Effects of Using Shot Clip on the Broadcasting Viewing Intention (방송클립동영상 이용이 방송 시청의도에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is to search shot clip' using variables influencing on the VOD purchase intention and watching intention of real-time broadcasting. This research focused on usage motivation, usage experience such as use time, time of utilization, genre, utilization pattern. Controlling demographic factors, results show that personal relation, benefit against whole broadcast, education genre, watching video, video sharing and recommendation were statistically influential to VOD purchase intention. And, results show that flexibility of use, drama/movie genre, read and write comments were statistically influential to watching intention of real-time broadcasting.

An Analysis of Performers' Contribution to Entertainment Show Clips on AVOD Platform (AVOD 예능 방송 동영상 클립에 대한 실연자의 기여도 분석)

  • This study examines the effect of performers on the number of views and likes of entertainment show clips consumed on AVOD short form platform. Multiple regression analysis was performed, setting program viewing factors and performer's topicality index as independent variables, and setting the number of views and likes of clips as dependent variables. As a result of the analysis, performer's topicality index had a positive(+) effect on both dependent variables. According to standardized coefficient, on the number of views, the standardization coefficient of the performer's topicality index was the second highest, and on the number of likes it was the highest among variables. The results suggest that performers contribute a lot to the success of clips on AVOD short form platform.

A Study on the Factors Affecting Pre-Roll Advertising Avoidance by Online Video Content Types (온라인 동영상 콘텐츠 유형별 프리롤 광고회피에 영향을 미치는 요인에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the causes of pre-roll ads played before watching online video contents, and to investigate the using motives by dividing them into broadcasting contents clips and web original contents. The results show that broadcast contents clips have higher use of entertainment/habitual use and social interaction, and that the use time of web content is higher when entertainment/convenience and selective use motivation are higher. Second, perceived invasion has the greatest effect on ad avoidance in broadcasting contents clip, and positive attitude toward advertisement is a significant factor in web contents. Content factors such as content preference and engagement did not affect the avoidance of pre-roll ad.

  • Design and Implementation of Clipcast Service via Terrestrial DMB This paper outlines the system design and the implementation process of clipcast service that can send clips of video, mp3, text, images, etc. to terrestrial DMB terminals. To provide clipcast service in terrestrial DMB, a separate data channel needs to be allocated and this requires changes in the existing bandwidth allocation. Clipcast contents can be sent after midnight at around 3 to 4 AM, when terrestrial DMB viewship is low. If the video service bit rate is lowered to 352 Kbps and the TPEG service band is fully used, then 320 Kbps bit rate can be allocated to clipcast. To enable clipcast service, the terminals' DMB program must be executed, and this can be done through SMS and EPG. Clipcast service applies MOT protocol to transmit multimedia objects, and transmits twice in carousel format for stable transmission of files. Therefore, 72Mbyte data can be transmitted in one hour, which corresponds to about 20 minutes of full motion video service at 500Kbps data rate. When running the clip transmitted through terrestrial DMB data channel, information regarding the length of each clip is received through communication with the CMS(Content Management Server), then error-free files are displayed. The clips can be provided to the users as preview contents of the complete VOD contents. In order to use the complete content, the user needs to access the URL allocated for that specific content and download the content by completing a billing process. This paper suggests the design and implementation of terrestrial DMB system to provide clipcast service, which enables file download services as provided in MediaFLO, DVB-H, and the other mobile broadcasting systems. Unlike the other mobile broadcasting systems, the proposed system applies more reliable SMS method to activate the DMB terminals for highly stable clipcast service. This allows hybrid, i.e, both SMS and EPG activations of terminals for clipcast services.

  • 최근 미디어 간 컨버전스가 가속화되면서 그 사이를 흐르는 콘텐츠 유형이 방송과 인터넷 양쪽을 충족시키고 또한 모바일 환경에 최적화된 서비스를 위해 클립화 되어 가고 있다. 다수의 미디어 콘텐츠를 공급하는 방송사의 입장에서는 콘텐츠서비스를 위한 콘텐츠 관리방안이 중요한 이슈가 되고 있으며 ID, 메타데이터 등 관리를 위한 체계를 잡는 것의 중요성도 증대되고 있으며 또한 분절된 동영상을 어떻게 만들고 어떻게 서비스 할것인가도 중요한 이슈이다. 이번연구는 대표적인 방송용 콘텐츠 메타데이터 표준인 EBU Core, PB Core와 우리나라 KBS 메타데이터의 분절형동영상 관련하여 메타데이터 구조를 파악하고 어떻게 구성되어 있는지 비교분석하여 보았다. 분석결과 메타데이터가 근간을 이루는 기본구조는 거의 유사하였고 각각 관점의 차이에 따라 추가되는 항목이 존재함을 발견할 수 있었다. 그리고 최근 미디어 환경변화에 따라 분절형동영상을 표현하는 메타데이터 항목에 대한 개선방향을 몇가지 제안하였다.

2018 Russia World Cup UHD VOD Service Using HDR Video (HDR 기술을 활용한 2018 러시아 월드컵 UHD방송 VOD 서비스)

  • KBS를 비롯한 지상파방송 3사는 실시간 UHD방송과 VOD 온라인 동영상 서비스가 결합된 세계 최초의 지상파 양방향 UHD 플랫폼인 Tiviva(이하 티비바) 서비스를 2017년 11월 오픈하였다. 티비바는 별도의 셋톱박스 없이 UHD TV에 직접수신 안테나와 인터넷을 연결하여 지상파 방송사의 실시간 방송 채널 외에 다양한 UHD VOD와 클립을 이용할 수 있고, 스포츠와 드라마, 종편(JTBC, MBN), 영화 등 50여 개의 IP채널을 추가로 볼 수 있는 서비스이다. 이후 2018년 1월에는 이용자 편리성과 자동추천 기능 등 UI/UX를 크게 개선한 티비바 2.0을 업데이트 하였고, 평창올림픽 기간에는 전 경기 실시간 스트리밍 및 올림픽특별관을 운영하였다. 2018년 6월 러시아 월드컵 기간에는 축구 경기 UHD HDR 방송 중계와 함께 티비바를 통한 HDR VOD를 최초로 서비스하여 스포츠 경기를 즐기는 또다른 즐거움을 선사하였다. 본 논문에서는 러시아 월드컵 HDR VOD 서비스를 준비하고 시행하기 위한 시스템 설계 및 진행과정, 기술 이슈 등에 대해서 기술하려고 한다.

Simulation of Disaster Broadcast Service Using Terrestrial UHD Additional Data (지상파 UHD 부가 데이터를 활용한 재난방송 서비스 시뮬레이션)

  • In this paper, we simulated disaster broadcast service using terrestrial UHD additional data. We looked at nine functions(warning alarm, location-based information, multilingual, re-viewing the title of breaking news, evacuation knack video, CCTV, clip video, wake up, automatic channel switching) by referring to ATSC 3.0 standards. Analyzing the advantages and problems of the proposed disaster broadcast. Expert interviews were conducted after a demonstration and explanation of terrestrial UHD disaster broadcast. They said that the problems with the technology were difficulty in using, obstruction of viewing, content creation problems, and problems with advertisers. In addition to the lack of simulation-based research, this research has provided an insight into the technology by showing it in a visible way. This helped shape the advantages and problems of technology.

  • In this paper, we presented the concept and some methods to watch online video clips related to a TV program on atelevision which is called lean-back media, and we simulated our concept on a PC system. The key point of this research is suggesting a new service model to TV viewers and the TV industry, which the model provides simple and easy ways to watch online video clips on a TV screen. The paper defined new tags for metadata and algorithm for the model, then showed simple example using those metadata. At the end, it mentioned the usage of the model in the digital broadcasting environment and discuss about the issues which should handle as future works.

Producing Stereoscopic Video Contents Using Transformation of Character Objects (캐릭터 객체의 변환을 이용하는 입체 동영상 콘텐츠 제작)

  • Recently, 3D displays are supplied in the 3D markets so that the demand for 3D stereoscopic contents increases. In general, a simple method is to use a stereoscopic camera. As well, the production of 3D from 2D materials is regarded as an important technology. Such conversion works have gained much interest in the field of 3D converting. However, the stereoscopic image generation from a single 2D image is limited to simple 2D to 3D conversion so that the better realistic perception is difficult to deliver to the users. This paper presents a new stereoscopic content production method where foreground objects undergo alive action events. Further stereoscopic animation is viewed on 3D displays. Given a 2D image, the production is composed of background image generation, foreground object extraction, object/background depth maps and stereoscopic image generation The alive objects are made using the geometric transformation (e.g., translation, rotation, scaling, etc). The proposed method is performed on a Korean traditional painting, Danopungjung as well as Pixar's Up. The animated video showed that through the utilization of simple object transformations, more realistic perception can be delivered to the viewers.
