  • The purpose of this study is to summarize study trend and achievements of recreation specialization, introduced to Korea in 1996 and recently started to be discussed a lot, and to state the problems and future development. Data related to recreation specialization were collected by using the database of KISS and RISS and 34 studies were utilized for the analysis. The studies were classified into six types; type I-introduction and proposal, type T-study tendency of recreation specialization in foreign countries, type U-quantitative studies using uni-dimensional approach to recreation specialization, type M-quantitative studies using multi-dimensional approach to recreation specialization, type Q-qualitative studies, and type S-variable relations using SEM. One of the problems found in the studies is that recreation specialization is still analyzed by using uni-dimensional approach to recreation specialization. Second, measures directly translated from foreign studies need to be verified the validity. In addition, domestic studies tend to simply follow foreign studies. Lastly, the studies lack variety(diversity) of research methods and researchers. The authors of this study argue that researchers must develop measures appropriate to Korean culture and diversify the research subjects and study methods.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze how a well-structured cognitive reflection journal can affect a learner's metacognition and learning achievement in the area of Engineering Education. The objects of this study were 143 students in total (experimental group: 52, control group: 91) who are taking the 'Fundamental Semiconductor Engineering' course in the Engineering Department at D college in the metropolitan area. For his particular study, we undertook three steps as follows. First, we verified that the two groups of students were equal in areas of metacognition and learning achievement. Second, the experimental group was asked to keep writing the well-structured reflection journal for four weeks and the control group was not. Third, we evaluated the metacognition and learning achievement. This study used a questionnaire to measure metacognition by Sperling(2002) in a Korean translation as well as a well-structured cognitive reflection journal. As a result, we found that the well-structured cognitive reflection journal affects learners positively in the sense of metacognition ability, continuity as well as learning achievement.

  • In this study, we tested the reliability and validity of the Korean Version of nonattachment scale(K-NAS) that Sahdra et al., had developed to measure for nonattachment. In result, the internal consistency coefficient(Cronbach's alpha) of the K-NAS was (.94) high, correlation coefficients of item-total were to .32 from .69. The result of factor analysis showed that single factor accounted for 37.77 % of the total variance. Confirmatory factor analysis and additional exploratory factor analysis demonstrated that the 1 factor model was satisfactory. K-NAS was positively related to experiences scale, self-compassion, psychological well-being and mindfulness, and negatively related to depression. These findings suggest that the Korean Version of Nonattachment Scale(K-NAS) was reliable and valid scale to measure for nonattachment. Finally, The implication of this study and direction for future study were discussed.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships among delay gratification, delay strategy, and parents' child-rearing attitude. The participants of the study were 62, 18-36 month old infants, who demonstrated individual differences in the level of delay gratification and their mothers. The instruments of the study were infant's delay gratification and delay strategy were assessed by Mischele(1974) and the parents' responded to the parents' child-rearing attitude(Cho et al., 1999). Data were collected by menas of conducting observations on infants in experimental settings and completing questionnaires with mothers. The results of this study were as follows: 1. The delay gratification of infants differed accordingly to their age. Older infants displayed increased time in showing their delay gratification, while younger infants relatively exhibited shortened time. There was no significant difference in infants' sex and the order of the birth. 2. Following the age factor, the distraction strategy in the delay strategy played a significant difference to infants. Older infants required a frequent use of the distraction strategy in comparison to younger infants. 3. The previous two factors - delay gratification and distraction strategy-showed a positive relationship. 4. The delay gratification was significantly influenced by infants' age, parents' attitude, direct facing strategy, and infants' distraction strategy. However, the delay gratification was insignificantly accounted for by infants' sex.
