Forecasting the Effects of Korea-China FTA on Korean Industrial Exports and CO2 Emissions (한·중 FTA에 따른 산업부문별 수출 변화와 CO2 배출량 변화 예측)

  • This paper measures the impacts of the Korea-China Free Trade Agreement (FTA) on the emissions of carbon dioxide ($CO_2$) in Korean export industries. The Korean industrial exports were forecasted by employing Bayesian Kalman Filter Vector Auto-Regression (BVAR) model. The emissions of $CO_2$ were then estimated by applying the $CO_2$ emission coeffcients on the conditionally forecasted values of export by industries. Under the conditional scenario of the 50% reduction in current tariff rate through FTA between Korea and China, the total $CO_2$ emissions in Korea were expected to increase by 1.96% compared to the BAU (Non FT A) trend at the end of 2010. Another conditional scenario with no tariff after 2012 was also adopted. In this case, the total $CO_2$ emlssions were estimated to increase by 2.06% compared to the BAU up until the end of 2014. These facts imply that the FTA between Korea and China would not result in the significant increase of $CO_2$ emissions in Korea.

  • 염색폐수의 정화에는 필연적으로 다량의 슬러지 폐기물이 발생한다. 염색폐수 슬러지는 그간 인근 공해 해상에 투기하는 해양 배출로 저렴하게 처리하였으나, 해양오염을 우려하는 국제협약(1972년 런던협약, 1996년 교토의정서)에 의하여 2008년 8월부터 배출기준이 강화되고 2012년 2월부터는 해양배출이 금지 될 예정이다. 염색폐수 슬러지의 해양 배출이 금지되면 대체 처리방법으로는 지정매립장을 통한 매립처리 방법이나 고온 소각시설에서의 소각처리 방법이 거론되고 있다. 그러나 매립처리는 슬러지 내 함유 수분으로 인한 침출수의 문제와 더불어 장기간 안정적으로 저렴하게 사용할 수 있는 대규모 처분장을 확보하기 어려운 실정이며 소각처리는 슬러지의 높은 함수율로 인해 소각 시보조 연료의 투입이 필연적으로 최근 원유가 급등 등 에너지 비용이 지속적으로 상승함을 고려할 때 소각처리비용 또한 상당한 고가가 될 것으로 예측된다. 이와 같이 슬러지 해양배출이 금지되면 섬유 염색업체들은 많은 환경비용 부담을 안을 것이다. 본 연구에서는 대규모 염색산업단지 공동폐수처리장에서 발생하는 염색폐수 슬러지의 효율적인 건조를 위해 산업단지 내의 열병합발전소에서 발생하는 보일러 폐열을 이용하였으며, 조건 특성 및 효율을 파악하기 위해 보일러 폐열의 특성을 고려하여 슬러지 두께 및 체류시간 등 건조공정 운영조건에 따른 변수별 연구를 수행하였다. 열병합발전소 보일러에서 배출되는 폐열은 온도가 $150^{\circ}C$ 정도로 기존의 슬러지 건조에서는 사용되는 $700^{\circ}C$에 비해서는 매우 저온이다. 하지만 보일러 배가스의 경우, 온도에 비해 많은 풍량을 가지고 있으므로 열량으로 환산시 충분히 가치가 있는 것으로 조사되었다. 염색폐수 슬러지의 경우, 함수율 70% 이내의 탈수 Cake 형태이므로 두께가 두꺼울수록 건조효율이 감소하였으며, 체류시간이 길어질수록 건조효율은 증가하나 20mm 이상에서는 건조효율이 급격히감소하였다. 이를 바탕으로 5톤/일 규모 슬러지 건조 Pilot Plant를 제작하여 운영하였는데, 염색폐수슬러지의 투입공정에서 슬러지와 열풍의 접촉면적을 넓혀 건조효율을 높이기 위하여 슬러지를 압출노즐을 이용하여 슬라이스 칩 형태로 제조하여 건조공정에 투입하였으며, 건조실 내에서도 건조효율의 상승을 위하여 내부열풍순환팬을 설치하여 운영하였다. Pilot 운영결과, 체류시간 52분에서 슬러지의 함수율은 70%에서 10%이하로 감소하였다.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate and compare the impact of engine load on the emission characteristics of excavator engines, with the aim of improving the method for calculating the emission inventory of construction machinery. The engine load in excavators is directly correlated with the operational workload, and variations in the load factor (LF) can significantly influence the emission inventory. Thus, on-board diagnostic (OBD) data from an excavator at a construction site were systematically collected to measure engine output and emissions. The results revealed discernible differences in emissions based on engine load, even when the average excavator engine performance remained constant. This highlights the significant influence of the type and characteristics of the work being carried out on emission characteristics. Making realistic adjustments to the LF used in emission calculation formulas emerges as a crucial strategy for environmental improvement. Moreover, the analysis of the effects of engine load on emissions from excavators provides valuable insights for enhancing environmental protection measures.

Effect of Aeration Rates on Emissions of Oxygen and Sulfur compound gases during Composting of Dairy Manure (우분(牛糞) 퇴비화시(堆肥花時) 공기주입률(空氣注入率)이 산소 및 황화합물 가스 배출(排出)에 미치는 영향(影響))

  • This experiment used the enclosed bench-scale reactors was conducted to find out optimal aeration rate for reducing the emission of odors and producing the good-quality compost with the mixture of dairy manure and rice straw. The reactors with gas sampler were aerated at four different rates of 0.09, 0.18, 0.90 and $1.79l\;min^{-1}kg^{-1}$dry solids for 574 hours. The oxygen content within composting pile instantly decreased after aeration. Oxygen limitation(below 15%) in the treatments of $0.90l\;min^{-1}kg^{-1}$ and less was exponentially negative relationship with aeration rates and in the range of 35 to 300 hours after aeration. However, the treatment of $1.79l\;min^{-1}kg^{-1}$ didn't show the oxygen limitation. The oxygen consumption rate and the cumulative amount of oxygen consumed by different aeration rates was ranged in $0.80{\sim}1.57O_2g\;h^{-1}\;kg^{-1}VS^{-1}$, $460{\sim}900O_2g\;kg^{-1}VS^{-1}$, respectively, and they were high in the order of 0.90, 1.79, 0.18, $0.09l\;min^{-1}kg^{-1}$. The maximum oxygen consumption rate was estimated in the range of $1.2{\sim}1.3lmin^{-1}kg^{-1}$. The emission concentrations of sulfur compounds such as hydrogen sulfide, sulfur dioxide and methylmercaptan were remarkably high in the initial composting time. Then they were rapidly decreased with the passing of composting time and clearly with increasing aeration rates. Their average concentrations were in the range of 0.03~2.18, 0~0.50, $0.07{\sim}3.38mg\;kg^{-1}$, respectively and high in the order of methylmercaptan, hydrogen sulfide, and sulfur dioxide. Concentrations of sulfur compounds emitted from composting showed exponentially negative relationship at 1% statistically with the oxygen concentration. It was estimated that hydrogen sulfide and methylmercaptan suddenly increased in the level of 5% oxygen concentration and below, that they were little emitted in 15% and over but sulfur dioxide was emitted in the level of 20% oxygen.

  • This study estimates baseline greenhouse gas emissions from transport sector when a new town is developed. It has adopted a general greenhouse gas estimation model developed by Schipper, celine, Roger(2000) for the estimation, and showed how various transport related statistics can be utilized in detail. Particularly, it has produced unit greenhouse gas emission factor per vehicle types, vehicle-km, and trip-km. To evaluate effects of greenhouse gas reduction policies, it has calculated how much emissions will be reduced from bicycle promotion. It has turned out that about 369 thousand tons of carbon dioxide will be emitted from transport sector once the 1st Geomdan New Town is developed in Incheon metropolitan city. If the policy of bicycle promotion can attract people to use bicycle as much as 5% of total trips, then it can reduce about 1,869 tons of carbon dioxide.

Review of the Estimation Method of Methane Emission from Waste Landfill for Korean Greenhouse Gas and Energy Target Management System (온실가스·에너지 목표관리제를 위한 폐기물 매립시설 메탄배출량의 적정 산정방법에 관한 고찰)

  • To promote the carbon emission trading scheme and reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emission as following 'Korean GHG & Energy Target Management System', GHG emissions should be accurately determined in each industrial sector. For the estimation method of GHG emission from waste landfill, there are several error parameters, therefore we reviewed the estimation method and proposed a revised method. Methane generation from landfill must be calculated by the selected method based on methane recovery rate, 0.75. However, this methodology is not considered about uncertainty factor. So it is desirable that $CH_4$ generation is estimated using first order decay model and methane recovery should use field monitoring data. If not, $CH_4$ recovery could be applied from other study results; 0.60 of operational landfill with gas vent and flaring system, 0.65 of operational site with landfill gas recovery system, 0.90 of closed landfill with final cover. Other parameters such as degradable organic carbon (DOC) and fraction of DOC decompose ($DOC_f$) need to derive the default value from studies to reflect a Korean waste status. Proper application of MCF that is selected by operation and management of landfill requires more precise criteria.

Removal of Radiostrontium ($^{85}Sr$) from the Rat by Water Soluble Chitosan (수용성 카이토산에 의한 체내 방사성스트론튬의 제거)

  • Chitosan is known to be one of the natural chelating agents. It is derived from chitin which is a cellulose-like biopolymer distributed widely in nature, especially in shellfish, insects, fungi, and yeast. There are two forms of chitosans, water soluble and insoluble, The purpose of the present study is to investigate whether water soluble chitosan can be applied to reduce the bioabailability of radios-trontium in foods. We compared the effect of water soluble and insoluble chitosans on the absorption of ingested radiostrontium ($^{85}Sr$). Three percent water soluble and insoluble chitosan solutions were given orally, and immediately after $^{85}SrCl_2$ ($0.2{\mu}Ci$) was administered to rats using a orogastric tube. In one group water soluble chitosan solution was given for additional 4 days. And in control group no chitosan was given. Each group consisted of 6 rats. The whole-body retention of $^{85}Sr$, determined by in vivo counting method, was lower in water soluble chitosan group than that of water insoluble chitosan group and that of control. Urinary excretion of $^{85}Sr$ in chitosan-treated rats was higher than that of control. And 5 day ingested group of water soluble chitosan showed least whole body retention of $^{85}Sr$. In conclusion water soluble chitosan was more effective in reducing bioavailability of ingested radiostrontium in the gastrointestinal tract than insoluble chitosan.

전기분해에 의한 양식장배출수의 유기물질 및 암모니아 제거 특성

  • 본 연구에서는 전기분해에 의한 양식장 배출수중의 유기물질 및 암모니아를 전류밀도, 전극간격에 따른 제거 특성을 살펴보았다. 전극간격 및 전류밀도에 따른 제거효율은 전극간격이 가까울수록, 전류밀도가 클수록 제거효율은 증가하였다 유기물질은 107.5A/$m^2$의 전류밀도에서 반응기 체류시간 8분동안 98.5%, 암모니아는 전류밀도를 107.15A/$m^2$로 유지하고, 간격을 변화시키면서 반응기 체류시간 120sec동안 암모니아의 제거율을 보면 92.6%의 제거효율을 나타내었다.

  • 유럽을 포함한 많은 선진국들은 자동차 배기가스에 대한 환경규제를 만족하기 위해서 노력을 하고 있다. 가솔린 엔진에 비해서 문제가 되는 디젤엔진에서 배출되는 배기가스 즉 질소 산화물과 입자상 물질을 저감하려는 노력은 꾸준히 진행되고 있다. 본 논문은 11,000cc 대형 터보 디젤엔진에 배기가스 순환장치를 설치하여 질소산화물을 효과적으로 저감하는 기술을 개발하고자한다.
