A Study on Urban Driving Pattern (실 도로 주행 특성에 대한 연구)

  • The durability prediction of emission control components, especially 02 sensor and catalytic converter, is getting more important as emission regulation is getting stricter and vehicle durability mileage requirement is also extended from 80,000 ㎞ to 160,000 km in Korean market. And the duration of vehicle mileage accumulation to get vehicle exhaust emission deterioration factor for certification is required to be shorter in order to reduce the vehicle development time. Since most of the vehicle emission development tests are done on chassis dynamometer and aging bench by using vehicle aging modes, real road condition and in-use driving patterns must be reflected into them to predict the vehicle emission level and to meet emission regulation especially at high mileage. In order to get the frequent driving pattern of vehicle and the aging characteristic of emission components, a vehicle was tested by changing drivers and driving roads around Seoul. Real road driving patterns were analyzed and compared with those of the certification modes which are well known in automotive industry.

  • Continuous oil price rising and the regulation of carbon emmission makes companies to have higher competitiveness. because of this trend, companies are trying to establish and manage efficient logistics system to improve customer service and reduce cost, so more competitive logistics complex is needed. To construct this kind of logistics complex, proper policy and logistics system for transportation is necessary. Especially, efficient operation through establishing system of logistics at the complex is very important for low cost and environmental friendly point of view. So this paper presents logistics network operation model for efficient transportation, especially approaches the problem with Multi-Phase.

NOx Conversion Efficiency of SCR Diesel Vehicle Under Cold Start Condition (냉간 시동 조건에서의 SCR 경유자동차의 NOx 전환 효율)

  • Recently, The ministry of Environment in korea have introduced Euro-6d temp which was strengthened at the same time as Europe. Small Light-duty passenger vehicles need the SCR system of after-treatment to meet enhanced emission regulations. However, SCR system has a low conversion efficiency in a low temperature less than 200 degree. In this study, the NOx conversion efficiency of SCR system was analyzed by installing a NOx sensors and a temperature sensors in a diesel vehicle. Also, in order to analyze the effect of the cold-start, the test was performed on the same RDE route and compared with the test of hot-start. As a result, SCR system has characteristics of low conversion efficiency under cold-start conditions.

  • Emissions of diesel vehicles have been regulated by NEDC mode for a long time. However, the NEDC mode has been known the control of emission reduction is not reflected properly on actual road conditions. For these reasons, diesel vehicle emissions are regulated in both NEDC mode and WLTC mode from 2017 to 2020, from 2020 onwards, the emissions of diesel vehicles will measure in WLTC mode only and will not be able to exceed 1.5 times the regulated value. The purpose of this study is to analyze the development trend of diesel vehicle after-treatment system in order to comply with the future regulations on diesel vehicle. As a result, it is essential to reduce the NOx emissions of diesel vehicles for Euro 6, the NOx emissions of the test vehicle equipped with SCR were 30% to 50% loss than the test vehicle equipped with LNT despite the higher curb weight and engine displacement.

  • 최근 실내 공기질(IAQ; indoor air quality)을 악화시키는 물질 중 하나인 이산화탄소 저감 연구가 다수 진행되고 있다. 현재 이산화탄소를 저감하는 방법에는 흡착법, 흡수법, 막분리법 등이 있다. 그 중 흡수법은 액체 상태의 흡수제를 분사하는 공정 특성상 실내에 적용하기 어렵고 2차 오염물 또는 폐수가 발생할 수 있다. 또한, 막분리법은 이산화탄소 분리를 위한 응집 및 침전과 같은 전처리 과정이 필요하므로 실내 이산화탄소 저감에 적합하지 않다. 반면, 흡착법은 비교적 저렴하고 운영이 간단하여 적용 사례가 증가하였으며, 유동 인구가 많고 환기가 어려운 지하철, 버스 등의 대중교통 차량 내부 및 교실, 사무실, 공공시설에서 배출되는 실내 이산화탄소를 제어할 수 있다는 장점이 있어 가장 적합한 해결책으로 알려져 있다. 흡착 공정에 사용되는 대표적인 흡착제 종류에는 활성탄, 제올라이트, 알루미나 등이 있으며, 이 흡착제들을 개질 및 성형하여 흡착제의 성능 및 기계적 강도를 증진시키는 고도화 연구가 활발히 수행되고 있다. 이처럼 적용 대상 내 설치 및 교체가 용이하도록 하는 흡착제 제조 기술 개발이 필요한 실정이며, 흡착제를 상용화 수준까지 발전시킴으로써 강화된 실내 공기질 규제 기준에 대한 대응 및 삶의 질 향상이 기대된다.

Characteristics of organic pollutants in discharged industrial waste in Korea - Focuse on metallic and plastic manufacturing processes and wastewater treatment plants - (국내 사업장 폐기물 중 유기오염물질의 배출특성 연구 - 금속과 플라스틱 제조공정 및 폐수처리시설 중심으로 -)

  • In this study, PCDD/PCDFs, PAHs and PCBs in wastes from metal, plastic and wastewater treatment facilities were analyzed. The concentrations of PCDD/PCDFs ranged from 7.37~432.20 ng-TEQ/kg in fly ash, 0.51~855.01 ng-TEQ/kg in incinerated ash and 0.37~385.81 ng-TEQ/kg in dust. Dioxin content was lower, compared to data in foreign countries. PAHs concentration was in the range of 0.0075~2.9225 mg/kg for process sludge and 0.0035~1.6716 mg/kg for wastewater sludge, which satisfied all of the two standards (Nap, Ant, B(a)F:4/0.8, Phen, B(a)A:5/1, Flt:10/2.5, B(a)P:4.5/0.9) of the Marine Environment Management Act. PAHs concentration in process sludge and wastewater sludge were slightly lower than those abroad. According to the analysis of seven types of PCBs (in comparison with the first standard, 0.15 mg/kg), concentration was found in the range of 0.0~0.65 mg/kg, while PCB-52, PCB-101, PCB-138, PCB-153 and PCB-180 isomers were detected in excessive value in some machine oil and hydraulic fluid.

  • Black carbon (BC) contained in particulate matter (PM) originating from the exhaust gases of ships' diesel engines has been receiving great attention as a cause of glacial melting and warming in the polar regions. In this study, we took samples from various locations of PM emitted from the training ship (T/S) HANBADA's main engine, in cooperation with the Korea Maritime and Ocean University. We analyzed the structure and characteristics of these samples using high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM) and applied our findings as fundamental research for developing PM reduction technology. We also employed our results to determine appropriate preemptive action to meet upcoming PM/BC regulations. In addition, we confirmed the emission trend of pollutants from exhaust gases under various engine operating conditions using an exhaust gas analyzer. Results obtained from the analysis of HR-TEM images showed that the structure of the PM is chain-like wispy agglomerates consisting of a number of individual spherical particles. As the sampling location was moved away from the turbo charger (T/C) towards the funnel, more condensates were observed at a low temperature and the molecular structure of the PM lost its characteristic BC structure as an amorphous structure gradually appeared. Furthermore, through the analysis of exhaust gases, we predicted a decrease in PM concentration in the exhaust stream as engine rpm increase.

[$CO_2$] Emission from Carbon of Marine Fuel Oil in New Ships (신조선에서 연료탄소로부터의 $CO_2$ 배출 특성)

  • This study dealt with the measurement of exhausted gas concentration, the estimation of a combustion efficiency, and the review of IMO indexing. We concentrated on establishing the basic data to take a counterplan coping with $CO_2$ regulations. The average combustion efficiency was 98% in shop test of new engines and 96.5% in sea trial test of new ships, respectively. It would become lower for the old engine or/and ship. High combustion efficiency results in high $CO_2$ emission and low combustion efficiency results in high emission of incomplete combustion products. The efficient method reducing $CO_2$ emission without an increase in noxious air pollutants would be the development of a substitute fuel and the fuel-efficient and economical engine, and the fair play among shipping agencies in a ship speed. In reviewing of IMO indexing, it is necessary to begin by analyzing the carbon content of a marine fuel for a precise estimates.

The Study on the Combustion and Ash Deposition Characteristics of Ash Free Coal and Residue Coal in a Drop Tube Furnace (DTF를 이용한 무회분 석탄과 잔탄의 연소 및 회 점착 특성에 관한 연구)

  • Recently, much research has been put into finding the causes and solutions of slagging/fouling problems that occur at the end of the boiler. This slagging/fouling, caused by low-rank coal's ash, disturbs the thermal power and greatly reduces efficiency. In environmental aspects, such as NOx pollution, governments have been implementing restrictions on the quantity of emission gases that can be released into the atmosphere. To solve these problems, research on Ash Free Coal (AFC), which eliminates ash from low-rank coal, is in progress. AFC has advantages over similar high-rank coals because it increases the heating value of the low grade coal, reduces the contaminants that are emitted, and decreases slagging/fouling problems. In this study, using a DTF, the changes of NOx emissions, unburned carbon, and the characteristics of ash deposition were identified. KCH raw coal, AFC extracted from KCH, residue coal, Glencore, and Mixed Coal (Glencore 85wt% and residue coal 15wt%) were studied. Results showed that AFC had a significantly lower emission of NOx compared to that of the raw coal and residue coal. Also, the residue coal showed a higher reactivity compared to raw coal. And finally, In the case of the residue coal and mixed coal, they showed a lower ash deposition than that of low-rank coal.

Analysis of Water Quality improvement of Upper Stream for the Chung-ju Dam according to Reducing Pollution Using QUAL2E Model (QUAL2E 모형을 이용한 오염원변화에 따른 충주댐 상류 유역의 수질 개선 효과 분석)

  • The research grasps water quality contamination source by investigating the data that are superordinate laws and the related plans implemented for establishing water quality improvement measures of upper stream for Chung-Ju Dam, present conditions of the hydraulic and hydrology, the present conditions and plans of environment basic facilities, and present conditions of main contamination source's occurrence load and discharge load, etc. The research used the QUAL2E simulation which is being widely applied to simulation of river water quality because the QUAL2E has high credibility among water quality simulations known throughout the country. On basis of this research, regulations and politic alternatives are required in order to water quality improvement upper stream for the Chung-ju dam, especially establishing processing facilities in the region where loading amount is concentrated should be considered with the additional research regarding cost-efficient facility of pollution source.
