Effects of Reactive Diluents on the Curing Behavior of Epoxy Resin (에폭시 수지의 경화 거동에 미치는 반응성 희석제의 영향)

  • Curing behavior and glass transition temperatures of epoxy resins into which reactive diluents were added to control processability were investigated. Heat of cure generated of the epoxy resin was reduced with butyl glycidyl ether(BGE) and phenyl glycidyl ether(PGE) contents. $T_g$ of the resin was decreased with the amount of reactive diluents and it was attributed to increased molecular weight between crosslink points. Cure kinetics of the resins was studied employing autocatalytic reaction model and found that reaction constants decreased as the contents of reactive diluent was increased.

  • In this study, low-viscosity polyurethane hot-melt were synthesized with polyether polyol / polyester polyol, 4,4-dicyclohexylmethane diisocyanate ($H_{12}MDI$), 2-butanone oxime (MEKO) to improve the properties and peel strength. The properties of the synthesized low-viscosity polyurethane hot-melt was evaluated through FT-IR, viscosity meter and UTM. When the content of the reactive diluent increases and the NCO-blocked prepolymer decreases, the viscosity of low-viscosity polyurethane hot-melt adhesive was increased. When the ratio of OH-terminated oligomer, NCO-blocked prepolymer and content of reactive diluent is 1 : 0.5 : 0.5, low-viscosity polyurethane hot-melt showed 1.1 kgf/cm peel strength.

Void Formation Mechanism of Thermoset (열경화성 수지의 기공 생성 원인)

  • The formation mechanism of void defect which deteriorate composite's property is various according to each composite process. In this paper, void formation and growth mechanism is analyzed by thermal analysis and GC/MS. We made a vacuum chamber for observing pressure effect. Thermal analysis has been done in various condition. Elements of volatiles during resin curing were turned out by GC/MS. The most of volatiles of polyester were composed of styrene (over 80%) and a small quantity of toluene. In case epoxy resin, butyl glycidyl ether was the main element of volatiles (over 90%). We concluded that the original sites of void growth existed in resin and they were eliminated by vacuum and heating process. And the growth of void was influenced by water, diluents, solvent, and reactants in resin.

  • In this study, we synthesized UV-curable urethane acrylates with different contents of BA, reactive diluent and characterized their physical properties such as thermal, mechanical properties, adhesive strength and flexibility resistance. From a result of DSC, Tg of polyol and acrylate resin were separated as the BA content increased more than 40%. Also, tensile strength, elongation and adhesive strength decreased with increasing the BA content. The UV-curable urethane acrylate with 40% BA has shown good flexibility resistance compared to other resin due to poor hardness and Tm of acrylate resin.

  • To investigate the morphological effect on synthesis of aluminum nitride by SHS Process, two type of Al Powder (granular and flacky shape) with the mean size of 34 $\mu$m and the diluent AIN powders of four different mean sizes.0.12, 9.7, 39.3, 50.5 $\mu$m, were used to prepare green compact. The packing density was fixed to $35 TD\%. The initial pressure of $N_{2}$ and diluent fraction was varied in the range of $1\~10 MPa,\;0.4\~0.7$, respectively. AlN with high purity of $98\% or over and large particle size of about several tens fm can be synthesized by SHS reaction as a consequence of adjusting particle size of AlN dilutent similarly to that of Al reactant. This may be caused by improvement of $N_{2}$ gas permeation to compact after passing the propagation wave. In the case of flaky-shape aluminum used as reactant, instead of granular Al-powder, unstable combustion would be occurred. As the result, irregular propagation of combustion wave and falling-off of maximum temperature would be observed during the reaction.

Experimental Study on Cellular Instabilities in Diluted Syngas-Air Premixed Flames (희석제가 첨가된 합성가스-공기 예혼합화염에 있어서 셀 불안정성에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • Experiments were conducted to investigate the effects of added diluents (carbon dioxide, nitrogen, and helium) on cellular instabilities in outwardly propagating spherical syngas-air premixed flames. Laminar burning velocities and Markstein lengths were measured by analyzing high-speed schlieren images at various diluent concentrations and equivalence ratios. Experimental results showed substantial reduction of the laminar burning velocities and of the Markstein lengths with the diluent additions in the fuel blends. Effective Lewis numbers of helium-diluted syngas-air flames increased but those of carbon dioxide- and nitrogen-diluted syngas-air flames decreased in increase of diluents in the reactant mixtures. With helium diluent, the propensity for cells formation was significantly diminished, whereas the cellular instabilities for carbon dioxide- and nitrogen-diluted syngas-air flames were not suppressed.

Characteristics of Ammonia Removal by Natural Neutralizer (천연중화제를 이용한 암모니아 제거특성)

  • The characteristics of ammonia removal by natural neutralizer were studied by using a scrubber type equipment. As operation parameters, neutralizer dilution ratio, neutralizer inlet flowrate, air flowrate and initial ammonia concentration were selected and their effects on ammonia removal efficiency were investigated. The optimal removal effect was achieved at neutralizer dilution ratio of 1.0% and neutralizer inlet flowrate of $60m{\ell}/min$. On the other hand, with respect to air flowrate and initial ammonia concentration, there was no significant effect on removal efficiency, when loading rate was considered. In addition, ammonia removal reaction was investigated by analyzing the ammonia oxides, such as nitrites and nitrates, after reacting ammonium solution with natural neutralizer. The result shows a partial oxidation by natural neutralizer besides dominant absorption of ammonia.

  • Succinic acid has recently been drawing much interest as a raw material for biodegradable polymer. In this study acetic acid was removed by reactive extraction with various amines dissolved in various diluents. Distribution coefficients were determined as the kind of amines, diluents, and pHs of continuous phase. The extraction capacity increased with the polarity of diluent and the decrease of pH from the artificial binary solution. Based on the different extractability for succinic acid and acetic acid from the artificial binary solution, the removal of acetic acid from fermentation broth was investigated using various amines and diluents. In addition, the extractability and selectivity of CLA for succinic acid and acetic acid from fermentation broth were higher than that of straight solvent extraction.

  • Physicochemical properties of HBA epoxy resins were controlled by varying hardener mixture and reactive diluent to improve applicability for stone conservation. The epoxy risen comprises hydrogenated Bisphenol-A based epoxide (HBA), fast curing agent (FH), slow curing agent poly(propyleneglycol)bis(2- aminopropylether) (SH) and difunctional polyglycidyl epoxide (DPE). Talc was used as an inorganic additive. The changes in viscosity and temperature during curing reactions depending on the composition of the epoxy resins were investigated. Additionally, bending, tensile and adhesive strengths were measured to identify the effective mechanical strength in stone conservation. Finally various compositions of epoxy resin/inorganic additives were developed for stone conservation by controlling cure kinetics and mechanical properties.

Application Of Reactive Extraction to Biologica1 Production of Succinic Acid (생물학적 숙신산 생산을 위한 반응추출공정의 적용)

  • Succinic acid is an important material in industries producing biodegradable polymers, food and pharmaceutical products, and green solvents. Furthermore, succinate fermentation is a novel process due to the fixation of $CO_2$ into succinate during fermentation. However, the impurities in fermentation broth make the separation process of succinic acid be difficult. Reactive extraction has been proposed to be an effective primary separation step of succinic acid from dilute fermentation broth. This article presents the principles of reactive extraction along with the characteristics of tertiary amino extractants. A brief overview on the current research on reactive extraction of succinic acid is presented. Finally, for the succinic acid separation, reactive extraction as a primary step is suggested in the whole downstream process for succinic acid from fermentation broth.
