The optimization of output coupler reflectivity of high repetitive pulsed Nd:YAG laser system adopted 3-mesh parallel sequential charge and discharge method (3단 병렬 충.방전 방식을 적용한 고반복 펄스형 Nd:YAG 레이저 출력거울 반사율의 최적화)

  • The optimization of resonator and laser power supply has been considered to be significant for improving the efficiency of a pulsed Nd:YAG laser system. We have proposed a new method of 3-mesh parallel sequential charge and discharge circuit as a laser power supply; more compact than conventional power supply, competitive in price, easy to control the laser power density according to various material processing, and equipped with the optimum reflectivity of output coupler. In this study, we could find that the maximum laser output was obtained by using 85% of reflectivity in the case of 50[W]-class. In addition using the power supply of new method, it's possible to charge each capacitor bank with a higher energy within the given charging time adopted a new method mentioned above; namely, we can allow each capacitor to have much more charging time and storage energy. So, higher laser output was obtained than conventional power supply.

  • The coastline of Hampyung Bay, southwestern coast of Korea, was examined and measured in the field for the understanding of geomorphic changes and sea-cliff erosion processes. The Hampyung-Bay coastline is characterized by steep-face slope and soft soil and/or intensively weathered rock composition. Saw teeth-shaped coastline, and relict weathered basement-rock and "Island Stack" exposed on the beach surface are peculiar geomorphic features indicating active sea-cliff erosion. The coastline in the study area is continuously retreating with the following cyclic process: erosion of cliff base, gravitational landslide or mass wasting, formation of talus, and then erosion and removal of talus. In this study, sea-level rise during summer in the west coast of Korea is suggested as one of the key factors fur the removal of soil taluses and, thereby, accelerating sea-cliff erosion.f erosion.

The Relationship between Grain Design and Non-uniform Ablation of Solid Rocket Insulation (추진제 형상과 연소관 단열재 불균일 삭마의 관계)

  • In order to relieve the burden of the rear ablative material, the combustion test of the solid rocket motor with the forward deployed multi-pin grain design was successfully performed twice. However, after disassembling the solid rocket motor, a non-uniform ablation pattern was found in the rear ablative material. Periodic repetition of local and regional ablation was measured precisely. Two-dimensional flow and eddy flow, created by the uneven main-pin flow hitting the rear ablative material, were identified as the cause of non-uniform ablation. In addition. when the rear pins were removed, the possibility of securing the soundness of the rear ablative material was confirmed as the average flow velocity and the standard deviation were lowered.

  • Tunnel modelling in the field of geotechnical engineering essentially requires models of tunnelling machines and the simulation of tunnelling processes to clarify the detailed behaviour of tunnel construction. Modern advanced mechatronics, including construction processes, machinining and control technologies, are making it possible to fabricate such models. These technologies, however, are essentially developed in a gravity field condition and are needed to examine in a 1g or cenrifuge field condition. This paper presents the simulation method for tunnelling processes and the design method for tunnelling machines with special reference to the problem of earth pressure acting on the lining of a shield tunnel. The paper then introduces and verifies the design method for tunnelling machines in the 1g field by means of checking the reproduceability of experiment data and their comparison with data in the field.

Rotated Face Detection Using Symmetry Detection (대칭성 검출에 의한 회전된 얼굴검출)

  • In many face recognition applications such as security systems, it is assumed that upright faces are given to the system. In order for the system to be used in more general environments, the system should be able to deal with the rotated faces properly. It is a generally used approach to rotate the face detection window and apply face detector repeatedly to detect a rotated face in the given image. But such an approach requires a lot of computation time. In this paper, a method of extracting the axis of symmetry for a given set of points is proposed. The axis of symmetry for the edge points in the face detection window is extracted in a way that is fast and accurate, and the face detector is applied only for that direction. It is shown that the mean and standard deviation of the symmetry detection error is $0^{\circ}$ and $3^{\circ}$ respectively, for the database used.

The Multi-layer Neural Network for Direct Control Method of Nonlinear System (비선형 시스템의 직접제어방식을 위한 다층 신경회로망)

  • In this paper, we proposed a multi-layer neural network for direct control method of nonlinear system. The proposed control method uses neural network as the controller to learn inverse model of plant. The neural network used consists of two parts; one part is for identification of linear part, and the other is for identification of nonlinear part of inverse system. The neural network has to be learned the liner part with RLS algorithm and the nonlinear part with error of plant. From the simulation and experiment of tracking control to use one link manipulator as plant, we proved usefulness of the proposed control method to comparing to conventional direct neural network control method. By comparing the two methods, from simulation and experiment, we were convinced that the proposed control method is more simple and accuracy than the conventional method. Moreover, number of weight and bias to be controller parameter are small, and it has smaller steady state error than conventional method.

  • This paper is a study of a prevention of power folding controller's thermal degradation. Power folding technology has been applied for many fields such as side rear vision mirror of vehicles, windshield wiper, antenna, power window. These controllers have been comprised with traditional DC moors, Switching electronic devices, and relays. But this methods have a limitation to overcome such problems of product reliability, endurance, noise margins. Therefore on this paper, to detect the movement of motor, sensing motor brush noise on a load sensing part has been used and controlling a precise RC timing control minimizes the thermal deterioration of motor. And using MOS FETs as a electronic switching device increases life-time and liability of control circuit. After testing such circuit and control method, repetition of operating time, cut-off time, wide operation voltage, power noise margin ware increased over eleven-fold.

  • This paper aimes to study a refraction errors developed in the inclined leveling route. Based on Kukkamaki's theory and morden meteorology, the author devised an experiment to test how Kukkamaki's corrections was improved the discrepancy between fore and back leveling in actual slope. Additionally, through the repeated observation between fore and back leveling at one fixed station in the slope and experimental test of continuous inclined leveling route, the author studied the effects of refraction and its characteristics. We carried out leveling and temperature measurements in the continuous inclined leveling route of about 1.5km, and consequently, Kukkamaki's refraction correction values using these respective C=-0.1 and -1/3 values could improve the similar discrepancy.

Evaluation of the Seismic Performance for Domestic URM Buildings Using Nonlinear Dynamic Analysis (비선형 동적해석을 통한 국내 비보강 조적조 건축물의 내진성능 평가)

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the seismic performance of domestic unreinforced masonry(URM) buildings using nonlinear dynamic analysis. For that, the nonlinear hysteresis models suggested in the previous research were validated for the dynamic analysis. The results of the shaking table test were compared with the dynamic analysis results using the suggested nonlinear hysteresis models. As a result, the nonlinear hysteresis models were expected to be applicable to the dynamic analysis of URM buildings. Based on the models, the dynamic analysis of domestic URM buildings varying the number of stories and opening ratio was carried out. The analysis results showed that most of the domestic URM buildings were very vulnerable to design earthquake in Korea.

Change of Agronomic Traits of Tillering Isogenic Lines under Different Seedling Density in Barley (보리 분얼성 동질유전자계통의 재식밀도 조절에 따른 특성 변화)

  • Several major agronomic traits of 4 isogenic lines for tillering(Kindred, Morex)were investigated under the different seeding rates and seedling mortality grown in the pots. The normal-tillering phenotypes had higher grain yield(46%) and leaf area index(56%) than their uniculm isogenic counterparts. The assortment rate(69%) and 1,000 grain weight(27%) in uniculm type were greater than the normal type. Uniculm plants were earlier in heading(4∼8days) and maturing(2∼3 days) dates compared with their counterparts. The grain yield was fitted to linear regression, ranged 0.659g to 0.5g per spike number. On increasing the seedling mortality rates, the grains per spike and 1,000 grain weight were slightly decreased, but the grain yield per plot was decreased markedly because of decrease of spikes per plot. The assortment rate, leaf photosynthetic capacity and reproductive tiller number were increased with increase of seedling mortality. The grain yield was largely dependent on the number of spikes per plot on occurrence of seedling mortality. For the uniculm genotypes to be introduced and bred into a present leading variety, the isogenic lines were precisely tested in the open field for a couple of years.
