  • The purpose of this study is to analyze and illustrate 'Rhizome', a postmodern speculation system based on de-subjectivity and decentralization, presented by Gilles Deleuze. He borrowed the word rhizome, an originally botanical term meaning a horizontal stem under the surface of the earth, to counteract the dominating system grounded on binary, root-tree structure. The study then criticizes the early movements of de-subjectivity with molecular-biological and evolutionary evidences, and proves that these evidences can only be characterized by chance and nomadism, which are the key elements that constitute Rhizome. As a practical example of Rhizome, the study analyzes the film by Gus Van Sant, and demonstrates that both his various cinematic experiments and the result bear the same characteristics as Rhizome.

In terms of the analysis method, coding was used to extract the theme of the content, and through the constant comparison method, categorizing took place. As the element that offers adaption in the adaptive learning system, it escapes from the existing learning style, and recognized the importance of providing adaptability for different elements such as the learner's level, learning objectives, and learning contents. • This study examined the meaning of instructional materials by observing the daily work of an infant class in a daycare center to make some suggestions on the accreditation and evaluation of instructional materials for early childhood education and educare. Ethnography was chosen to determine in detail what the instructional materials meant for the selected preschoolers. The activities that belonged to each area of free optional activities and made use of instructional materials were observed, and the eating time, nap time, and outdoor play were all observed. The data were gathered by visiting the selected daycare center. A participant observation and teacher interviews were conducted, and notes were taken on the spot. When their verbal expressions and nonverbal expressions needed to be observed owing to their unique characteristics, a camcorder was used to record their words to have a more profound understanding of them. All the collected data that included this researcher's observation note, the teacher interview data, the standard childcare curriculum manual, the daycare center's yearly, and the daily childcare plans and curriculum evaluation data were classified and categorized by performing an inductive analysis. As a result, the instructional materials had three meanings for the infants. The first was "friends who welcomed them and whom they could play with.' The second was "a cozy nest," and the third was "another teacher." Given the findings of the study, the preparation of standards for instructional materials for infants in childcare facilities is required, and even equipment that is used as instructional materials should be taken into consideration when instructional materials for infants are accredited.

  • This research is a comparative analysis of article titles in the beginning period of Korean newspapers. The Independent, The Korea Daily News and The Dong-A Ilbo were chosen for this research because each was the representative newspaper of 1890s, 1900s and $1920s{\sim}1930s$ respectively. In result, The Independent's article titles had been appeared on nearly 2 years after its first issue. Before the appearance of titles, The Independent had divided articles only with section names. In 1900s, The Korean Daily News's article titles was longer than those of The independent. And in 1910, the titles of The Korean Daily News had been placed on separated line to divide articles clearly. But during these period, typographical development of titles was not shown and the width of title was remained in one column. This means, the function of title in these periods was not to represent the value of article but only to divide the articles. In 1920s, The Dong-A Ilbo had used big size types and multi-column edit and those changes enabled newspaper to introduce the concept of layout. During the decade of 1930s, The Dong-A Ilbo's titles had occupied more space on newspaper than earlier period. This could be explained from the perspective of sensationalism of commercial newspaper and a tendency of putting more weight on titles. On the dimension of expression, proportions of subjective titles in The Independent, The Korea Daily News were 44.4% and 28.3% each, but the subjective titles of The Dong-A Ilbo in 1920's were only 4.2%. This decrease can be explained by the settlement of objective journalism in Korean newspapers during $1920s{\sim}1930s$.
