The X ray has been widely used in both diagnosis and treatment. Recently, a miniature X ray tube has been developed for radiotherapy. The miniature X ray tube is directly inserted into the body irradiated, so that X rays can be guided to a target at various incident angles according to collimator geometry and, thus, minimize patient dose. If such features of the miniature X ray tube can be applied to development of X ray imaging as well as radiation treatment, it is expected to open a new chapter in the field of diagnostic X ray. However, the miniature X ray tube requires an added filter and a collimator for diagnostic purpose because it was designed for radiotherapy. Therefore, a collimator and an added filter were manufactured for the miniature X ray tube, and mounted on. In this study, we evaluated beam characteristics of the miniature X ray tube for diagnostic X ray system and accuracy of measuring the HVL. We used the Si PIN Photodiode type Piranha detector (Piranha, RTI, Sweden) and estimated the HVL of the miniature X ray tube with added filter and without added filter. Through an another measurement using Al filter, we evaluated the accuracy of the HVL obtained from a direct measurement using the automatic HVL calculation function provided by the Piranha detector. As a result, the HVL of the miniature X ray tube was increased around 1.9 times with the added filter mounted on. So we demonstrated that the HVL was suitable for diagnostic X ray system. In the case that the added filter was not mounted on, the HVL obtained from use of the automatic HVL calculation function provided by Piranha detector was 50% higher than the HVL estimated using Al filter. Therefore, the HVL automatic measurement from the Piranha detector cannot be used for the HVL calculation. However, when the added filter was mounted on, the HVL automatic measurement value using the Piranha detector was approximately 15% lower than the estimated value using Al filter. It implies that the HVL automatic measurement can be used to estimate the HVL of the miniature X ray tube with the added filter mounted on without a more complicated measurement method using Al filter. It is expected that the automatic HVL measurement provided by the Piranha detector enables to make kV-X ray characterization easier.
To examine the performance of a diagnostic X-ray system, we tested a linearity, reproducibility, and Half Value Layer(HVL). The linearity was examined 4 times of irradiation with a given condition, and we recorded a level of radiation. We then calculated the mR/mAs. And the measured value should not be more than 0.1. If the measured value was more than 0.1, we could know that the linearity was decreased. The reproducibility was analyzed 10 times of irradiations at 80kVp, 200mA, 20mAs and 120kVp, 300mA, 8mAs. The values from these analyses were integrated into CV equation, and we could get outputs. The reproducibility was good if the output was lower than 0.05. HVL was measured 3 times of irradiation without a filter, and we inserted additional HLV filters with 0, 1, 2, 4 mm of thickness. We tested the values until we get the measured value less than a half of the value measured without additional filter. We tested the linearity, the reproducibility, and HVL of 5 diagnostic X-ray generators in this facilities. The linearity of No. 1 and No. 5 generator didn't satisfy the standard for radiation safety around 300mA~400mA and 100mA~200mA, respectively. HVL of No.1 generator was not satisfied at 80kVp. The outputs were higher in the three-phase equipment than the single-phase equipment. The old generators need to maintain and exchange of components based on the these results. Then, we could contribute to getting more exact diagnosis increasing a quality of the image and decreasing an expose dose of radiation.
The purpose of this study is to determine the effective energy of a polyenegetic X-ray beam. The half value layer(HVL) of aluminum for 80 kVp X-ray beam was measured by using optically stimulated luminescent nanoDot dosimeters(OSLnDs). The linear attenuation coefficient(${\mu}$) was calculated using the measured HVL. And the mass attenuation coefficient(${\mu}/{\rho}$) was obtained by dividing the linear attenuation coefficient by the density(${\rho}$) of aluminum. The effective energy($E_{eff}$) of the obtained mass attenuation coefficient was determined using data of the X-ray mass attenuation coefficients for photon energies of aluminum given by National Institute of Standards and Technology(NIST). As a result, the HVL value is 2.262 mmAl. The ${\mu}$ value is $3.06cm^{-1}$. The ${\mu}/{\rho}$ value is $1.114cm^2/g$. And the $E_{eff}$ value was determined at 29.79 keV.
The purpose of this study is to compare the performance of X-ray generators installed in hospitals and universities and apply the quality control items of diagnostic X-ray generators to recognize the importance of periodic performance management. First, the reproducibility and linearity test results showed that the PAE of the reproducibility evaluation was high for the GX-650 devices that met the acceptance criteria in all the experimental conditions and lacked the periodic quality control. In the linearity evaluation, when the tube voltage was set to 100 kVp, It was measured to deviate from the error. In addition, it was found that the PAE in the low-accuracy evaluation results relative to an X-ray tube voltage and tube current of the device low occurrence frequency. The HVL experiment was included in all of the devices at the HVL by tube voltage. Therefore, it is necessary to recognize the importance of quality control of all devices rather than hospital and laboratory, and to manage the device performance by actively managing the device, and to establish a short - term quality control system like special medical devices.
The quality of continuous x-ray beam depends upon the half value layer which varies according to the geometric conditions, the filtration thickness, and the amount of accelerated voltage (KVP). Experiments were conducted on the amount of electric energy that was changed to x-ray energy, and on the relationship between KVp and the intensity of x-rays. The results were as follows: 1. The amount of x-rays were not equal under the condition of the same exposure factor. 2. The intensity of x-rays was attenuated by an exponential function the geometric conditions were "good" and it was not when they were "poor". 3. The thicker the total filtration substance was and the higher the KVp was, the bigger the amount of x-ray energy was. 4. The homogeneity of medium energy x-ray was the best, when the total filtration substance was 3.9mm A1. 5. The mean energy of continuous x-ray was about 45% of KVp.
Thanks to the rapid increase of the interest in the quality control of the General X-ray systems, this research proposes the direction of the quality control through comparing and inspecting the actual condition of the respective quality control in the Clinic, the educational institution and the hospital. The subjects of the investigation are diagnostic radiation equipment's in the clinic, the educational institution and the hospital around the capital. A test of kVp, mR/mAs out put test and reproducibility of the exposure dose, half value layer, an accordance between the light field and the beam alignment test, and lastly reproducibility of the exposure time. Then the mean difference of the percentage, the CV (Coefficient of Variation, CV) and the attenuated curve which are respectively resulted from the above tests are computed. After that we have evaluated the values according to the regulations on the Diagnostic Radiation Equipment Safety Administration regulations. In the case of the clinic and the educational institution, there were 22 general X-ray devices. And 18.2% of the kVp test, 13.6% of the reproducibility of exposure dose test, 9.1% of the mR/mAs out put test, and 13.6% of the HVL (Half Value Layer) test appeared to be improper. In the case of the hospital, however, there were 28 devices. And 7.1% of the reproducibility of exposure dose, 7.1% of the difference in the light field/ beam alignment, and 7.1% of the reproducibility of the exposure time appeared to be improper. According to the investigation, the hospital's quality control condition is better than the condition in the clinic and the educational institution. The quality control condition of the general X-ray devices in the clinic is unsatisfactory compared to the hospital. Thus, it is considered that realizing the importance of the quality control is necessary.
Recently, the number of interventional procedures has increased dramatically as an alternative of invasive surgical procedure. The need for the quality control program of the angiographic units has also increased, because of concerns about the increased patient dose and the importance of image quality of angiographic units for the successful procedures. The purpose of this study was to propose an optimal guideline for the quality control program of the angiographic units. We reviewed domestic and international standards about medical imaging system and we evaluated the quality of 61 angiographic units in Korea with the use of NEMA 21 phantom. According to the results of our study, we propose a guideline for the quality control program of the angiographic units. Quality control program includes tube voltage test, tube current test, HVL test, image-field geometry test, spatial resolution test, low-contrast iodine detectability test, wire resolution test, phantom entrance dose test. Proposed reference levels are as follows: PAE < $\pm$ 10% in tube voltage test, PAE < $\pm$ 15% in tube current test, minimum 2.3 mmAl at 80 kVp in HVL test, minimum 'acceptable' level at image-field geometry test, 0.8 lp/mm for detector size of 34-40cm, 1.0 lp/mm for detector size of 28-33cm, 1.2 lp/mm for detector size of 22-27cm in spatial resolution test, minimum 200mg/cc in low contrast iodine detectability test, phantom entrance dose should be under 10R/min, 0.012 inch wire should be seen at static wire resolution test, and 0.022 inch wire should be seen at moving wire resolution test.
The purpose of this study is to find a formula that can easily calculate the effective photon energy in the X-ray beam of mammography. The tube voltage measured for each set tube voltage was obtained using the X2 MAM Sensor. The mass attenuation coefficient for aluminum of the aluminum filter was obtained from the half value layer measurement from each measured tube voltage X-ray beam. The mass attenuation coefficient of aluminum obtained from each measured tube voltage X-ray beam was corresponded to the mass attenuation coefficient of aluminum for each photon energy obtained from NIST. The photon energy corresponding to the matching mass attenuation coefficient was determined as the effective photon energy. The formula for calculating the determined effective photon energy was obtained by polynomial matching of the effective photon energy for each tube voltage in the Origin pro 2019b statistical program as y = 28.98968-1.91738x + 0.07786x2-0.000946717x3. Here, x is the measuring tube voltage and y is the effective photon energy. The calculation formula of the effective photon energy of the mammography X-ray beam obtained in this study is considered to be very useful in obtaining the interaction coefficient between the X-ray beam and a certain substance in clinical practice.

In this study, the microstructure and gamma-ray shielding efficiency of CRT glass mortar specimen were evaluated with replacement ratio and material properties. The results show that as the replacement ratio of CRT waste glass increases, the volume of pores with diameters below 50 nm and above 400 nm is increased. Also, the half-value layer of CRT glass mortar decreased with the increasing of linear attenuation coefficient. In addition, compressive and flexural strength were reduced when CRT waste glass was replaced as the fine aggregate, but the mechanical performance of CRT mortar specimen could be obtained by substitution of the mineral admixture.
