Studies on the Performance of a Cam Driving Electronic Expansion Valve for Vehicles (캠구동 방식을 적용한 자동차 공조시스템용 전자팽창밸브의 성능에 관한 연구)

  • Air conditioning part designs are moving towards higher efficiency and productivity. The expansion device is one of the core parts of an air conditioning system and controls the refrigerant quantity, evaporation load, compression capacity, and condensation capacity. In this study, an electronic expansion valve for two working fluids ($CO_2$ and R134a) was developed for air conditioning systems in vehicles. The valve uses an eccentric cam driving structure instead of a lead screw to decrease manufacturing costs and increase productivity. The pressure resistance and flow rate performance was evaluated using numerical analysis. At maximum operation conditions and burst pressure conditions with $CO_2$, the maximum stresses on the valve model were about 98 MPa and 223 MPa, respectively. The maximum flow rates of $CO_2$ and R134a with different orifice openings were about 550 kg/h and 386 kg/h, respectively. The performance with R134a was verified by experiments.

Optimal valve installation of water distribution network considering abnormal water supply scenarios (비정상 물공급 시나리오를 고려한 상수도관망 최적 밸브위치 결정)

  • Valve in water distribution network (WDN), that controls the flow in pipes, is used to isolate a segment (a part of WDN) under abnormal water supply conditions (e.g., pipe breakage, water quality failure event). The segment isolation degrades pressure and water serviceability in neighboring area during the water service outage of the segment. Recent hydraulic and water quality failure events reported encouraging WDN valve installation based on various abnormal water supply scenarios. This study introduces a scenario-based optimal valve installation approach to optimize the number of valves, the amount of undelivered water, and a shortest water supply path indicator (i.e., Hydraulic Geodesic Index). The proposed approach is demonstrated in the valve installation of Pescara network, and the optimal valve sets are obtained under multiple scenarios and compared to the existing valve set. Pressure-driven analysis (PDA) scheme is used for a network hydraulic simulation. The optimal valve set derived from the proposed method has 19 fewer valves than the existing valve set in the network and the amount of undelivered water was also lower for the optimal valve set. Reducing the reservoir head requires a greater number of valves to achieve the similar functionality of the WDN with the optimal valve set of the original reservoir head. This study also compared the results of demand-driven analysis (DDA) and the PDA and confirmed that the latter is required for optimal valve installation.

Durability Evaluation on the Air-Braking Release Failure Proof Valve of Cargo Train (화물열차 공기제동 완해불량 방지 밸브의 내구성 평가)

  • Cargo train braking uses the pressure changes in the air braking pipe to operate the braking tightening and releasing service repeatedly. Air-braking release failure means partial braking caused by a failure of the variable load valve after the driver handling the brake release. This phenomenon causes wheel flaws while driving a wagon, resulting in wheel breakage or train derailment. This study developed the air-braking release failure proof valve considering the technical requirements of the railway operation corporations. In addition, a durability test of the valve was carried out using a braking performance simulator, and its operating performance was evaluated from the pneumatic history under cyclic braking conditions. The warranty life of this valve was assessed by performing 160,000 cycles of testing of 12 prototypes in accordance with the zero-failure test method, considering the number of braking cycles while driving the wagon. During the durability test, the pneumatic input time, output time, and release velocity were almost constant. The warranty life of this valve was 59,860 times the 95% confidence level, which means that it can be operated without trouble for four years when the valve is installed in the bogie of the wagon.

Study on Performance Improvement for Solenoid Valve Cleaner for Automatic Transmission (자동변속기 솔레노이드 밸브 세척기의 성능 향상에 관한 연구)

  • Solenoid valve cleaner is used for clean the solenoid valve in automatic transmission for a car when it is clogged with transmission oil sludge. Nevertheless when the solenoid is turned off, the residual current in the solenoid coil makes slow motion of the plunger in the solenoid which makes lower in cleansing performance and speed. In this paper, the method of performance Improvement for solenoid valve cleaner is proposed. The residual current in the solenoid coil is eliminated rapidly by the proposed method and it improves the cleansing performance and speed. The experimental results show the validity of the reposed method.

  • Check valves developed for aerospace applications and commercially available for the applications are investigated. The examples include the ones for launch vehicles, SSME (Space Shuttle Main Engine) and GSE (Ground Support Equipment) purges developed by NASA, requiring high reliability, and the ones by KARI. Also the commercial ones for room and cryogenic temperatures by major valve US companies. Relations of design factors such as seal materials and spring rate to principal performances like operating temperature/pressure and cracking pressure are explained. Then potential operational problems such as chatter and contaminations are explained. Also, filters, fittings for end connections and cleanliness requirements for the applications are considered.

  • In this Study, another way to accomplish the goal of meeting large steam-flow requirements is the use of multiple valves. Multiple valves can provide better control in meeting the precision pressure controller requirements. Simulation demonstrates the effectiveness of the pressure controller. The key point of this study is to precisely control the position of the control valve on the outside of the electro-hydraulic system using a special PID controller. Simulation and experiments verify the performance of the controller.

고층 아파트의 최적 열공급 시스템

  • 이 글에서는 고충아파트에서 층간 열공급의 불균일성이 발생하는 원인을 설명하였고 이 불균일 성을 해소시키는 새로운 열공급 설비 기술을 설명하였으며 그 내용들에 대한 결론은 다음과 같다. (1) 온수 난방 고층아파트의 층간 열공급의 불균일성은 온수공급관과 회수관의 정수압력의 차 이에 의한 유동저항에 의해서 발생한다. (2) 다구역배관망 시스템은 온수공급관과 회수관의 정수압력의 차이에 의해 발생하는 열공급 불균일성의 해소에 거의 기여하지 못한다. (3) 연속난방방식에서 서모스타트의 설치는 각세대의 열공급을 균일하게 할 수 있고 에너지 절 약면에서 가장 유리한 방식이나 고장의 위험성이 가장 크며, 운전의 미숙에 의한 열공급 제어의 불균일성을 초래하기 쉬우며 외기온도가 매우 낮으면 층간 열공급제어가 되지 않을 수 있어서 자동유량조절밸브를 병용하거나 온수공급압력을 충분히 크게 할 필요가 있다. (4) 자동유량조절밸브에 부착하면 단구역 배관망 시스템에서도 층간의 유량공급의 불균일성을 없앨 수 있으나 순환 펌프유량이 부족하면 밸브의 자동유량조절 기능이 상실된다. (5) 수동유량조절밸브는 TAB에 의해서 충간의 유량을 균일하게 조절할 수 있으나 펌프 성능변화 관부식 등이 발생하면 TAB를 다시 할 필요가 발생할 수 있다. 그러나 밸브의 고장이 적고 유 동저항을 적게 발생시키며 한 개의 밸브로 조절할 수 있는 유량의 범위가 큰 점에서는 가장 유 리하다.

  • Direct acting pressure relief valve applicable to propellant tank of launch vehicle is modeled in this study The flow resistance of the partially opened valve is modeled as a function of the distance of the valve stem from the resting position. The position of the valve varies transiently as a function of its mass, the spring force, sliding friction, and the pressure differential. Choking at valve throat and compressibility are considered for the analysis. This study presents systematic analysis method for pressure relief valve applicable to propellant tank of liquid rocket. The results shows transient flow resistance caused by stem motion and the importance of choking at valve throat for pressure relief valve design.

  • MOV(Main Oxidizer shut-off Valves) control the combustion of launch vehicle systems by the supply and the isolation of liquid oxygen to a main combustion chamber in launch vehicle systems. Moreover, the MOV should secure a constant flow rate of liquid oxygen for combustion instability in the steady operational state. Although it has been showed that a EM(Engineering Model) with a high discharge coefficient value compared with the TM(Technology Model) fills the overall performance requirements, additional design modifications in some critical parts of the EM were conducted to improve the performance. The configurations of the pressure-control body, the middle flange, and the rips of the inlet body of the EM were modified and the performance tests have been performed with test models. Consequently, the intended improvements have been verified by the performance tests.

  • In this paper, we have implemented an overflow valve for EURO5 Type and the performance evaluation system based on IEEE802 protocol. On injecting a diesel oil into an engine, it is necessity for an overflow valve that can sustain an engine oil status in front of the engine. In order to evaluate the performance of overflow valve, we need the leak test system with IT. The leak test system checks the pressure, switching time and operating time.
