograph; from 20.7cm at control, to 20.3cm at 0.1%, 18.8cm at 0.5%, and 16.4cm at 1% each. 3) The top viscosity of the dough was sharply declined between 575 B.U at control and 515 B.U at 0.1%, afterwards, 480 B.U at 0.5%, 475 B.U at 1% each by viscograph. Considering the result of the test, aloe added bagel could promote physicochemical properties of dough as well as health effects.

Quality Characteristics of Bagel Added with Tomato Powder (토마토 분말 첨가 베이글의 품질 특성)

  • This study examined the quality characteristics of bagel added with tomato powder (0, 3, 6, and 9%). Density of dough significantly increased with tomato powder content, whereas pH significantly decreased. Baking loss rate significantly decreased with tomato powder content while moisture significantly increased. Lightness of bagel significantly decreased with increasing tomato powder content, whereas redness and yellowness significantly increased with tomato powder content. Hardness was lower in the addition group than in the control group; springiness, cohesiveness, gumminess, and chewiness significantly decreased with increasing tomato powder content. 2,2-Diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl radical scavenging activities and total phenol contents significantly increased as tomato powder content increased. For quality assessment, the 3% addition group received the highest ratings in terms of appearance, color, taste, and overall quality but not texture, indicating the highest potentials for development.

The Study for Reduction Effect of Riverbed Scour due to Shape of Vanes (베인 형태에 따른 하상세굴 저감 효과에 관한 연구)

  • Recently, Heavy rains and super typhoons occurred by climate change cause a lot of damage in Korea. In order to reduce such damage, various types of river maintenance projects are being promoted, but it is difficult to maintain the balance of rivers in Korea with distinct flood and dry seasons. In particular, river structures installed as a river maintenance project cause various problems such as scouring of structures and their foundations during floods and river bed changes. In order to reduce such bed scour, various vanes are installed in the bend of the river, and various bed scour reduction effects appear depending on the size, arrangement, and shape of the vanes. The vane regenerates the secondary flow in the opposite direction to the secondary flow generated by the centrifugal force, thereby reducing scour around the outer bed and promoting deposition. The theory of this study uses the governing equation applying the continuity equation that satisfies the law of conservation of mass and the momentum equation that satisfies the conservation of momentum, and measures the overall average flow velocity change rate according to design factors to investigate the effect of vanes under various conditions. Both the average and cross-sectional flow velocities decreased in both the trapezoidal vane and the square vane. In addition, vanes installed perpendicularly or inclined to the direction of river flow generate a secondary flow in the opposite direction to the secondary flow generated by centrifugal force, thereby canceling the secondary flow of centrifugal force, so the effect of the vane appears.

  • 지난 4월 12일 본회는 이효상 국회의장님, 김형석 교수님 및 이종문 전사무국장님을 모시고 건설회관 강당에서 금년도 도서관주간기념강연회를 개최하였다. 이날의 강연회에는 현직도서관인, 도서관학과 재학생 및 일반시민 300여명이 참집한 가운데 성대하고도 뜻 있는 잔치가 베풀어졌다. 이에 세 분 연사님들의 강연요지를 수록하여 이 모임을 기념코자 한다.
