The purpose of this study is to predict visual-spatial working memory performance through the characteristics of an electroencephalogram (EEG) in the resting state. The 31 study participants, middle school students with various to academic performance, were underwent visual-spatial working memory test in the Comprehensive Attention Test (CAT) on December in 2014. Each 7 and 6 participants were divided into an Excellent Working Memory (EWM) group and Poor Working Memory (PWM) group depending on the forward/backward working memory scores. The EEG measurements and analysis of the data from a Brain Function Tester were performed by the two groups. A Mann-Whitney Test was used to examine the statistical differences between them. The activation of high beta (${\beta}H$) at the Fp1 and Fp2 sites in the left and right hemisphere, and that of the low beta (${\beta}L$) in the right hemisphere in the EWM group was significantly higher than that in the PWM group. In conclusion, there is a correlation between the visual-spatial working memory performance and the activation of ${\beta}H$ and ${\beta}L$ in the resting state and a close correlation that of ${\beta}L$ in the right hemisphere in terms of mental activity and faculty. Therefore, the visual-spatial working memory performance can be predicted by the activation of ${\beta}H$ and ${\beta}L$ in the resting state. The activation of EEG can be applied as an assessment tool and provide basis data for visual-spatial working memory performance.
In this paper, a method of discriminating EEG for diagnoses of mental activity is proposed. The proposed method for classification of schizophrenia and normal EEG is based on the wavelet transform and the artificial neural network. The wavelet coefficients of $\alpha$ band, $\beta$ band, $\theta$ band, and $\delta$ band are obtained using the wavelet transform. The magnitude, mean, and variance of wavelet coefficients for each EEG band are applied to the input data of the system's ANN. The architecture of the ANN s a four layered feedforward network with two hidden layer which implements the error back propagation learning algorithm. Through the classification of schizophrenia composed of 19 ANNs corresponding to 19 channels, the classifying system show that it can classify the 100% of the normal EEG group and the 86.67% of the schizophrenia EEG group.

Objectives : Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder(ADHD) is characterized by significant impairments in executive functions, with a prevalence of approximately 3-5% of all children worldwide. The goal of this study was to examine the relationship between executive functions and electrophysiological activities in children and adolescents with ADHD. Methods : In 31 patients with ADHD, resting-state EEG was recorded, and Comprehensive Attention Test(CAT), Stroop Color-Word Inference Test(Stroop CWIT), Trail Making Test(TMT), and Wisconsin Card Sorting Test(CST) were administered. Korean version of the ADHD Rating Scale(K-ARS) was assessed. Results : Alpha and beta power positively correlated with the Attention Quotient(AQ), while delta power negatively correlated with AQ from CAT. In the Stroop CWIT, decreased delta power and increased beta power were related to higher performance. Power of the alpha band increased with higher TMT performance. Moreover, delta power negatively correlated with good performance on the CST, while alpha and high gamma band showed a positive correlation. Correlation with the parent-rating of ADHD symptoms showed a negative correlation between alpha power and higher scores on the K-ARS. Conclusions : These findings indicate that relative power in higher frequency bands of EEG is related to the higher executive function in children and adolescents with ADHD, while the association with the relative power in lower frequency bands of EEG seem to be vice versa. Furthermore, the findings suggest that QEEG may be a useful adjunctive tool in assessing patients with ADHD.

The present study identified the brain based learning activities on the individual learning senses by using the brain laterality and the whole brain index. Students receive the information through the visual, auditory, and kinesthetic senses by Politano and Paquin's (2000) classification. These learning senses are reflected on brain by the various combinations of senses for learning. Measuring the types of the learning senses involving in brain laterality and whole brain is required to figure out the related learning styles. Self-directed learning involved in the learning senses shows the problem-based learning associated to the brain function by emphasizing the balanced brain utilization which is known as whole brain. These research results showed the successful whole brain learning is closely associated with elevated auditory learning and elevated visual learning in sensorimotor brainwave rhythm (SMR) while it shows the close association with elevated kinesthetic and elevated visual learning in beta brainwave rhythm.
Extension plate attached PHC piles and bolts spliced PHC piles were installed in field test site. Pile integrities were checked during installation with dynamic pile test and the actual pile conditions after installation were compared with integrity index (${\beta}$ index) by PDA test. Theoretically the break in near pile end or pile end (especially extension plate itself) was very difficult to access by integrity index (${\beta}$ index) and also require a high level of knowledge and field experience on PDA test. First actual wave equation of bolts spliced PHC piles due to bolts spliced equipment can be different with welding spliced. Second wave length of the stress wave from installing can be longer than the height of bolts spliced equipment (about 100 mm). Third Beta processing in PDA analysis function is very difficult to access without a high level of knowledge and field experience on wave equation. Above-mentioned three reasons can make conclusion that traditional PDA test in domestic site can not access the integrity of bolts spliced equipment in bolts spliced PHC piles.

The purpose of this study was to compare how three kinds of emotionally different music impacted on the emotion and arousal by measuring EEG. The research method was to compare the measurement of the background EEG on Fp1 and Fp2 before, while and after listening using a 2-channel EEG device with various experimental groups aging from 20s to 50s. The results were as follows. 1) At both Fp1 and Fp2, the amplitude of alpha(8-13Hz), SMR(12-15Hz), low beta, high beta, and ${\alpha}/-{\beta}$significantly increased in all music, while at Fp2 only, theta and ??/SMR increased meaningfully.2) At right prefrontal cortex(Fp2), all bands of EEG predominated while and after listening to all songs over Fp1 except for the delta of funeral march which predominated while listening to Fp1.3) The music with a noticeably high alpha value and increased activity was Prelude. These results suggested that Prelude induced brain activity along with relaxation, and the emotionally heavy burden of funeral march decreased the activity of the left brain. This research revealed that feeling emotional change by listening to music was due to the fact that music influenced the brain activity inducing the change of emotion and arousal.
Introduction: It has been proposed that narcolepsy and REM sleep behavior disorder (RBD) have overlapped symptom profile and pathophysiology. This study was aimed at measuring and comparing changes in EEG frequency band of REM sleep in narcolepsy and RBD, applying EEG spectral analysis method. Methods: Nine patients diagnosed as narcolepsy and the same number of RBD patients were studied. Spectral analysis of the REM sleep EEG was performed in each patient on 9 epochs selected evenly from the first, second, and third REM periods. Then, we compared frequency band percentages of REM sleep EEG in narcolepsy and RBD. Results: Narcolepsy patients had significantly higher delta frequency ratio than RBD ones (p=0.00). In alpha and beta2 frequency bands, RBD patients showed higher percentage than narcolepsy ones. Slow wave sleep was more prevalent in narcolepsy patients. But, no difference of REM sleep percentage was found between the two groups (p=0.93). Conclusion: Higher delta frequency ratio in REM sleep of narcolepsy patients than RBD ones reflects that sleep-promoting mechanism is more dominant in narcolepsy than in RBD.

This study examined the change in the attention of University students after being given Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS). The participants were divided randomly into two group (tDCS vs. Control). tDCS was applied to 37 university students ($23.08{\pm}3.33years$). The tDCS group was applied 2 mA, for 13 minutes twice over a 26 minute period ($n_1=19$). The control ($n_2=18$) was not applied after padding and was applied twice for 13 minutes over a 26 minute period. This study was conducted from September 3 to 28, 2018 and three times a week for a total of four weeks. The electroencephalogram was confirmed to affect attention. tDCS showed significant improvement in the results in the sensory motor rhythm wave (p<0.01, 95% CI: -1.955, -0.459), middle beta wave (p<0.05; 95% CI: 0.027, 0.943), and power ratio (p<0.01, 95% CI: -1.764, -0.315). The results showed that tDCS application increased the attention ability significantly. These results can be applied to attention deficit disorder (ADHD) patients and college students.
Objectives: Periodic leg movements in sleep (PLMS) might be subdivided based upon whether or not they are associated with visible EEG microarousals (MA). MA is considered to be responsible for nonrestorative sleep and daytime fatigue. The American Sleep Disorders Association's (ASDA) scoring rules for MA based on visual analysis of the EEG changes suggest that MA should last more than 3 seconds. However, it has been suggested that visual analysis may not detect some changes in EEG activity. This study is aimed at measuring changes in EEG spectra during PLMS without MA in order to better understand the arousing response of PLMS. Methods: Ten drug-free patients (three men and seven women) diagnosed with PLMS by polysomnography were studied. Spectral analysis of the EEG was performed in each patient on 30 episodes of PLMS without MA, chosen randomly across the night in stage 2 non-REM sleep. We applied stricter criteria for MA compared to ASDA, by defining it as a return to alpha and theta frequency lasting at least 1 second. Results: The mean PLMS index was $16.7{\pm}10.0$. The mean PLMS duration was $1.3{\pm}0.7$ seconds. Comparison of 4-second EEG activity both before and after the onset of PLMS without MA using independent t-test showed that the movements were associated with significant increase of relative activity in the delta band (p=0.000) and significant decrease of activity in the alpha (p=0.01) and sigma (p=0.000) bands. No significant decrease in the theta (p=0.05), beta (p=0.129), or gamma (p=0.062) bands was found. Conclusion: PLMS without MA was found to be associated with EEG change characterized by increase in the delta frequency band. This finding seems to be compatible with the hypothesis of an integrative hierarchy of arousal responses of Sforza's. Considering that the subjects had lower PLMS index and shorter PLMS duration than those of the previous study, it is suggested that an even less severe form of PLMS without MA could induce neurophysiologic change, which may potentially be of clinical significance.
This study analyzed the effect by comparing it with 2D game using playtest experimental treatment methodology to verify the video effect, materiality and fatigue effect of 3D video game. First, for the hypothesis to verify the difference of video experience of users for 3D and 2D games, visual clarity was rejected, but materiality, tangibility and presence hypotheses were all accepted. Second, it was shown that there was no difference in eye fatigue and physical fatigue in 3D and 2D games. It was different from results of existing research which claimed that fatigue occurred due to video distortion occurring in 3D video and fatigue inducing factors. Third, the results of measurement of changes in brain wave occurring in the course of playing 3D and 2D games showed that there was no difference in average amplitude of EEG alpha wave, but EEG beta wave occurred in higher amplitude. This study proved the cerebral physiological change and difference in the process of experience to use 3D video game by complementing the methodology in measurement in EEG brain wave in the traditional experimental method.
