Critical Management Factors of Fluid-Applied Membrane Waterproofing Work for building basements (지하층 도막방수공사의 중점관리요인)

  • One role of waterproofing work is to block external moisture and water. Defects in waterproofing work in building construction brings on huge repair costs for related construction work as well as for the waterproofing layer itself. However, we don't have a quantitative probabilistic management method for waterproofing work to successfully anticipate and prevent defects. From an analysis of the literature and prior research, defects in the waterproofing work in the underground parts of buildings occur frequently. We selected Fluid-Applied Membrane waterproofing work as representing waterproofing work in the underground parts of a building, and researched the general types and causes of defects. In this study, we developed the Relative-FMEA (Failure Mode and Effect Analysis) approach that merges the Matrix method and FMEA. From a survey of experts, we deduced the most important management factors for Fluid-Applied Membrane waterproofing work for the underground parts of buildings.

Stress Analysis in Waterproof Layer on Steel Bridge Deck Pavement Using Finite Element Analysis (유한요소해석을 이용한 교면포장의 방수층에서의 응력해석)

  • The behavior of pavement and waterproofing layer on the steel bridge deck system under traffic loading was analyzed using a finite element method in this paper. In the finite element analysis, the othotropic steel bridge deck is represented by equivalent plate using solid element instead of shell element and the interface is assumed perfect bonding state. The effects of several parameters such as thickness of deck, Young's modulus of deck, thickness of pavement, different braking loading, and temperature on the stresses and strain in the interface are investigated for bridge deck pavement. The shear stress of waterproof layer increases with decrease of bridge deck thickness and stiffness. The change of shear stress is negligible when the bridge deck thictaess is greater than 150mm and stiffness is greater than $2{\times}10^{5}MPa$. As the pavement thickness and temperature decrease, the shear stress in the waterproof layer tends to be increased. The tensile strain at the bottom asphalt layer decreases as the temperature and thickness increase.

  • 강바닥판 교면포장의 파손방지를 위하여 윤하중을 받는 강박스형 강바닥판의 변형도를 조사하였다. 이를 위하여 강바닥판과 거더는 쉘요소, 포장은 고체요소로 각각 모델링하고 정밀유한요소해석을 수행하였다. 탄성비, 포장의 두께, 그리고 방수층의 두께 및 물성치 변화에 따른 교면 포장된 강바닥판의 계면, 포장상면 그리고 포장 두께에서의 교축, 교직 그리고 중력방향에 대한 변형도를 측정하였다. 그 결과 방수층의 두께 및 물성치의 변화에 대해 강바닥판과 포장은 거의 영향을 받지 않았고, 대체적으로 포장의 두께가 강바닥판과 포장사이의 탄성비보다 포장의 변형에 더 기인하는 것으로 나타났다.

Effect of Plant Roots Penetration and Watertightness of Asphalt Sheet according to the Cracks Width of Press Concrete (콘크리트 균열폭에 따른 녹화 식물 뿌리 침입 및 방수층의 수밀성에 미치는 영향)

  • For artificial ground greening construction without root-proofing layer, this research reviewed the effect on watertightness of asphalt waterproofing layer by plant roots penetration based on crack width, and crack penetrated roots. Experiment on concrete crack width was performed with three conditions such as 0.15, 0.30, and 0.45 mm, and all three conditions confirmed that all plant roots penetrations were made through crack area in 12 ~ 18 months. In addition, according to evaluation of effects on waterproofing layer by crack penetrated plant roots and in condition of 0.45 mm crack width, it indicated that penetration is made on asphalt waterproofing layer in 12 months due to roots penetration.

  • 본 연구는 기존의 하우스 랩이 가지는 방풍, 방수 기능 외에 복사열 차단성, 열반사성, 통기성, 투습성, 난연성, 방수성 및 단열성 등의 다기능성이 발현되는 우수한 건축용 하우스 랩을 제조하는 목적으로 시스-코어 섬유로 이루어진 부직포층, 통기성 합성수지 필름층, 니들펀칭 복합 부직포층 및 고분자 필름이 일면 또는 양면에 코팅된 내식성 알루미늄 필름층이 순차적으로 적층되고 핫-멜트 라미네이팅에 의하여 합지 된 다기능성 하우스 랩 및 그의 따른 제조방법에 관한 것이다. 상기 니들펀칭 부직포 내부에 포함 된 아라미드 섬유에 의해 우수한 난연효과를 가지며, 통기성 필름에 의하여 투습방수 기능을 가질 수 있으며, 니들펀칭 부직포층에 다량의 공기가 함유되어 보온성이 우수하고, 내식성 알루미늄 필름층이 가진 빛에 대해 우수한 방사성으로 복사열을 차단하여 단열효과를 나타내는 하우스 랩을 제조하였다.

  • In this study, seven companies(A~G) designated as new construction technology selected and evaluated KS F 2622: Method of test for performance evaluation of membrane roofing systems that are similar to field application conditions. As a result of the test, it was confirmed that although all test specimens exceeded KS standards in the basic physical, it was difficult to obtain field quality performance in weak areas such as joints and vertical parts of the adhesive coating method in water-tightness, sagging resistance, swelling resistance tests except for fatigue(crack behavior) tests.

  • The part in the structure that is most affected by changes of external temperature is the protective concrete layer that protects a waterproofing layer. Also, the waterproofing layer that is situated under or on the back of such a protective concrete layer is affected by temperature and the behavior of the protective concrete layer under the condition of consolidation or close adhesion. In particular, in many cases, the damage is serious mainly around the projection (such as a parapet), crack, and joint (expansion joint). However, there is no proper way of examining again the non-exposed waterproofing layer once it has been constructed. Therefore, there is an assessment only on the physical property of materials and the capability of the layer in construction, and there is no actual assessment in consideration of its environmental condition or the condition of the use of buildings after construction. Therefore, in order to create more pleasant buildings and to enhance the durability of structures, this study conducts research into the change of capability of non-exposed waterproofing material after the application of a static load and moving load on the waterproofing layer situated under or on the back of protective concrete.

Development of a Drainage System to Mitigate Moisture Damage for Bridge Deck Pavements (교면포장의 수분손상 저감을 위한 체류수 배수공법 개발)

  • A major purpose of this study is to develop a drainage system that can quickly drain water penetrated into pavement layers to mitigate pot holes which is one of the major distress types in bridge deck pavements. This system can be established by applying a thin drainage layer between waterproof and pavement layers. The most important elements for this system are the performance of waterproof layer and construction technique for the thin drainage layer. The porous asphalt mix with the maximum aggregate size of 10mm is first developed based on the porous asphalt mix design guide proposed by NCAT, and various physical and mechanical tests are performed to confirm that the porous mix satisfies all the specification requirements. In addition, a series of laboratory tests including low-temperature bending and bonding strength tests for the MMA(Methyl Methacrylate) type of waterproofing material. It is observed from the tests that the MMA material satisfies all the specification requirements. To evaluate the Reld performance of the drainage system, a field study has been conducted on a relatively small size bridge. The QC/QA tests are conducted on the both waterproofing and pavement materials. It has been found that the drainage system works well to drain the water penetrated into the pavement layers.

Effect of Asphalt Pavement Conditions on Tensile Adhesive Strength of Waterproofing System on Concrete Bridge Deck (아스팔트 포장 조건이 교면방수 시스템의 인장접착강도에 미치는 영향)

  • The performance of waterproofing system (WPS) is known to be a function of many complex interaction of material factors, design details, and the quality of construction, but it is mainly determined by the bond strength, which is measured by tensile adhesive strength (TAS) test. to the concrete bridge deck. In this research, eight waterproofing membranes were selected from commercial market and the tensile adhesive characteristics of the WPS on concrete bridge deck were investigated in view of various factor in asphalt pavement. The factors include type of asphalt mixture, pavement thickness, paving temperature and influence of wheel loading. TAS test of different asphalt pavement types showed that TAS of WPS under SMA (Stone Mastic Asphalt) pavement was greater than that under dense asphalt pavement. TAS of sheet membranes was improved as the compaction temperature of asphalt concrete increase, but TAS of liquid membranes were not. The influence of thickness of pavement val minimal with given laboratory test condition. TAS of sheet membranes after wheel tracking test were in the order of the sites under wheel path (UWP), before wheel tracking (BWT) and nearby wheel path (NWP). Since TAS of the same WPS of UWP was higher than TAS of BWT, wheel loading had function of pressing WPS resulting in higher adhesive strength. But liquid membranes were variable on types. The feature of detached interface after TAS test showed that sheet types were all detached in between deck concrete and WPS, and liquid types were detached in between asphalt pavement and WPS.
