수소-천연가스를 이용한 중대형 동력시스템 이용기술 개발에 관한 연구

  • 천연가스차량이 배출하는 미연 탄화수소 중 약 80%이상이 메탄으로 구성 되어있다. 메탄은 그 자체로 유독성 물질은 아니지만 이산화탄소와 더불어 지구온난화를 유발하는 온실가스로 향후 강력한 규제가 예상되는 물질로 이를 저감하는 기술 개발이 이루어져야하나 연료 특성상 이를 줄이는데 어려움이 있다. 최근 연구에 의하면 천연가스엔진에 수소를 일정량(15%이상) 첨가할 경우 배출가스 및 성능 이 상당량 개선되는 결과를 보이고 있다. 이는 종래 천연가스 연소의 문제점인 지연된 화염 전파 속도를 수소 연료를 첨가함에 따라 화염 전파속도를 촉진시켜 적정한 연소를 야기 시켜 미연탄화수소 배출이 줄어들고 열효율도 향상되는 결과를 보이고 있다. 이와 같이 수소와 천연가스연료의 각각의 장점을 활용한 Hy-thane 엔진을 개발할 경우 무공해엔진에 근접한 초 저공해 동력장치 개발이 가능하며 이에 대한 상용화 측면에서 산업용 발전기, GEHP, 차량용 엔진 등 활용도가 크기 때문에 그 개발이 절실히 필요하다고 할 수 있다. 따라서 본 과제에서는 이중연료를 사용하는 수소-천연가스 기관을 개발하고 이를 효과적으로 제어할 수 있는 제어시스템을 개발하여, 기관효율 향상과 배기가스저감을 이루었다.

  • As the interest on the air pollution is gradually rising up at home and abroad, automotive and fuel researchers have been working on the exhaust emission reduction from vehicles through a lot of approaches, which consist of new engine design, innovative after-treatment systems, using clean (eco-friendly alternative) fuels and fuel quality improvement. This research has brought forward various main issues : whether PM emissions should be regulated for diesel and gasoline vehicles and whether gasoline and LPG powered vehicles can be further neglected from PM emission inventories. Finally, the greenhouse gas regulation has been discussed including automotive emission regulation. The greenhouse gas and emissions of automotive had many problem that cause of ambient pollution, health effects. Based on various test modes and ambient conditions, this paper discusses the characteristics of LPG on exhaust emissions and greenhouse gases. Also, this paper assessed emission characteristics due to the test temperature. These test temperature were performed by dividing the temperature of the test mode and the lowest local temperature in winter. Through this study, the correlation of vehicle test mode and ambient condition, exhaust emission, greenhouse gas emission was analyzed.

  • 이미 알려진 바와 같이 차세대 차량에 채용될 동력 시스템의 연구개발이 배출가스 규제에 대한 배기 성능의 획기적 개선에 집중되고 있는 한편, 포괄적 친환경 차량 개발 또한 일반의 관심을 끌고 있다. 현재에 이르기까지 배출가스 규제치 즉, 대기로 배출되는 질소산화물(NOx), 입자상물질(Particulate Matter, PM) 및 미연탄화수소 등에 대한 정량적 규제치의 만족여부가 차량의 친환경 여부를 가리는 척도로 주로 인식되어 왔으나, 금후 보다 본격적으로 완성차량 조립을 위한 전 제품의 제조과정으로부터 차량 폐기까지를 총괄한 포괄적 환경 영향 평가가 필수 불가결한 요소로 등장하리라 예측된다.   • IMO의 해양오명 방지협약(MARPOL 73/78)에 의하면 선박 배기가스에 포함된 질소산화물(NOx)과 황산화물(SOx)의 배출 제한을 강화한 IMO Tier III 기준이 2010년에 발효되어 2016년부터 신조선에 적용되며, NOx는 85% 이상 저감할 것을 요구하고 있다. 국제적으로 적용되는 선박배출가스 기준을 국내에 적용하고, 검증하기 위해서는 이를 시험할 수 있는 시험/검증 절차와 방법을 개발하는 것 또한 시급한 문제이다. 선진국들은 이미 오염물질 배출 저감 장비를 채택하고 대기 중 오염물질 측정 장치 도입을 추구하는 추세이며, 친환경 선박 기자재 개발로 차세대 녹색선박기술 선점을 주력하고 있다. 대한전기협회에서는 독일 VGB사의 "VGB-R 302 He 1998 $2^{nd}$ Revised edition" 2010년 판을 참고하여 발전소에 대한 SCR 시스템의 성능시험 및 진단 권장지침을 만들어 이용하고 있지만, 선박 SCR 시스템에 대한 내용은 정해진 바 없으며, 이를 개발하는 것 또한 중요하다.

  • Concern about air pollution is gradually rising up in domestic and foreign, automotive and fuel researchers are trying to reduce vehicle exhaust emissions, through a lot of approaches, which consist of new engine design and innovative after-treatment systems, using clean (eco-friendly alternative) fuels and fuel quality improvement. This research is proceeding by two main issues : exhaust emissions and PM particle emissions of gasoline vehicle. Exhaust emissions, non-regulated emissions and PM (particulate matter) particles of automotive are causing many problems which ambient pollution and harmful effects on the human body. The main particulate fraction of automotive exhaust emissions consists of small particles. Because of their small size, inhaled particles can easily penetrate deep into the lungs. The rough surfaces of these particles make it easier for them to combine with other toxins in the environment. Thus, the hazards of particle inhalation are increased. Based on the oxygenated fuel additive types (MTBE, Bio-ETBE, Bio-ethanol, Bio-butanol), this paper discussed the influence of oxygen contents on gasoline vehicle exhaust emissions, non-regulated emissions and nano-particle emissions. Also, this paper assessed exhaust emission characteristics at 2 type test modes. The test modes were FTP-75 and HWFET. All measurement items be verified less than the value of regulated emissions. It could be known difference increase and decrease by each measurement item depending on increase the oxygen contents.

Influence of fuel injection pattern on combustion and emissions characteristics of diesel engine by using emulsified fuel applied with EGR system (에멀젼연료와 EGR의 동시적용 디젤엔진에 있어서 연료 분사 패턴이 연소와 배기가스에 미치는 영향)

  • The use of emulsified fuel and EGR (Exhaust gas recirculation) system are effective methods to reduce NOx emission from diesel engines. In general, it is considered that EGR method influences diesel engine combustion in three different ways: thermal, chemical and dilution effect. Among others, the thermal effect is related to the increase of specific heat capacity due to the presence of $CO_2$ and $H_2O$ in inlet air. Meanwhile, emulsified fuel method of utilizing latent heat of vaporization and miro-explosion has been recognized as an effective technique for reducing diesel engine emissions. In this paper, an author studied on combustion and emission characteristics by using emulsified fuel (EF, Light oil : 80% + Water : 20%) and EGR (30% EGR ratio) system. And the effect of fuel injection pattern control was investigated.

Effect of Low Calorific Natural Gas on Performance and Emission Characteristics of Engine (저발열량 천연가스가 엔진 성능 및 배기특성에 미치는 영향)

  • In this, three types of natural gas were employed to investigate the effect of low-calorific natural gas on the performance of and emissions from a heavy-duty CNG engine. The performance and emission characteristics were analyzed by conducting a full-load test, WHSC mode test, and WHTC mode test. The results showed that the torque of low-calorific natural gas with $9,800kcal/Nm^3$ of higher heating value decreased by 4.4 compared to that of the current natural gas with $10,400kcal/Nm^3$ of heating value. With low-calorific fuels, CO, $CO_2$, and $NO_x$ emissions decreased. However, THC emissions increased. According to the WHSC and WHTC mode test results, the thermal efficiency increased and the emission characteristics showed a similar trend to the full-load test results. Low-calorific natural gases cause a decrease in torque at full-load operation conditions and an increase in hydrocarbon emissions.

  • Researches on the emissions of greenhouse gases in the construction industry, which accounts for 40% of raw materials, 30% of energy consumption, and 30% of $CO_2$ emissions in the entire industry, are mainly focused on studies of LCA. However, it is assessed that $CO_2$ emissions are higher in construction sequence than in operation sequence. Also, it is considered that construction machinery using fossil fuel is a main factor causing environmental load in construction sequence. Therefore, this study analyzes the workload and engine RPM characteristics of the excavator which is the second largest number of registered construction machinery in Korea and the highest utilization rate in actual construction site. The excavator is divided into non-load states and load states where power is transmitted to the excavator. The exhaust gas is analyzed by a direct measurement method using PEMS equipment. $CO_2$ emissions are estimated by analyzing the relationship between RPM and exhaust emission characteristics according to the actual driving conditions. Additionally, we analyze the difference between $CO_2$ emissions of construction machine calculated by this study and $CO_2$ emissions calculated by using carbon emission coefficient.

  • The efforts of EGR on performance and emissions were investigated in this study. The engine used for the tests was a six-cylinder, 11 liter, and turbo-charged, heavy-duty diesel engine with a low pressure route ECR system. The volume of recirculated gas was controlled by a manually operated valve which was installed between the turbine outlet and compressor inlet. The experiments were performed at various engine speeds and loads while the ECR rates were set at 4% and 8%. Exhaust emissions with EGR system were compared with the baseline emissions.

  • Carbon dioxide is considered a major greenhouse gas that contributes to global wanning. $CO_2$ is a major component of the exhaust in the combustion of any hydrocarbon fuel. The regulation for $CO_2$ emission from vehicles has become much more stringent in recent years. These more stringent regulations require vehicle manufacturers to develop alternative fuels that reduce exhaust emissions. This paper evaluated the correlation of $CO_2$ emission and fuel economy in the Gasoline, Diesel, and LPG vehicles according to FTP-75 and NEDC(ECE15+EUDC) driving mode. From this study, we discovered that the decrease rate of $CO_2$ emission is higher for fuels of lower carbon concentration. When the relationship between $CO_2$ emission and fuel consumption rate according to used fuels is expressed as a function, one can find out that they have a high correlation. LPG vehicles produce less $CO_2$ emission than gasoline and diesel vehicles.
