Validity and Expected Effect of International Marketing Cooperative for Korean Animation (애니메이션 해외 배급 활성화를 위한 마케팅 협동조합 도입의 타당성 연구)

  • Operating under the principle of user-benefit maximization and democratic user-control, cooperatives are being spot-lighted as a business model satisfying the various social, financial needs. In Korea, the Law of Cooperative was enacted as of December 2012, which has enabled the establishment of cooperatives in variety of industry fields. This study is to discuss the expected effect and validity of marketing cooperative as a solution for insufficient sales revenue in international distribution of Korean animation. The interviews with Korean animation studios found out the key problems of overseas distribution, which are; 1) lack of marketing expertise and weak organization, 2) lack of ancillary rights exploitation due to the deals based upon all rights package with the broadcasters who are not interested in ancillary business, 3) lack of localized marketing support in each territory. The solution for these problems takes large and long-term marketing investment and it is far beyond the capabilities of small Korean animation studios. Marketing cooperative can provide services not available otherwise such as in-depth market research which will help the improvement of international marketing expertise. Also. as the cooperative carries enough volume of animation catalogue, it can increase negotiation power satisfying the various needs of buyers. Also, it can provide the precise marketing support for each territory by integrating every process of value chain, from TV broadcasting, merchandising, and digital media platform. Above all, a clear benefit of marketing cooperative is that, because of its user-benefit and user-control principle, the principal-agent problem can be minimized while it maximizes the profit for member studios.

  • 좀처럼 침체의 늪을 벗어나지 못하고 있는 국내 애니메이션 업계에 지난 10월 반가운 소식이 전해졌다. 우리나라 삼지애니메이션이 기획한 3D 애니메이션‘ODD Family’의 국제 공동제작 발표회가 프랑스 칸에서 성공적으로 개최됐다는 것이다. 삼지애니메이션과 프랑스의 티문애니메이션이 공동 개최한 이번 제작 발표회에는 TF1, ZDF 등 유럽 방송사, 미국 배급사 MGM, 한국 공중파 3사 등이 참여해TV용 3D 시트콤 ODD Family에 큰 관심을 나타냈다. 특히 유럽 최대의 민영방송사인 TF1은 20억원에 이르는 프랑스내 방송판권료를 지불하기로 해 향후 ODD 패밀리의 글로벌배급망 확보에 한층 가속도가 붙을 전망이다. ODD Family의 제작사 삼지애니메이션의 김수훈 사장을 만나 그간의 과정과 계획을 들어봤다.

Mechanism of Windowing of Domestic Free TV Programs (국내 지상파 방송 콘텐츠의 창구화 메커니즘 분석)

  • Domestic free TVs play roles as for contents provider and TV station : they need to acquire not only ad revenues but also distribution revenues from internet service, cable channel and DMB. It is however doubtful to keep the windowing of programs through the different windows due to recent decrease of ad revenues of the stations. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to search for the mechanism of windowing of free TV's programs and the strategy of the distribution. As a result, the life cycle of the broadcasting programs is so short to be distributed within 7 days, Regarding the windowing, there are at first the strategy increasing the accumulated revenue by the diversification of the windows ; secondly, the strategy focusing on the prospective window neglecting the holdback. It is necessary to choose to take the appropriate strategy by the particularity of each program and the market background.

Export of Korean Films in Japan: Focused on the Films Released between 2002 and 2006 (한국 영화의 특성에 따른 일본 수출 성과에 대한 연구: 2002년부터 2006년까지의 개봉작을 중심으로)

  • The objective of this study is to see the characteristics of Korean films exported in Japan: preferred genres, casting of Korean wave star, major distributors' releases, number of spectators in domestic market. According to the analysis, first of all, Japanese movie goers prefer Korean melo-movies compared with Korean spectators who tend to like comics. It is also proven that Korean wave stars have been cast largely in Korean films exported in Japan. Furthermore, the big hit Korean films that have been distributed by 3 majors have been preferred by Japanese importers. That means the brand power of Korean distributors and release performance in domestic market can influence directly the exportation of films.

  • The purpose of this study is to research on the mechanism of exportation of Korean TV programs. As a result, the buying countries of Korean TV programs have been relatively diversified : 40 countries across the world. However, examining the frequency of exportation has shown that it primarily focused on few countries such as Japan and Taiwan. Furthermore, drama has been the most preferred genre by foreign countries. Fortunately, remakes, dubbing productions, publications, and merchandising have been started to develop. As for the trade partner, the portion of foreign distributors has been ranked as a the most prioritized type. Therefore, it is necessary to open the existing closed system of distribution of Korean free TV to build more diversified partnership.

A Comparative Case Study of Factors Determining Documentary Films' Success :Focusing on "My Love, Don't Cross That River" and "Two Doors" (다큐멘터리영화의 성공을 결정짓는 요인에 관한 비교사례연구 -<님아, 그 강을 건너지 마오>와 <두 개의 문>을 중심으로)

  • After a few recent documentary films had commercial success, factors for their success are getting attention. This paper explores the factors of the financial success of two documentary films. "My Love, Don't Cross That River" gained extended popularity with its universal message, and "Two Doors" conveyed a poweful political message. This paper conducted a case study by inteviewing production directors and distribution managers. Analysis was based on the three categories suggested by Litman and Kohl(1989): creative sphere, distribution-scheduling release pattern, and marketing efforts. Findings present the common factors of the two movies' success in the following areas: persons and events showing a powerful reality, a message with new and fresh insight, artistic quality, distribution strategy with timely scheduling, release time (period), public relations, and advertising.. In addition, "My Love, Don't Cross That River" was helped by a sufficient budget for scheduling/releasing and advertising. Its wide-release stratergy worked as well. "Two Doors" was aided by the government support for release and by the special factor called 'Participating viewer'. By examining the factors of documentary films' commercial success, this study has an implication for the popularization of documentary movies by indicating how to strategically apply relevant factors.

  • 최근 RSS(Really Simple Syndication)를 응용한 서비스가 해외는 물론 국내에서도 각 분야에서 다양하고 활발하게 연구 개발되고 있다. 국내외 RSS서비스 현황 및 사례조사를 통해 민간과 공공부문의 RSS 서비스 현황을 분석하고, 과학기술분야 지식정보의 특성을 고려하여 다양한 정보와 환경에 유연하게 대응할 수 있는 과학기술 지식정보 서비스를 위한 RSS기반 정보배급 표준시스템의 설계 방안을 제시하였다.
