A flow stabilizer, which is made of a honeycomb and three different mesh screens, is located downstream of a butterfly-type valve, for the reduction of flow disturbances behind the valve. Mean flow and turbulence measurements as well as flow visualizations are conducted in the downstream region of the deepens the non-uniformity of the streamwise velocity component and turbulence. The mesh screens considerably reduce the turbulence and enhance the uniformity of mean velocities. The combination of the honeycomb and the three mesh screens results in an efficient reduction in the flow disturbances. In addition, the flow stabilizer proves to have a good performance in the suppression of turbulence at a short distance.

This paper deals with the measurement and analysis on the scavenging performance of the oppet-valve type two-stroke engine with different shroud system. The scavenging flow characteristics is investigated by flow visualization under steady condition, in which a dye is introduced into single-cycle method using the difference of specific gravity between two working fluids is used to evaluate the scavenging efficiency and the trapping efficiency. The 90° shroud system was found to be the highest efficiency system through both flow visualization and single-cycle test, as well as the shroud system to generally be efficient for reducing a short-circuiting flow during scavenging process in a two-stoke engine.

This research was focused to apply response surface methodology for optimization of bio-methane production by biogas upgrading process. Methane concentration(Y1) and methane efficiency(Y2) on biogas upgrading process were mathematically described as being modeled by the use of the Box-Behnken design on response surface methodology. The results of ANOVA(analysis of variance) about models, the probability value of the methane concentration and methane recovery response surface model are 0.0001 and 0.0001, respectively and coefficient of determination($R^2$) are 0.9788 and 0.9710, respectively. The response surface model is proved of high reliability and suitability. The operation pressure had the greatest influence to methane concentration than other operation parameters and the PSA rotary valve velocity had the greatest influence to methane recovery than other operation parameters. Optimal condition of biogas upgrading process for production of $100Nm^3/hr$ bio-methane were operation pressure 8.0bar and outlet flow rate 31.55RPM, respectively. At that operation condition the methane concentration of bio-methane was 97.13% and methane recovery in biogas upgrading process was 75.89%.

To proportionally control the electronic valve position of the actuator, we designed and fabricated PCU, CPT, and rotary absolute optical encoder for the detection of absolute angular position in the actuator. We also designed and constructed the test system by using DAQ hardware and Labview. We designed PCU to convert 1-5 V, 0-5 V, 0-10 V, 2-10 V voltage signals and 4-20 mA current signals to the voltage signals in the common 0.5-2.5 V range. We designed CPT to output 4-20 mA current signals corresponding to the valve positions based on the PWM signal input from the MCU. We also designed 20 bit optical encoder by using infrared LED and infrared transistor and made the serial communication with the main board possible. When we tested PCU and CPT with DAQ hardware and Labview software, they operated correctly with the small errors within ${\pm}0.003$ V and ${\pm}0.01$ mA, respectively, showing that our actuator has the excellent performance to employ as the industrial proportional-valve-actuator. The resolution of the encoder was $11.25^{\circ}$ and the maximum revolution to detect was 32,768.

Free body diagram analysis is done for key parts of pilot stage of LLV (Load Limit Valve) which is used to protect overload for static structural test of aerospace flight vehicle. It is shown through the analysis that diameter ratio($D_2)^{ten}/D_2)^{comp}$) of two poppets in a pilot stage must be equal to piston area ratio($A_{comp}/A_{ten}$) of a hydraulic actuator for making a poppet open consistently at constant force applied by an actuator. The result of the analysis is verified by measuring geometries of the poppets in the four different LLVs which are corresponding to four actuators with different capacity and have been used after being imported in this laboratory. Results of "Adjuster resolution tests" with two different pilot stages show the max. deviation of Fi(actuator force in instant of opening poppet) from average Fi obtained for each turn of adjuster is 0.3KN and max. deviation of the Fi normalized by average Fi of each turn of adjuster is 3.7%. From the results, it is verified that the two pilot stages with same poppet diameter ratio make a poppet consistently open at Fis within ${\pm}3.7%$ deviation from the average Fi. The deviation is shown to be caused from frictional force of O-ring in the poppet. Additionally, design factors for poppet spring and adjuster, which are also key parts of the pilot stage, are distinguished and procedure for deciding the factors are also shown in this study.

In this research, we experimentally studied flow characteristic by applying PIV measuring techniques which could measure the point velocity of all flow field and measuring the unsteady velocity of surrounding disk generated in a short time. Time range of great velocity change following quick closing of the slide valve was within 0.1s and the cycle was presumed to be 0.12s as a result of comparison study between the result of point flow field and of existing pressure change. Also, surrounding disk flow inside the circular pipe was closed from the upper part and flow road was getting narrow and advanced to the lower part incidentally quickly there was a tendency that the size of the flow back velocity to the upper part immeadiately after the closure decreased to 4/120s and increased again. There was flow back velocity component in y/D=0.2 lower part by the influence of flow back to the upper part after complete closure and the vortex flow of 0.2D-size near y/D=0.7, x/D=-0.3 was observed.

In this study, a cold forging process was developed for the roller tappet housing of an engine valvetrain system. A tappet sample was manufactured and subjected to an endurance test. The material properties were obtained from a compression test, and forging analysis was carried out to design a forging process using a commercial program, Deform-3D. The forging process was set up based on the analysis results, and a die set and sample tappet housing were manufactured. To evaluate the sample, the dimensional accuracy, surface roughness, parallelism, and concentricity were measured and confirmed. To evaluate the actuation and durability, a special test rig was developed to simulate the valvetrain system of the engine. An actuation test was performed based on the idle speed of a general diesel engine, and an endurance test was done based on the maximum speed. The results show minor wear of 0.002 mm. The developed test rig will be used to evaluate the actuation and durability of other valvetrain parts.

The electric actuator receives the user's command input signal (open/closed/stop), checks the status of various sensors (valve position, rotational force, motor status, etc.)in the actuator, and controls the motor forward/reverse to open and close the valve. It is a device that outputs the current state of an actuator (valve) and is used in various fields such as dams, power plants, water and sewage facilities, and oil pipeline facilities. If an electric actuator is installed in a power plant and a problem occurs during operation, it can cause a large economic loss, so system reliability is vert important. In this study, in order to increase the safety of the electric actuator, the development of an electric actuator control device capable of setting the ON/OFF time in hardware was conducted to solve the reliability problem that may occur in software. In addition, the electric actuator control device development environment was developed using Xilinx's Spartan7 FPGA and Altium tool.
