The 2nd order response surface method (RSM) has been carried out to get optimum thermal design for enhanced heat transfer on square channel with bleed holes. The RSM was used as an optimization technique with Reynolds-averaged navier-stokes equation. Turbulence model for heat transfer analysis used RNG k-epsilon model. The wall function used enhanced wall function. Numerical local heat transfer coefficients were similar to the experimental tendency. Two design variables such as attack angle of rib (${\alpha}$), rib pitch-to-rib height ratio (p/e) were chosen. Operation condition considered bleeding ratio per bleed hole ($BR_{hole}$). A response surface were constructed by the design variables and operation condition. As a result, adjusted $R^2$ was more than 0.9. Optimization results of various objective function were similar to heat transfer in channel with and without bleed flow. But friction factor was lower than channel without bleed flow.

An analytical study has been performed to investigate the unsteady ignition characteristics of pulse combustion. In many combustion applications, strain rate of the flow can significantly affect the combustion features; ignition, extinction, and reignition. In the pulse combustion, two jets (hot combustion gases and fresh mixtures) coming from the opposite side of the combustor will collide in the combustor forming a stagnation region where the chemical reaction is suppressed by the strain rate until this becomes below the critical value. In this research, the method of large activation energy asymptotic is adopted with one step irreversible kinetics to examine the ignition response to the periodic variation of the strain rate of flow. The results show the variation of the maximum value of strain rate can determine whether the ignition or extinction occur.

Fig.2.

Bifurcation behavior of ignition and extinction of catalytic reaction is theoretically investigated in a stagnation-point flow. Considering that reaction takes place only on the catalytic surface, where conductive heat losses are allowed to occur, activation energy asymptotics with a overall one-step Arrhenius-type catalytic reaction is employed. For the cases with and without the limiting reactant consumption, the analysis provides explicit expressions, which indicate the possibility of multiple steady-state solution branches. The difference between the solutions with and without reactant consumption is in the existence of an upper solution branch, and the neglect of reactant consumption is inappropriate for determining extinction conditions. For larger values of reactant consumption, the solution response is all monotone, suggesting that multiple solutions are not possible. It is shown that bifurcation Damkohler numbers increase (decrease) with increasing of conductive heat loss (gain) on the catalytic surface, which means that smaller (larger) values of the strain rate allow the surface reaction to tolerate larger heat losses (gains). Lewis number of the limiting reactant can also significantly affect bifurcation behavior in a similar way to the effect of heat loss.
A numerical procedure for optimizing the shape of three-dimensional channel with V-shaped ribs extruded on both walls has been carried out to enhance the turbulent heat transfer. The response surface based optimization is used as an optimization technique with Reynolds-averaged Wavier-stoked analysis. Shear stress transport (SST) turbulence model is used as a turbulence closure. Computational results for average heat transfer rate show good agreements with experimental data. The objective function is defined as a linear combination of heat transfer and friction loss-related terms with a weighting factor. Three dimensionless variables such as, rib pitch-to-rib height ratio, rib height-to-channel height ratio, and the attack angle of the rib are chosen as design variables. Nineteen training points obtained by D-optimal designs for three design variables construct a reliable response surface. In the sensitivity analysis, it is found that the objective function is most sensitive to the ratio of rib height-to-channel height ratio. And, optimal values of design variables have been obtained in a range of the weighting factor.
Electrochemical behavior of surface active Osmium bipyridine complex adsorbed in a monomolecular layer on tin oxide electrodes by the Langmuir-Blodgett method was studied. Theoretical equation of cyclic voltammetry of electrode reactions for redox species adsorbed as monolayer form was discussed by reversible and quasi-reversible waves. The film was transferred onto the $SnO_2$ electrode surface and then amounts of charge on the electrode were measured in the technique of cyclic voltammetry. The electron transfer mediation of these monolayer with $Fe^{2+}$, TEMPOL and others were studied. And the cyclic voltammetry were simulated by taking into account the interaction parameters. From these values, we found it possible to fit almost all measured cyclic voltammograms with these parameters. The recent works and directions using LB method were introduced with various applicable field.

In this study, simultaneous aero-structural design was performed for HALE aircraft wing. The span and the shape of main spar were considered as design variables. To maximize aerodynamic performance and to minimize weight, multi-objective optimization was used. Nonlinear static aeroelastic analysis was performed to compute large deflection of wing. Design of experiment and response surface method were used to reduce computation cost in the design process. Also, aerodynamic performances of deformed wing and rigid wing were compared.

One of the most useful method for increasing combustion loading of premixed flame is to strengthen the turbulent intensity of unburned mixture. It produces an important information to a design of efficient combustion equipment that analysing microstructure of strong turbulence premixed flame. The flame structure and characteristics are depend on the turbulence of unburned mixture. Therefore, to strengthen the turbulent intensity of unburned mixture make flame scale small and accomplish efficient combustion. We measured the velocity of local flame front movements, local eddy radius and local reaction zone thickness quantitatively with increasing turbulent intensity of unburned mixture. We researched the microstructure of flame using ion currents that react sensitively in the reaction zone. Consequently, the velocity of local flame front movements is depend on the velocity of unburned mixture and local eddy scale is to be small with increasing turbulent intensity. But there is no change in local reaction zone thickness with turbulence.
Shape of a multi-blades centrifugal fan is optimized by response surface method based on three-dimensional Navier-Stokes analysis. For numerical analysis, Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations with standard $k-{epsilon}$ turbulence model are transformed into non-orthogonal curvilinear coordinate system, and are discretized with finite volume approximations. Due to the large number of blades in this centrifugal fan, the flow inside of the fan is regarded as steady flow by introducing the impeller force models for economic calculations. Optimizations with and without constraints are carried out. Design variables, location of cur off, radius of cut off, expansion angle of scroll and width of impeller were selected to optimize the shapes of scroll and blades. Data points for response evaluations were selected by D-optimal design, and linear programming method was used for the optimization on the response surface. As a main result of the optimization, the efficiency was successfully improved. The correlation of efficiency with relative size of inactive zone at the exit of impeller is discussed as well as with average momentum fluxes in the scroll.

Optimization of the aircraft panel assembly constructed by skin and stringers is investigated. For the design of panel assembly of the aircraft structure, it is necessary to determine the best shape of the stringer which accomplishes lowest weight under the condition of no instability. A panel assembly can fail in a variety of instability modes under compression. Overall modes of flexure or torsion can occur and these can interact in a combined flexural/torsion mode. Flexure and torsion can occur symmetrically or anti-symmetrically. Local instabilities can also occur. The local instabilities considered in this paper are buckling of the free and attached flanges, the stiffener web and the inter-rivet buckling. A program is developed to find out critical load for each instability mode at the specific stringer shape. Based on the developed program, optimization is performed to find optimum stringer shape. The developed instability analysis program is not adequate for sensitivity analysis, therefore RSM (Response Surface Method) is utilized instead to model weight and instability constraints. Since the problem has many local minimum, Genetic algorithm is utilized to find global optimum.
