  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the lower extremities joint moment pattern by two types of service motion in tennis pinpoint and platform stance. Seven skilled high school tennis players participated, and the kinematics were recorded by the Vicon motion analysis system. For the gathering and analysis of the data Workstation, Bodybuilder and polygon were used. joint moments and Ground Reaction Forces for the phases involved were analyzed with the following results. There was a different moment pattern for the lower extremities between the two serve motions. For the platform stance there was only a large dorsal flexion moment but for the pinpoint stance there were other large moments. The flexion and maximum moment of the lower extremities occurred at the point of change from back swing and to the forward swing motion. Therefore, this data provides evidence that there is a high risk of injury at this point.

  • Gait analysis has been conducted in various environments, but the biomechanics during the transition from uphill walking to downhill walking have not been reported. The purpose of this study is to investigate the knee and ankle joint kinematics and kinetics during walking on a triangle-shaped slope compared with those during level walking. Kinematic and kinetic data of eighteen participants were obtained using a force plate and motion capture system. The greater peak ankle dorsiflexion angle and moment and the peak knee extension moment were observed (p<0.05) during both uphill and downhill walking on the triangle-shaped slope. In summary, uphill walking on a triangle-shaped slope, which showed a peak knee flexion of more than $50^{\circ}$ with greater peak knee extension moment, could increase the risk of patellofemoral pain syndrome. Downhill walking on a triangle-shaped slope, which involved greater ankle dorsiflexion excursion and peak ankle dorsiflexion, could cause gastrocnemius muscle strain and Achilles tendon overuse injury.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate changes in mechanical properties of human tibialis anterior following eccentric exercise. Healthy subjects (n=12) performed 120 maximum eccentric contraction of ankle dorsiflexor. Before and 1- and 24- hour after the eccentric exercise, ankle dorsiflexion moment-angle relationships were obtained. Along with significant decrease in maximum isometric muscle strength, the shift of the optimum ankle joint angle toward the longer muscle length direction was observed, independent of the ranges of motion of the eccentric exercise. The results of this study demonstrated that eccentric exercise-induced micro muscle damage(Morgan & Allen, 1999) does rut seem to be a sole mechanism of eccentric contraction-induced muscle damage, suggesting further investigation for the better understandings of this phenomenon.

  • In this paper, a novel method is proposed for generating the low-power and stable walking trajectory of biped robots, and then a biped robot with 25 DOFs(degrees of freedom) is designed and implemented for the realization of the low-power walking trajectory generated by the proposed method. In our method, first a stable VPCG(vertically projected center of gravity) trajectory is generated, and then the trajectories of ankle and pelvis of a biped robot are planned to follow the preplanned stable VPCG trajectory, which produces a waking pattern without bending its knees and enables a biped robot to walk with less power consumption. On the other hand, a biped robot implemented in this paper has the mechanical structure of foot that enables a biped robot to support on the ground well, and the mechanical structure of pelvis that enables a biped robot to move flexibly. From results of the walking experiment and power consumption measurement, it was confirmed that the proposed method can generate the more stable and flexible trajectory with less power consumption compared with the existing methods which do not use the ankle of a biped robot.

  • This study was performed to evaluate the effects of Visual feed-back ankle training combined with Ankle joint Functional electrical stimulation on balance, gait ability on patient with Chronic Stroke. A total of 22 chronic stroke patients were divided into VFAF Group, CON group. Each group performed 60 minutes a day 5 times a week for 8 weeks. VFAF group revealed significant differences in balance and gait ability as compared to the CON groups(p<.05). The exercises were conducted for 60 min per day, five, per week for eight weeks. Balance and gait ability were examined at 0 week and after 8 weeks of intervention. Our results showed that VFAF was more effective on balance ability and gait ability in chronic stroke patients. We suggest that this study will be able to be used as an clinical intervention data for recovering balance and gait ability in chronic stroke patients.

  • The objective of this study is to verify the effects of the application of flossband to the ankles of healthy adults on the functional range of ankle and walking ability. Total 20 people participated in the experiment, and through the randomization, one foot was set up as experimental side while the other foot was set up as control side. To analyze the two factors(before/after intervention/experimental side and control side), the two way-repeated ANOVA was conducted. The significance level was set up as 0.05. In the results of this study, compared to the control side, the experimental side showed significant increase in WBLT and heel strike(p=.05). In the test before/after intervention, the experimental side showed significant increase in WBLT, heel strike, and toe off(p=.05). The control side showed significant increase in toe off(p=.05). Thus, the application of floss band on ankle joint performed in this study would be helpful for improving the functional range and walking ability in the sports & rehabilitation field.

  • The purpose of this study is to convergence comparison the ankle joint angle change during walking of college students in their 20s with flat foot according to the heel height of insole shoes. Qualisys Track Manager Software ver. 2.8 (Qalisys Track Manager) was used for 15 college students. Functional shoes with insoles were manufactured, and the heel heights of the shoes were set to 3cm and 7cm. The subjects wore shoes with two high heels and gaited by attaching a reflex marker to the side of the ankle joint. The angle change of the ankle joint was measured in the gait stance phase. The angle of the ankle joint significantly decreased both heel strike, foot flat, midstance, and toe off to the heel height increased when the subjects with flat feet wore insole shoes. Therefore, it is thought that flat feet should wear low shoes when wearing insoles to reduce the fatigue of the soles and to walk comfortably.

  • Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation and interferential current therapy were applied to the plantar flexor of the stroke patients, and the immediately effects on gait and ankle ROM were investigated. TENS group (n=15) and ICT group (n=15) were applied to the paretic side plantar flexor, respectively. After 60 minutes of application, evaluation of the gait and passive ankle dorsiflexion range of motion (ROM) using smartphone. After 60 minutes of application, immediate post evaluation was carried out. Two electrotherapy methods showed a significant increase in gait speed, cadence, and ankle ROM. Two electrotherapy methods were intervention methods that could increase the gait and ankle ROM of stroke patients. More subjects will be needed to pinpoint differences between the two electrotherapy methods.
