  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the differences between female and male ballet dancers in anterior cruciate ligament injury risk factors during the box drop landing task. Nine female and nine male collegiate ballet dancers participated in this study. Kinematic and ground reaction data were collected and combined with inverse dynamics to estimate the knee extensor and abductor moment. EMG data from the biceps femoris and rectus femoris were used to estimate the ratio of quadriceps-hamstrings muscle activity. No gender differences in anterior cruciate ligament injury risk factors were found during the box drop landing task. A significant relationship was found between female and male ballet dancers in the knee flexion angle.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze relating with Faucult's disciplinary power which factors influence a dancer's self-management (weight control)Total 10 ballet major undergraduate students of two respective universities in Seoul and Daijon were selected for the research and the chosen method was an interview with them. After the researchers analyzed the interview result, they found out the following several significant results. The first reason that major ballet dancers control their weight is to show their beautiful figures on the stage and to make their appearances look slender in the mirror. Dancers adapt various methods for effective weight management (diet control) such as dietary control, 1 food intake (potatoes, bananas, grapes, etc), physical force to advise or ingest (injection, taking medicines, reflexology, vomiting, etc.) Then, what is the hidden vision that makes such a practice of weight control maintain? The study presents a "mirror" as a tool of control playing a significant role, in terms that the power of discipline functions automatically in a dancer's body. In addition, another constant factor of dancers' weight management is monitoring each other's performance continuously, which is called "synopticon" Symptoms. Lastly, the fact that a question about placing a ruler could function in the continuous practice was also revealed.

  • This study is to analyze the present condition of internal dance troupes' web sites contents and through this study, we aim at suggesting beneficial plans not only for constructing better web sites and contents for national dance troupes but also for contributing to the development of national dance troupes. In order to achieve this study's object, we selected eight dance troupes that run their own web sites and examined their contents. the conclusions are as following. First, among internal professional dance troupes, Korea National Ballet, Seoul Ballet Theatre and Universal Ballet Company offer the best contents at their home pages and they have the most lively community concerned activities at their internet web sites. Second as for the web sites of municipal(provincial) dance troupes, those of Gyeonggi provincial dance troupe, Daejeon municipal dance troupe, Busan municipal dance troupe, Seoul municipal dance troupe Incheon municipal dance troupe have lots of contents briskly carried on, but those of the others need complementary measures. Third, Seoul ballet theatre and Universal Ballet Company offer lots of information about their activities to satisfy their customers and make the maximum use for public relations ; performance news, the introduction of their members, the story of ballet press reviews, new letters. On the other hand, at the web sites of Metropolitan Dance Theater Provincial Dance Company, there are much fewer contents about their activities which doesn't lead customers to visit their webs.

  • Character dance not only improves the expressive power of ballet majors, dancer and choreographers but also breathes life into the performance. Character dance, which has comprehensive educational implications, was difficult to conduct research due to lack of materials and incompleteness in the field of ballet education. Even popular concepts were not established. In order to establish the meaning of the character dance, this research examined the history of character dance from the Middle Ages to the present and the meaning and the category were also schematized. Also, I tried to find out the direction of development. Character dance through systematic categories and meaning establishment can provide extended educational forms to infants and children as well as dance majors and non-majors. This research of character dance is expected to provide basic materials not only for the ballet education but also for the various educations. Lastly, the author of this research is expecting that detailed researches will be conducted in the future.

  • Despite that it is relatively difficult to compare the movements in eastern and western dancing, this study approached hand-foot coordination movements, which involve lifting both an arm and a leg to stand on one foot, from a figurative point of view. In ballet, arabesque, developpe, and attitude were recognized as the example hand-foot coordination movements, and in Korean Dance, Oesawi, Gyeopsawi, and Meongseokmari of Mask Dance were classified into the hand-foot coordination movements. The figurative characteristics of these dances were approached from the aspects of racial traits, philosophies of dancing, and forms of movements. The following summarizes the findings about hand-foot coordination movements of this study. First, in relation to human physiology, eastern and western races have different traits. The forms of dancing have developed differently according to the builds and figures of dancers. Ballet is an elegant form of dancing using long legs and arms and its arabesque, developpe, and attitude movements emphasize stretching the body for an elegant and beautiful presentation. On the other hand, Korea was an agricultural society and lived closer to the land. As its people developed petite figures, its dancing movements, especially the hand-foot coordination movements, involved 'twisting' and 'walking down and up.' Second, despite that the hand-foot coordination movements are identical for east and west, ballet aims at the heaven and Korean Dance aims at the land according to the differences in the views of nature. Although the principle of hand-foot coordination movements is about aiming at the land, western philosophies and aesthetics pursue the heaven. Third, in ballet, the focus of beauty is the presentation of beautiful movements. Therefore, the hand-foot coordination movements precisely control the position and angle of arms and legs for the perfect balance of the body. On the other hand, the hand-foot coordination movements of Korean Dance are mostly rooted from natural daily movements and movements that enhance the efficiency of labor. Therefore, it is considered beautiful techniques even if the body looks rather unbalanced.

  • This thesis attempted to examine the mechanization of humans, humanization of machines, and coexistence through dance works. The dance works were reviewed by partial excerpts from Oscar Schlemer's <3 Chord Ballet>, Felindrome Dance Company's , and . Also, I looked at the dance work , which has an inherent form of coexistence. Through the above work, robot-like science and technology and fusion. It was found that various dance performances that coexist in complex forms provide continuous creativity to humans, and various forms of sensibility and creative movements based on data make it possible to produce rich performances for humans. This researcher expects numerous works that accept and reflect the changes of the times through the embodied interaction of dance performances with science and technology.

  • In the creation of non-verbal dance performance, stage costumes are an important element of visual expression and serve an expanded role in addition to its fundamental decorativeness, representation of status reflective of the historical setting of the act and functionality for the dance movement. We intends that the purpose of this research is to analyze the expanded role of the costumes in the creative ballet <'That' Girl>, and through this exercise, provide foundational data on and suggest new future directions for stage costume design. <'That' Girl> is composed of two acts, offering condolences and eliciting empathy by conveying the fear experienced by the victims of the time. The second dance act representing freedom and "Haan" requires this expanded application of costume design. The costume design was inspired by the "Statue of Peace" representing comfort women, and completed through three draft designs and material experiments testing the ease of operation of the strings and fabrics installed in the costumes as well as the functionality of the associated ballet movements. In conclusion, expansion of time & space, expansion of form and expansion of symbolic expression were shown in the dance of liberation using strings wrapped around the arms and through the cloth embodying 'Haan' hidden in front of the costume.
