A Case of Equine Endometritis Caused by Candida albicans (Candida albicans 에 의한 말의 자궁내막염 1예)

  • A seven-year old mare had endometritis after history of abortion and repeated intra-uterine infusion of antibiotics. She showed hyperemia and oedema of the cervical mucosa with grayish white purulent discharge. Candida albicans was determined to be the causative agent of the endometritis. The diagnosis was established by the direct demonstration of the pathogen in the uterine exudate and its isolation in pure, heavy and luxuriant growth. In vitro disc diffusion test showed the organism was sensitive to all the four antifungal drugs tested, which are amphotericin B, clotrimazole, fluconazole and nystatin. The intrauterine nystatin infusion was found very effective as C. albicans could not be recovered 7 days after the last treatment.

A Case of Recurrent Spontaneous Abortion Successfully Delivered by Using Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (착상전 유전진단을 이용하여 성공적으로 분만한 반복자연유산 1례)

  • Objective: To report the successful delivery in a patient of recurrent spontaneous abortion caused by chromosomal abnormality. Material and Method: Case report. Results: Twelve oocytes were obtained by in vitro fertilization. Of eleven oocytes fertilized, two embryos turned out to be normal by using fluorescent in situ hybridization on blastomere biopsy. The patient succeeded in pregnancy and the result of amniocentesis was found to be normal. She delivered the healthy female baby by cesarean section. Conclusions: The successful delivery is possible in recurrent spontaneous abortion related with reciprocal translocation by using preimplantation genetic diagnosis.

  • The purpose of this study was to propose an effective field test for assessing the cardiovascular endurance of soccer players by comparing the shuttle run test and the Yo-Yo intermittent recovery test (Yo-Yo test), which are representative of the aerobic exercise performance test, with the VO2max and other sprint tests. The shuttle run test requires the subject to run continuously without a break interval, while the Yo-Yo test has a break interval, so that they run with the recovery period. Therefore, the Yo-Yo test can be used as an effective field test for evaluating the cardiopulmonary function considering the characteristics of the soccer players of intermittent training.

  • A study was conducted to investigate the effect of dietary supplementation of feedstuff of Chlorella (Chlorella vulgaris) to replace of antibiotic in the diets of broiler chickens. A total of 720 1-d-old straight run broiler chicks (Ross ${\times}$ Ross) was randomly assigned into six treatments with four replicate pens (30 birds/replicate pen) for 5-wk. A corn-soy bean meal basal diet was formulated, the treatment groups were negative group (NC, antibiotic-free diet) and 0.1% virginiamycin in as antibiotic growth promoters (PC), 1.0% fresh liquid Chlorella (T1), 1.0% dried Chlorella powder (T2), 1.0% commercial Chlorella product and 1.0% (T3) and commercial Chlorella product 0.5% (T4) were added to the basal diet to form six dietary treatments. No significant differences were found among the treatments for feed intake and feed conversion of broiler chickens during the whole experimental period, but the BW gain was significantly higher (P<0.05) in commercial Chlorella product supplemental groups than the control group (NC and PC groups). Dietary supplementation of Chlorella significantly (P<0.05) increased the plasma IgA, IgM and IgG concentration of chicks compared to NC and PC groups. Supplemental AGPs and commercial chlorella product did not affect the E. coli and Salmonella concentration in the intestinal microflora of broiler chicks; however, the population of Lactobacillus was significantly increased (P<0.05) when birds were fed commercial Chlorella product groups. It is concluded that commercial Chlorella product supplementation could be used as an alternative of antibiotics to promote growth and immune response by increasing the production of lactic acid bacteria in the intestinal microflora of broiler chickens.

Shell Deposits in the Lower Cretaceous Hasandong Formation from Daesong-ri, Geumnam-myeon, Hadong-gun - Occurrences, Taphonomy, Paleoenvironments, and Implications in Geological Heritage - (하동군 금남면 대송리 부근의 하산동층에서 산출되는 패각화석층 - 산상, 화석화과정, 고환경 및 지질유산으로서의 의미 -)

  • Paleoenvironments of the shell deposit-bearing sequence in the Hasandong Formation at Daesong-ri area, Hadong-gun, Korea, are interpreted on the basis of sedimentary facies and taphonomy of the shell deposits, with a discussion of their stratigraphic implications. A shell deposit-bearing sequence without reddish beds is mostly grayish, and the bedding is laterally extensive. These deposits are interpreted to have been formed in sandflats, mudflats, and shallow lakes generated by flooding on an alluvial plain. The shell deposits are classified into three types according to the occurrence, and the concentration of a single species of Brotiopsis wakinoensis in the shell deposits is deemed to have been attributed to the exclusive inhabitation of the genus Brotiopsis. Type 1 and 2 shell deposits are interpreted to have been fossilized in sandflats and mudflats after death in their habitat of shallow lakes and subsequent transformation by sheetflooding and lake flooding. Type 3 shell deposits are interpreted to have been fossilized in their habitat of shallow lakes during a stabilized period of lake development. The development of the shell deposit-bearing lacustrine sequence in a few tens of meters in thickness in the Hasandong Formation of fluvial deposits is compared to the shift of depositional environments from the Hasandong Formation (fluvial deposits) through the Jinju Formation (lacustrine deposits) to the Chilgok Formation (alluvial plain deposits), which suggests that additional lithostratigraphic classification is needed in the Hasandong Formation. The shell deposits at the study area can provide valuable data to understanding the paleoenvironments during the Early Cretaceous Period of Korea, and should give basic data to evaluate the value of the Cretaceous mollusc deposits in Korea as a geological heritage.

  • This study was conducted to evaluate effect of liquid fertilizer contained medium of Lactobacillus confusa and Pichia anoala on growth of creeping bentgrass(Agrostis palustris Huds. CV. Pennlixs). By application method of liquid fertilizer, the experiment plot was designed as following; NF was non-fertilized treatment, control was applied with compound fertilizer and treatment 1(T-1), treatment 2(T-2) and treatment 3(T-3) were applied with compound fertilizer and liquid fertilizer solution diluted 500, 300 and 100 folds, respectively. The every treatments was arranged a randomized complete block with three replications. Compared with NF, leaf color index of control, T-1, T-2 and T-3 in creeping bentgrass was increased 7.4%, 7.5%, 77% and 7.2%, respectively and chlorophyll content of T-1, T-2 and T-3 in creeping bentgrass was increased 45.7%, 45.6%, 52.1% and 49.6%, respectively, and T-2 and T-3 was increased 4.4% and 2.7% more than control. Dry weight of T-1, T-2 and T-3 was increased 2.7%, 13.8% and 13.9% more than control, when compared to control. These results were found that turfgrass qualities and growth was improved in treatment applied to compound fertilizer and solution of liquid fertilizer diluted 300 folds.

Effects of Molasses Supplementation on the Quality of Galgeuntang Meal Silage and the Palatability in Korean Native Goats (당밀의 첨가가 갈근탕박 사일리지의 품질과 산양의 기호성에 미치는 영향)

  • Two experiments were conducted to investigate the effects of molasses supplementation to silage materials in ensiling Galgeuntang (herbal medicine) meal on the quality of silage, and its palatability in Korean native goats. In experiment I, molasses was added at the levels of 0, 0.5, and 1.0% to Galgeuntang meal with three replicates per treatment. In experiment II, three 1.5-yr-old Korean native goats were used to measure palatability. In experiment I, lactic acid contents in molasses treatments were significantly(p<0.05) higher, and pH and butyric acid contents were lower than those of non-molasses treatment. In addition, molasses treatment increased total microbial cell counts in MRS medium for lactobacillus, but decreased total microbial cell counts in PDA medium for fungi. Molasses supplementation to silage materials increased in vitro dry matter disappearance. Molasses supplementation tended to increase silage intake in Korean native goat (experiment II), but the difference was not significant(p>0.05). It is concluded that molasses supplementation to silage materials in ensiling herbal medicine meal could improve its preservability and palatability, the higher the better.

  • PLA 즉 폴리유산섬유는 옥수수를 발효하여 글루코오스(포도당)상태를 만든 후 젖산(유산, Lactic acid)으로 만들고 이것을 탈수, 축합반응시켜 polylactic acid로 만든 것이다. 생분해성이 있으므로 저탄소, 녹색성장의 모토를 대변하는 소재라는 이점이 있다. 구조는 에스테르기의 반복단위를 가지는 소수성 섬유로 벤젠환은 없으나 그 외 구조는 폴리에스테르와 비슷하며, 에스테르기가 존재하므로 분산염료와 수소결합하여 염착된다. 그러나 PLA는 융점이 $170^{\circ}C$, Tg $57^{\circ}C$로 내열성이 낮아서 염색온도, 열처리온도, 다림질에 제약이 있으며, 알칼리에 약한 단점이 있다. 따라서 PLA섬유는 낮은 염착량, 내알칼리성, 염착온도 때문에 염색 및 후가공 단계에 많은 사전 실험을 통한 조건 설정이 필요한 까다로운 섬유이다. 본 연구에서는 (주)휴비스의 PLA원사로 제직한 직물(경사:DTY 75/72SD, 위사:DTY 100/72SD, 조직:DOBBY) 생지에 대하여 열처리 시 장력의 유무, 온도, 시간에 따른 폭의 변화를 측정하여 수축률을 알아보았다. 또한, PLA직물을 온도별로 정련한 후 열처리하여 인열강도 측정을 통해 최적 전처리 조건을 조사하였다. 실험결과, PLA생지를 무장력 상태에서 열처리 시 수축이 심하게 일어나고, 장력이 주어져도 열처리 온도에 따라 수축의 정도에 차이가 나타났다. 열처리 시간은 30, 60, 90, 120초로 주었으나 큰 편차는 없었고, 경사가 위사보다 수축 정도가 더 컸으며, $130^{\circ}C$에서는 전체적으로 수축이 심하였다. 생지의 정련에는 인산에스테르계 정련제와 약알칼리인 탄산나트륨으로 조액하여 60, 70, 80, $90^{\circ}C$에서 10분간 처리한 후, Lab. tenter(Mathis, LTE)를 이용하여 110, 120, $130^{\circ}C$에서 30, 60, 90, 120초간 열처리한 다음, KS K 0535 펜듈럼법에 의거하여 인열강도를 측정하였다. 그 결과, 상기 정련온도에서는 인열강도에 영향을 주지 않았으나, 열처리 온도가 $130^{\circ}C$일 때 현저한 강도의 저하를 나타내었다. 실험조건 하에서 가장 적절한 열처리 조건은 $110^{\circ}C$, 60초로 사료된다. 따라서 PLA의 약한 내열성과 내알칼리성 실험결과, 강도나 수축 등 물성변화가 일어나지 않도록 열처리 온도의 제어에 주의가 필요함을 확인할 수 있었다. 실제 섬유가공 작업현장에서는 일반적으로 열처리기가 $180^{\circ}C$이상의 고온으로 고정된 경우가 많은데, 작업자들에게 PLA소재에 대한 사전주의 및 공정변경에 대한 주지가 요구된다.

  • Two experiments were conducted to investigate the effects of molasses supplementation levels to silage materials in ensiling herbal medicine meal on the quality of silage, and its palatability in Korean native goats. In experimentⅠ, molasses were added at the levels of 0, 0.5, and 1.0% to herbal medicine (Deasihotang) meal, with three replicates per each level. Characterization Analysis of Functional Gochujang including Grain Syrup with Tomato Puree (토마토 퓨레 조청을 함유한 기능성 고추장의 특성 분석)

  • To add functional specialty in a traditional fermentation product, Gochujang, and improve the taste and preference, an optimum fermentation condition of Gochujang supplemented with tomato puree was established in the conditions of GCJ 14, -16, -18, and -20. Varying the salinity concentration and the manufactured fermentation products, Gochujang was analyzed by the chemical nature, change in bacterial characteristics and contents of a functional chemical, lycopene, and sensory taste. As a result, the pH change of Gochujang containing tomato puree with grain syrup was diminished during the fermentation process. Its sugar contents were repeated by the increase and decrease. In addition, the water contents, salinity, and chromaticity of the Gochujang showed no significant change. Regarding the change in bacterial characteristics, total bacterial number and lactic acid bacteria number increased, with the rate of increase depending on the fermentation process. The ratio of lactic acid bacteria number against total bacterial number was confirmed to be significantly high at the conditions of GCJ 18 and -20. No significant change in the contents of lycopene was observed during the fermentation process. Notably, the change in crude proteins, crude fat, crude ash, and carbohydrates in addition to a sensory examination including taste and preference of the manufactured Gochujang suggest that the optimal fermentation product is produced in the condition of GCJ 20. Therefore, functional Gochujang satisfying a modern preference can be produced by using tomato puree with grain syrup.
