The purpose of this study was to identify the mediating effect of resilience in the relationship between stigma and quality of life (QOL) in lung cancer patients. Participants were 119 lung cancer patients who visited the outpatient department of a hospital. The subjects completed a questionnaire of stigma, resilience and QOL. Data were analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe test, Pearson correlation, three-step regressions to test mediating effect and Sobel test. Stigma was negatively correlated with resilience and QOL. Resilience was positively correlated with QOL. Stigma explained 15.0% of the variance of resilience. Stigma and resilience explained 41.0% of the variance of QOL. Resilience had a partial mediating effect in the relationship between stigma and QOL. The results suggest that a nursing intervention to decrease stigma and enhance resilience is recommended to improve QOL in lung cancer patients.

Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate the cultural sensitivity and stereotype about immigrant women among hospital nurses. Method: Data were collected using convenient sampling from Dec. 2012 to Mar. 2013. Subjects were 122 nurses who have worked at general hospital located in Chungchoeng area. Result: The mean age of subjects was 33.85 years old. Average working period was 8.28 years. 67.2% of subjects had have experiences to travel abroad, and most of them were short travel within 1 month. 94.3% of subjects had no experience of multi-cultural education and many subjects(73%) reported that multi-cultural education was needed. On the other hand, 88.5% of them met immigrant women at their work places. So nurses were confronted with foreign patients without proper education. Conclusion: It suggested that to prepare for the coming era of globalization, an educational programs that increase the cultural sensitivity of nurses should be developed.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors influencing the intent to revisit among health screening center customers. The subjects were 195 customers of a health screening center. The intent to revisit was positively correlated with customer satisfaction and word-mouth communication. Multiple regressions showed that customer satisfaction and perceived health status explained 29% of the variance of the intent to revisit. In order to increase the intent to revisit, hospital and nursing managers should strive to improve customer satisfaction. In particular, strategies to arrange explanation of the result consultations, individual health management tailored to customers' needs, and customers-relationship management for continuing relations with the customer should be needed. In addition, it will be needed to expand the roles of nurses who are working in the health screening center from simple heath check or customer reception to active health education and continuous health screening plan after initial one.
This study was carried out to grasp visiting nurses' perception of the service referral between health and welfare with a view to providing the basic data for the visiting nursing activities. A questionnaire survey was conducted on public health nurses in 25 health centers in Seoul from Feb. 12, 2001 to Mar. 15, 2001. A total of 151 questionnaires were collected and they were analysed by use of SPSS/WIN 7.5. The results of the survey are as follows. 1. In general, visiting nurses were burdened with heavy workloads. On average, a visiting nurse covered 5 ‘dong's(the smallest administrative unit), 564 households, and 1223 persons. They spent almost a quarter of their working hours moving from home to home and recording the charts after home visiting. They took 30-60 minutes to provide their services when visiting homes. As for the frequency of home visiting, they were following the instructions recommended by the government. However, their services were still wasteful, not skill-oriented, in that they spent more time assessing ‘subjects’ rather than providing their ‘services’ for them. 2. As for the degree of service performance, visiting nurses scored average 2.94 and 2.28 on the four-point scale in the area of health and welfare respectively. The Pearson coefficient between the two variables was high(.56). According as the health services increased, the welfare services increased as well, which showed that the service referral between the two areas should be essential. 3. ‘The necessity of cooperation with social welfare staff’ scored average 4.49, and ‘the degree of cooperation with social welfare staff’ scored average 3.16 on the five-point scale; There was a statistically significant difference (average 1.33) between the two variables. Such a big difference between perception and practice results from the lack of political support that connects the two service areas comprehensively. Therefore it is recommendable to establish a so-called ‘Visiting Nursing Center’ in the ‘dong’ office in order to provide integrated services of health and welfare at once in cooperation with social welfare staff. That's the way to meet the public needs directly and it's more efficient as well in terms of cost-saving.

Participants in this study were 359 health care professionals, and 682 publics who is going to undergo endoscopy. The collected data was analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe for knowledge, attitude, and practice toward propofol in health care professionals, Pearson Correlation for its correlation. and frequencies, %, mean for others. Scores of knowledge, attitudes, and practices were 7.16 (11), 3.26 (5), 3.95 (5) respectively. Nurses' attitudes toward propofol was much more higher than doctors', doctors' practice toward propofol was higher than nurses'. There was a correlation among knowledge, attitudes, and practices toward propofol. 53.4% of the publics answered that never heard what is propofol. The study was conducted to identify the relationship between the degree of water intake and xerostomia, halitosis, and oral microorganisms in 50 elderly living in the community and to utilize them as basic data for the development of a water intake enhancing program. The relationship between the general characteristics of the subjects and the variables was found to be statistically significant in both S. mutans and P. intermedia. There were statistically significant differences in P. intermedia among three groups with different water intakes. Based on the results of this study, it is necessary to study the improvement of oral health after development and application of water intake enhancing program.
