High Resolution Seismic Reflection Method Using S-Waves: Case Histories for Ultrashallow Bedrocks (S파를 이용한 고해상도 탄성파 반사법 탐사: 지반표층부에 대한 적용사례)

  • This paper demonstrates the feasibility of using shallow S-wave, high-resolution seismic reflection surveys to characterize geological structure and stratigraphy of basement rocks for civil engineering purposes. S-wave seismic reflections from depths less than 20 m were recorded along the top of steep readout slopes. Seismic reflection data were recorded using a standard CDP acquisition method with a 24-channel seismograph and a sledge-hammer SH-wave source. The data were acquired using a split-spread source-receiver geometry with a 2 m shot-and-receiver interval, and then were processed to enhance S/N ratio of the data, to improve resolvable power of the seismic section, and to get velocity information of the basement rock. The final seismic reflection profiles using the CDP technique has imaged surfaces as shallow as less than 1m and resolved beds as thin as 1m. The migrated reflection sections possess sufficient quality to correlate the prominent reflection events to the bedding planes and faults identified on the readout outcrops. Similar S-wave reflection surveys could also be used to produce the necessary details of a geological structure of shallow bedrocks to pinpoint optimum locations for monitor wells of civil engineering purposes.

Analytical Method of Partial Standing Wave-Induced Seabed Response in Finite Soil Thickness under Arbitrary Reflection (임의반사율의 부분중복파동장에서 유한두께를 갖는 해저지반 내 지반응답의 해석법)

  • Most analytical solutions for wave-induced soil response have been mainly developed to investigate the influence of the progressive and standing waves on the seabed response in an infinite seabed. This paper presents a new analytical solution to the governing equations considering the wave-induced soil response for the partial standing wave fields with arbitrary reflectivity in a porous seabed of finite thickness, using the effective stress based on Biot's theory (Biot, 1941) and elastic foundation coupled with linear wave theory. The newly developed solution for wave-seabed interaction in seabed of finite depth has wide applicability as an analytical solutions because it can be easily extended to the previous analytical solutions by varying water depth and reflection ratio. For more realistic wave field, the partial standing waves caused by the breakwaters with arbitrary reflectivity are considered. The analytical solutions was verified by comparing with the previous results for a seabed of infinite thickness under the two-dimensional progressive and standing wave fields derived by Yamamoto et al.(1978) and Tsai & Lee(1994). Based on the analytical solutions derived in this study, the influence of water depth and wave period on the characteristics of the seabed response for the progressive, standing and partial standing wave fields in a seabed of finite thickness were carefully examined. The analytical solution shows that the soil response (including pore pressure, shear stress, horizontal and vertical effective stresses) for a seabed of finite thickness is quite different in an infinite seabed. In particular, this study also found that the wave-induced seabed response under the partial wave conditions was reduced compared with the standing wave fields, and depends on the reflection coefficient.

  • The purpose of this paper is recovery of the profiles of the wave speed and density from the reflection coefficients of the continuously layered acoustic medium with depth dependent density and wave speed at various angles of incidence. A downward continuation or layer stripping algorithm, which recursively reconstructs the medium in increasing depth and then strips away the effects of the reconstructed portion of the medium, is the method with fewer computations than integral equation procedures. This paper implements an improved downward continuation algorithm that uses reflection data at several angles of incidence and performs a least-squares fitting at each depth. The result is a considerable improvement in performance over the usual downward continuation algorithm.

High Fidelity Calculation of Thermal Load in a Satellite Orbit (고정확도의 인공위성 궤도 열하중 계산 기법)

  • This paper discusses the efficient high fidelity calculation of external thermal loads of a spacecraft on its orbit. Thermal loads to a spacecraft consist of three major components, direct solar radiation, earth reflection of solar rays, and earth irradiation. With the assumption that both earth reflection and earth emission are diffuse, thermal loads from earth surface divided into pieces of segments to satellite surfaces are individually calculated and summed over. By using analytical integration of both reflected and emitted heat load by earth, high rate of numerical convergence is achieved and the results are even exactly calculated in special cases. Moreover, KD tree ray tracing is employed in the calculation of thermal load to determine whether the radiated ray is obstructed or not by satellite structure.

  • 본 연구에서는 티센망을 이용한 면적강우량 산정방법의 대안으로서 최근 들어 수자원공학 분야에의 활용성이 커지고 있는 고해상도 기상레이더의 반사도자료(dBZ)를 활용하여 면적강우량을 산정하였다. 또한 이렇게 산정된 레이더 면적강우량을 티센망으로써 산정된 면적강우량과 비교하여 그 유용성을 판단하였다. 연구지역으로는 소양강댐 유역을 선정하였으며, 연구기간은 2008년 가장 강한 강우를 보였던 상위 5개의 사상을 선정하였다. 본 연구에서는 레이더 반사도를 강우강도로 변환시키는 과정은 인공신경망(artificial neural network, ANN) 중에서 일반적으로 널리 사용되고 있는 다층 퍼셉트론 인공신경망 모형을 적용하였다. 연구방법으로는 선택된 4개의 인자를 입력노드에 넣어 인공신경망을 학습시킨 후 연구지역 내 10개 AWS 지상관측소의 강우량을 추정하여 정확도를 비교 분석하였다. 이를 바탕으로 최종적으로 레이더 면적강우량을 산정하여 기존의 티센망을 이용한 면적강우량과 그 값을 비교하였다. 그 결과 인공신경망을 이용한 레이더 강우량의 경우, 평균제곱오차(mean square error, MSE) 및 상관계수(correlation coefficient, CC)가 매우 양호한 값을 보였다. 또한 유역 내 레이더 면적강우량이 티센망을 이용한 면적강우량에 비하여 약 $7%^{\sim}19%$ 정도 차이가 발생함을 확인하였으며, 레이더 면적강우량이 티센망을 이용한 면적강우량에 비하여 더 정확한 면적강우량을 산정할 수 있다고 판단된다.

An Analysis of the Figure of Merit depending on the cut-off size of a Small Reflector for Satellite Broadcast Receiving Antenna (위성방송 수신용 소형 반사면 안테나의 절단 크기에 따른 성능지수의 분석)

  • In this paper, the reduction of the figure of merit depending on the increased spill-over when the parabolic reflector is cut off partially for low-profile configuration in the satellite broadcast receiving antenna is analyzed. Also for the accurate analysis and simulation, it is considered that the noise temperature is increased due to the effect of ground thermal noise toword the sidelobes and back lobes when the antenna is tracked from $0^{\circ}$ to $60^{\circ}$ in elevation angle, and that the total noise temperature is increased because to the noise figure of LNA. As the results, noise temperature is increased up to about 15K and G/T ratio is decreased to about 2.5dB, when the reflector is cut 35% off partially.

  • Makeup simulation is a tool that tests various makeup methods on a virtual digital face using input and display devices. Although several simulation systems supporting various makeup styles have been recently developed, most systems have many limitations on realistic skin representations because they use 2D facial images. We develope a realistic makeup simulation method which can control skin reflectance and roughness parameters. The method allows a user to simulate makeup applications while changing skin parameters using high-resolution facial data acquired by 3D scanners. Besides we use a point-based shape representation which enables simple and flexible 3D rendering, and provide a more realistic makeup simulation by applying different skin parameters on each part of the face.

Charactericstics of Glass-Ceramic having High Efficiency Diffuse Reflectance and Fabrication of Laser Cavity (MAS계 결정화유리를 이용한 레이저 여기용 공진기의 제작 및 특성분석)

  • 적외선 확산반사형 결정화유리를 응용한 레이저 여기용 공진기를 제작하여 미세구조 분석 및 레이저 여기 효율특성을 조사하였다. 출발물질로는 Cordierite를 주결정상으로 하는 MAS(MgO, $Al_2O_3$, $SiO_2$) 3성분계 조성에 결정화 유도용 조핵제로 $TiO_2$를 첨가하였으며, 형성된 유리 용융물을 흑연제 몰드에 부어 공진기를 제조하였다. 용융물 중 일부를 2단계 열처리를 행하여 상분석을 실시한 결과 Cordierite($2MgO{\cdot}2Al_2O_3{\cdot}5SiO_2$)와 Rutile($TiO_2$)이 주결정상으로 관찰되었으며, 열처리 온도를 변화시켜 생성된 입자의 크기에 따른 확산반사율간의 관계를 조사한 결과, $1100{\sim}1200nm$에서 열처리된 시편의 경우 $500{\sim}2200nm$의 영역에서 95% 이상의 확산반사율을 나타내었다. 대표적인 고체레이저인 Nd:YAG의 경우, $700{\sim}900nm$ 파장이 주흡수대이며, 이를 결정화유리로 제조된 공진기의 레이저 효율특성실험에 이용하였다. 수냉 및 단일 펄스의 조건에서 $1.7{\sim}1.9%$의 효율을 나타내었다.

  • 최근 자연계에 존재하는 광학 구조체를 모사하여 우수한 반사 방지 효과를 표면에 구현하고자 하는 연구가 이루어지고 있으며, 특히 우수한 무반사 특성을 가지고 있는 나방의 눈 구조를 모사하여 응용하고자 하는 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 하지만, 주로 폴리머를 기판으로 하여 구현되는 모스아이 구조의 필름은 기계적 성질이 좋지 않아 문제가 되고 있다. 따라서, 본 연구에서는 모스아이 나노구조가 형성된 폴리머 기판에 비해 기계적 물성이 우수한 $Al_2O_3$ 물질을 적용하여, 모스아이 패턴의 기계적 특성을 향상 시키면서도, 모스아이 패턴이 가지는 고유의 우수한 광학적 성질을 유지시키기 위한 실험을 진행하였다. 모스아이 패턴의 광학적 성질을 유지하기 위해서는 나노구조 돌기상에 위치에 따른 두께 차이가 최소화된 균일한 코팅층을 형성하여 그 구조를 유지시킬 필요가 있으므로 이러한 구조물상에 단차피복성(Step Coverage)이 우수하고 sub-nm 단위의 정밀한 두께 조절이 용이한 원자층 증착법(Atomic layer deposition, ALD)을 이용하여 박막을 증착하였다.

Design of Patch Array Antenna for UAV with Horn Reflector (혼 반사기를 적용한 UAV용 패치배열 안테나 설계)

  • In this paper, we studied an antenna that forms a wide beam width by applying a horn-shaped reflector to a patch array antenna. To implement a wide beam width, three patches were arranged in each of the four directions on a square microstrip substrate, and a horn-shaped reflector was applied to the rear of the array antenna. Through this structure, the vertical beam pattern formed from the patch was converted to a diagonal direction, and as a result, the beam widths formed in each of the four sectors were added to create a wide beam width close to a hemisphere. The proposed antenna was studied for application to UAV(unmanned aerial vehicle), and the simulation test results confirmed that the 4.5 dBi beam width was 146.8°.
