Vegetation Disturbance of Korea during the Pre-Chosun Dynasty Period (조선시대 이전의 식생 간섭사)

  • Vegetation disturbance history of the Korean Peninsula from the Palaeolithic Age to the Koryo Dynasty (1392) has reconstructed by the use of various data sources. Active vegetation disturbance, which has begun during the Neolithic Age, seems to be more widespread on lowland and coastal areas in the early stages, but later expanded into inland areas. The ploughing of a field and the selective cutting of certain trees, such as oak trees, nettle trees and pine trees are noticeable, and eventually caused deforestation during the Bronze Age. The use of iron tools of the Iron Age has enabled the forest clearing to develope the dry fields. During the Three Kingdoms period (BC 57∼AD 918) extensive deforestation has maintained for the development of cultivated fields, as well as other activities, such as timber, lumbering, production of iron farm implement, ploughing by cattle. The encouragement of disafforestation on mountain slope and creation of terraced field during the Koryo Dynasty (918∼1392) has caused the deforestation over the country, along with the consumption of large amount of wood and timber for fire-wood, ship-building, mining, xylography and so on.

Evaluation on national environmental functionality of farming on soil loss using the USLE and replacement cost method (USLE모형과 대체법을 이용한 밭농사의 토양유실 저감기능 계량화 평가)

  • Multifunctionality of agriculture has been an important international issue in terms of environmental benefits and public concerns. We calculated soil loss mass in national basis using the USLE, and attempted to evaluate its economical benefits by replacement cost method. Soil loss mass ranged from 1.4 to $18MT\;ha^{-1}\;yr^{-1}$ was fairly fitted to measured values for 13 cropping systems. In national basis, the factors in USLE were evaluated as: 429.4 for rainfall and runoff factor. R, 0.15 for soil erodibility factor, K, 1.72 for topographic factor, LS, 0.275 for cover and management factor, C, and 0.856 for support practice factor, P. The soil loss estimated from upland farming using the USLE was $26.1MT\;ha^{-1}\;yr^{-1}$, but soil loss from the bare soil was $110.8MT\;ha^{-1}\;yr^{-1}$, the ratio of soil loss from upland farming to bare soil was 23 percents. Function of reducing soil loss in comparison with the bare soil was $84.7MT\;ha^{-1}\;yr^{-1}$, of which national soil loss mass was 62.6 million MT per annum in south Korea. Agriculture economic replacement cost of soil loss reduction was 497 billion Wons(398 million dollars) for the cost of upland soil dressing. For conservational purposes to increase the environmental benefits of upland farming, the agricultural practice including contour, strip cropping, terracing and division ditches should be implemented.

The Study on Quantifying and Evaluating for the Functions of Flood Control and Fostering Water Resources in Agriculture (농업의 홍수조절기능과 수자원함양기능 계량화 및 가치평가에 관한 연구)

  • In order to share the understanding agricultural multifunctionality with people, we carried out quantification and monetary evaluation for controlling flood and fostering water resources function in paddy and upland farming in Korea. The amount of water controlling flood and fostering water resources function in paddy farming was much greater than that in upland. The quantification of flood control function could be estimated by sum of the height of dike and water infiltrated during the flooding periods in paddy farming, and water excepting runoff water from precipitation at flooding time in upland farming. As results of estimation of flood control function, the amounts of water controlling flood have been evaluated as $294mm\;year^{-1}$ in paddy farming and $72.6mm\;year^{-1}$ upland farming, and was calculated 3.71 billion MT on a nation basis in 2006. When it was carried out monetary estimation as the cost of dam construction and the depreciation expense by using replacement cost method, flood control functions in paddy and upland were evaluated as 44,338.9 and 7,221.5 billion won, respectively. Comparing with previous reports, monetary value was analyzed much to increase because of rising price cost recently. Fostering water resource functions were also quantified in paddy and upland farming as the amount of water keeping and infiltrating water during the cultivation. In the basis of estimation model, it was showed that paddy and upland farming had been estimated to have $414.28mm\;year^{-1}$, $18.7mm\;year^{-1}$, respectively. They were also calculated to 4.49 and 0.137 billion MT on a nation basis in 2006, respectively. The economic values of fostering water resources function in paddy and upland farming were also estimated to 1,769.4 and 52.8 billion won, respectively, as replacing the amount of water to the cost of drinking water in 2006. There were differences by much to the amounts of controlling flood function and fostering water resource between paddy and upland farming. It means that paddy farming more play an important role in environment than upland farming in Korea.

  • 우리나라의 밭면적은 851천ha로서 전체 경지면적의 40$\%$에 달하고 있으나 경사지(傾斜地)가 많고 유형별(類型別)로도 숙전비율(熟田比率)이 41.8$\%$밖에 되지 않아 비옥도가 낮은 형편이다. 밭의 이용률은 ''83년에 130.9$\%$로서 일본이나 대만등에 비하여 매우 낮은 편이고 그나마 밭에서의 식량작물재배가 절반 이상 점하고 있는 실정이다. 한편 우리나라는 ''70년대 중반이후 지속적인 고도경제성장에 따른 국민생활수준의 향상으로 식품소비도 고급화 내지 다양화(多樣化)의 수요가 크게 늘어나고 있다. 오늘날 우리 농촌은 자급자족적 영농형태(自給自足的營農形態)에서 소득증대를 위한 상품생산적영농형태(商品生産的營農形態)로의 전환기에 와 있음을 감안할 때 밭농사에서의 전작목 선정 및 합리적인 각부체계 도입은 소득증대에 지름길이 될것임은 자명하다 할것이다.

Evaluation of Function of Upland Farming for Preventing Flood and Fostering Water Resources (밭농사의 수자원 함양과 홍수조절 기능에 대한 계량화 평가)

  • Multifunctionality of agriculture which is not traded on the market now has been an important international issue in that it environmental and public benefits. We carried out to modify and to update the function of upland farming on flood prevention and fostering water resources. Economic values of environmental benefits were evaluated by replacement cost methods. Models to evaluate the function of preventing flood were selected as: (1)precipitation(flood-inducing) - runoff(A), (2) soil depth ${\times}$ soil air phase, (3) precipitation (flood-inducing) - runoff(B), (4) soil depth ${\times}$ effective porosity of soil. Models to estimate the function of fostering water resources were (1) saturated hydraulic conductivity (Ks) ${\times}$ duration of saturation(days) ${\times}$ (1-ratio of water flow directly into river), (2) precipitation ${\times}$ ratio of water fostered by rain resources ${\times}$ (area of upland/total land area), and (3) soil water retention quantity(under standing crop or tree) - SWRQ(in bare soil). Function of preventing flood was $883Mg\;ha^{-1}$ of water per year and 645 million Mg for the whole upland area. Function of fostering water resources was $94.1Mg\;ha^{-1}$ of water per year and 69 million Mg for the whole upland area. The value of flood-preventing function evaluated by replacement cost methods was estimated 1,428 billion won per year as compared to the cost for dam construction. The value of water resource fostering were estimated 8.6 billion won in the price of living water.

Estimation of Economic Value of Cooling by Upland Farming during Hot Summer (밭농사의 여름철 기후순화기능에 대한 경제적 가치 평가)

  • Multifunctionality of agriculture which cannot be in trade has internationally an important issue due to its environmental and public benefits. The purpose of this study was to estimate economic value of upland farming in cooling effect during hot summer. Economic value of cooling effect was evaluated by the replacement cost method. To evaluate the cooling effect from July through August, the amount of evapotranspiration in upland was estimated using crop coefficients and soil water coefficients perviously reported by several researchers. In July and August, average crop coefficient of fourteen major upland crops was 1.19 and average soil water coefficient of major textures of upland soil was 0.91. The estimated evapotranspiration in upland from July through August was $1,224{\times}10^6Mg$, and this amount of evapotranspiration can consume $7.1{\times}10^{14}kcal$ of heat. When these values were converted to the price of petroleum, the economic value of cooling effect by upland farming from July through August was about 12 trillion won.

Natural Environment and Agriculture in Chuncheon Region during the Bronze Age (청동기시대 춘천지방의 자연환경과 농경)

  • The remains of the Bronze Age in Chuncheon region are mostly distributed on the floodplain. The floodplain in this region is made up mainly of natural levee that is high in height and is not flooded with water. The natural levee has very advantageous conditions in agriculture compared with other places. There is a high possibility that people in Chuncheon region during the Bronze Age inhabited on the floodplain and engaged in agriculture. Considering the geomorphic features and soil of natural levee, it is believed that the agriculture centered on dry-field farming was done in this region at that time.

모로코의 밭 관개사업과 경지정리

  • 20년전(年前)에 모로코에서 경지정리(耕地整理)와 관개조직(灌漑組織)의 배치(配置)에 관(關)한 모델이 개발(開發)되어 널리 사용(使用)되고 있다. '합리적(合理的) 배치법(配置法)'이라고 이름이 붙은 이 방법(方法)은 토지소유규모(土地所有規模)가 영세(零細)하고 여러가지 밭작물(作物)을 재배(栽培)하는 지역(地域)에서 현대적(現代的)인 농사법(農事法)과 윤환급수(輪環給水)를 하는데 적합(適合)한 방법(方法)이다. '합리적(合理的) 배치법(配置法)'은 다음 두가지의 다른 관개배치법(灌漑配置法)을 결합(結合)시킨 것이다. (1) 현대적(現代的) 집단농사(集團農事), 특(特)히 집단(集團) 경운(耕耘)을 주(主)로 한 농경기술자적(農耕技術者的)인 방법(方法), (2) 관개수로(灌漑水路), 배수로(排水路), 농도등(農道等)을 포함(包含)한 영구적(永久的) 포장관개조직(圃場灌漑組織)을 가진 관개공학기술자적(灌漑工學技術者的)인 방법(方法). 합리적(合理的) 배치법(配置法)은 분산(分散)된 여러개의 작은 필지를 통합(統合)하여 관개(灌漑)에 적합(適合)한 크기로 만드는데 관계(關係)되는 여러가지 요인(要因)을 다루어야 하며 필지의 크기, 지표(地表) 또는 스프링클러등의 관개방법, 작물(作物)의 종류(種類), 윤작(輪作), 농업(農業)의 기계화등(機械化等)이 이에 속(屬)한다. 이 방법(方法)을 적용(適用)한 지구(地區)에서 나타난 이점(利點)으로는 관개효율(灌漑效率)의 증가(增加), 수량(收量)의 증가(增加), 토지이용률(土地利用率)의 증가(增加), 현대적(現代的) 농사법(農事法)의 적용(適用) 증가등(增加等)이 있다.

  • In this paper, we try to solve the difficulties of the location of the structure for the movement of the wire - based pesticide spraying equipment designed for field farming. To do this, we apply earth resistivity measurement method and analysis technique which can indirectly grasp the earth structure. Electrodes are installed on the field in a selected farming area, and multi-switches built in the control board are driven to automatically acquire ground resistivity data. Then, the optimal point suitable for the actual structure installation is selected through the site analysis using the 2D image restoration algorithm.

  • 농가인구의 감소 및 고령화, 고소득 작물 재배, 기후변화 등으로 인해 영농형태가 논농사에서 밭농사로 전환되고 지역별 증감의 차이가 있기는 하나 밭 면적이 증가하는 추세를 보인다. 한편, 밭작물은 논에 비해 기반시설이 부족하고 고소득의 밭작물을 생산하기 위한 시설재배가 늘어나면서 대부분 사계절 확보가 용이하고 수질이 양호한 지하수를 사용하고 있다. 지하수 수요 증가는 지하수위 저하와 지하수 고갈의 우려를 초래하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 농업용 지하수 이용 실태를 분석하고 지하수이용 및 관리 제도 현황을 검토하여 지속가능한 밭용수 공급을 위한 지하수 관리전략을 제안하였다. 진주시를 대상으로 경지유형에 따른 지하수 이용 특성 분석하여 지하수의 수요 특성을 살펴보았는데, 하천 주변 저지대에 큰규모의 밭이나 집단화된 시설재배 지역이 분포하고 있고 지하수 관정도 밀집하고 있었다. 하천에서 떨어진 산간지역에는 지하수 관정이 산발적으로 분포하고 있었다. 지하수 수요는 공간적 위치 외에도 고품질 농업용수에 대한 요구도 원인인 것으로 조사되었다. 밭기반 용수공급 관련 사업과 지하수 자원확보 관련 법제도 등을 고찰하여 밭의 위치, 규모, 용수공급의 수요 특성 등을 고려하여 밭용수 공급을 위한 세 가지 지하수 관리전략을 제안하였다. 우선, 농업용 지하수 이용량 실측 및 정보의 다각화를 통한 정보의 고도화가 필요하다. 둘째, 지하수 이용의 공간적 특성을 고려하여 지표수와 연계한 지하수 이용기반이 구축되어야 한다. 지표수 공급이 가능한 지역은 지표수를 우선 공급하거나 지하수와 혼합 또는 교차하여 공급하고 물공급 취약지역에서는 지하수 공급 기반시설을 구축하는 것이다. 세 번째 전략은 농업용 지하수 시설의 공공관리 강화 및 관리 효율화이다. 특히 지하수이용이 밀집한 지역에서는 지하수 인허가 기준을 강화하고 용도별 관리체계 구축이 필요하다. 밭용수 공급은 농가 소득과 밀접한 연관이 있기 때문에 물이용의 지속가능성과 함께 농가 소득증대를 고려하는 공편인적 관점에서의 관리가 필요할 것으로 생각된다.
