  • The aim of this research is designing road lighting installations(arrangement, mounting height spacing and overhang) which produce a certain level and distribution of luminance together with minimal glare. These can be varied over a limited range for a given luminance and road surface to achieve the required installation performance. In Korea there are no code of practice which lays down recommended performance criteria (Lavg, Uo, Ul, G, TI) with practical design guidance on how to achieve them. In case study design rules and current installation of road lighting in daegu city are analysed. The core of research are suggesting a new performance criteria and providing a set of table giving the maximum lognitudinal spacing between successive luminaires. The result of this research prescribes the combination of height and spacing for various road widths and arrangements which will achieve a specified minimum performance on straigt roads for particular luminaire and a particular road surf-ace.

  • New layout methods for implementing MOS switches of ultra low channel resistance are presented. These area-effective layout methods include the waffle structure, zipper structure, star zag structure and fingered waffle structure. The design equations for these new layout structures are analyzed. The area-effectiveness of these structures is compared with that of the conventional alternating bar structure. MOS switches of the waffle structure were fabricated using a standard 0.25um CMOS process. The experimental characterization results of the fabricated MOS switches are presented. The analytical comparison and experimental results show that area reductions over 40% are achievable with the new structures.

  • The design of experiments are used for optimal design of formed tools to machine automobile bearing rubber seal die, which is classified into the high precision rubber mold. The clearance angle, rake angle and the length cutting edge are considered as the factors. The cutting force is selected to be a characteristic value and compared with the mean tool wear and life by repeated experiments. The design of the experiment is based on the repeated one-way factorial design, which finds the significance of the factors and the best level to predict the tool life by using ANOVA and regression.

  • Average torque of PMa-SynRM(Permanent Magnet-assisted Synchronous Reluctance Motor) is changed by magnet form inserted to the barrier. Because the magnet form influences to the magnet-torque and reluctance torque. Therefore, this paper present a suitable permanent magnet form design for maximum torque when the magnet quantites are always fixed. And each motor characteristic such as average torque, torque ripple, cogging torque and back-EMF are analyzed by FEM(Finite Element Method) for optimal design..

  • In the two-mass system driving a load through a flexible shaft or transmission system, a shaft torsional vibration is often generated. In this case, it's difficult to control only by conventional PI controller. To solve this problem. the two-mass speed control system with PID controller is designed by using pole assignment method, and an optimum PID parameters are derived by evaluating ITAE(Integral of time multiplied by the absolute error) performance index. Simulation results show the validity of the proposed PID controller and this controller is compared with the conventional PID controller.

  • In this paper, we present a method for the analysis and design of fuzzy controller for nonlinear systems. In the design procedure, we represent the dynamics of nonlinear systems using a Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy model and formulate the controller rules, which shares the same fuzzy sets with the fuzzy system, using parallel distributed compensation method. Then, after the feedback gain of each local state feedback controller is obtained using the existing optimal pole-placement scheme, we construct an overall fuzzy logic controller by blending all local state feedback controller. Finally, the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed fuzzy-model-based controller design method has been evaluated through an inverted pendulum system.

  • This paper proposes a stabilizing method against landslide using slide suppressor wall reinforced with soil nails. Included are a procedure to predict earth pressures acting on the concrete panel and a method of analysis of stabilizing pile. Based on the proposed procedure, the efficient installation type and inclusion angle of nails are analyzed. Also, optimum location of the slide suppressor wall composed of concrete panel and stabilizing pile is analyzed. Finally the comparison with a method proposed by Wright is made, and the effect of interactions between stabilizing piles is examined, throughout the design example.

  • This study proposes an improved genetic algorithm (GA) to derive solutions for facility layout problems having inner walls and passages. The proposed algorithm models the layout of facilities on a flour-segmented chromosome. Improved solutions are produced by employing genetic operations known as selection, crossover, inversion, mutation, and refinement of these genes for successive generations. All relationships between the facilities and passages are represented as an adjacency graph. The shortest path and distance between two facilities are calculated using Dijkstra's algorithm of graph theory. Comparative testing shows that the proposed algorithm performs better than other existing algorithm for the optimal facility layout design. Finally, the proposed algorithm is applied to ship compartment layout problems with the computational results compared to an actual ship compartment layout.

  • Major equipment of combat vessels normally require the shock and vibration isolation to maintain its performance against environments of severe vibration and shock. In this paper, an optimal layout design method of resilient mounts for shock and vibration isolation is presented using simulated annealing optimization method. The reference levels of vibration and shock to isolate shipboard equipment are determined from the MIL-STD-167-1 and MIL-S-901 specifications. Through the numerical application, the validity of the presented method is investigated.
