Anticariogenic Effects and Inhibition of Glucosyltransferase Activity of Chrysanthemun indicum L. Extracts (감국(Chrysanthemun indicum L.) 추출물의 항충치효과와 Glucosyltransferase 저해활성 탐색)

  • The anticariogenic effects and inhibition of glucosyltransferase activity of Chrysanthemun indicum L. extracts were investigated against 5 strains of microorganisms. The ethanol extracts of Chrysanthemun indicum L. showed the growth inhibition effects on the Streptococcus mutans and oral bacteria. The inhibition rate of glucosyltransferase activity of Chrysanthemun indicum L. extracts showed 78.4 to 92.3% range. The extracts were analysed by using solvent fractionation, silica gel adsorption chromatography, Sephadex LH-20 column chromatography, TLC, HPLC techniques. Three components whose molecular weights ranged from 200 to 400 were confirmed to have the anticariogenic activity.

Environmental and Growth Characteristics of Pimpinella brachycarpa Habitat in Mt. Jeombong, Korea (점봉산 참나물 자생지의 환경 및 생육 특성)

  • Pimpinella brachycarpa, a summer-green perennial herb, is narrowly distributed in the moist forest floors. We investigated environmental characteristics and growth patterns of Pimpinella brachycarpa depending on the microenvironment in Mt. Jeombong located in the central part of Korea. P. brachycarpa populations were located at an altitude of 978~1016 m and the average atmospheric humidity hovered at 80 percent. Also, it was found that the soil moisture content was remarkably high, 26.7%, in the populations; organic matter 11.1~11.7%; the nitrate nitrogen 0.60%; available phosphorus 19.5~39.0 ppm; CEC $20.8{\sim}21.3cmolckg^{-1}$; soil pH 4.7~4.8 respectively. In case of growth pattern, the shoot length of individuals under the improved light condition in the sunny forest was statistically longer than in the dense forest. Therefore, we presumed that high humidity and ample soil moisture are abiotic factors of the growth of P. brachycarpa and that the amount of light affects the relative growth rate of individuals.

  • The purpose of this study is to propose an art healing program that can be used in the field to improve the quality of life and positive interaction between the elderly with mild dementia and their spouses. Therefore, after considering the preceding studies, the art healing program was constructed in five stages: survey-analysis-design-plan-implementation and evaluation based on theoretical discourse. In addition, by pilot application to the elderly with mild dementia and their spouses using the Y Dementia Relief Center, the art healing program provides internal positive resources, strengthens mutually beneficial resources between husband and wife, and improves life satisfaction and happiness by experiencing relationships with neighbors in the local community. was confirmed to be effective. This study is significant in that it proposes an art healing support plan that supports dementia patients and their families together before entering a super-aging society.

Profitability Analysis of Yield Net in Chestnut Harvest (밤 수확망 이용의 투자수익성 분석)

  • This study was carried out for preliminary feasibility review to investigate work efficiency of chestnut harvest using yield net and to find a way to reduce the cost for purchasing and managing yield net. To this end, we conducted a survey of 6 forest farm houses in Cheongyang, Gongju and Buyeo regions where yield nets are being used efficiently. Cost-benefit analysis based on Net Present Value and Benefit Cost Ratio was used to examine the investment profitability. While regions of Cheongyang A, Cheongyang B and Buyeo A are profitable in spite of no subsidy for purchasing yield net from the government, the regions of Gongju A, Gongju B and Buyeo B are not profitable without subsidy. When an 80% of subsidy for purchasing yield nets is provided, the forest farm houses in Cheongyang A, Cheongyang B, Buyeo A and Gongju B regions are found to be profitable while those in Gongju A and Buyeo B regions are still not profitable. We consider that the different results come from the differences in the planting method of chestnut, labor efficiency, labor skill and the orchard conditions such as slop. Finally, several efforts for government and cultivator are suggested to expand the use of yield net; planting chestnut in line, establishing installation and management methods, supporting the cost for purchasing yield net and studying detailed effects besides profitability issue.

A Study on the Costumes from Excavation in Gapyeong Jeonju Lee's Tomb (가평 전주이씨묘 출토복식 고찰)

  • In 1995, the costumes were restored in an unknown woman's tomb at the Jeonju Lee's family cemetery in Gapyeong, Gyeonggi-Do, and there are currently nine items remaining. In this study, we first introduced these 9 relics to academia and analyzed the morphological characteristics of the costumes. We also estimated the time and person of burial compared with costumes unearthed from other burials. Jeogories (short jacket) are all four items. One of these items was unusual in shape, and the upper part of the seop (gusset) was wrinkled and shaped. This type of Jeogori appears only till the 1520s in other tombs. There are also two skirts, one of which is characterized by a superimposed pattern. The top and bottom / middle part of the skirt were rolled up, and the skirt, which was double-rolled up in this way, was first discovered. An analysis of the shape of Jeogori and skirt indicated that the person buried in the Jeonju Lee's family tomb was believed to have survived until the early 16th century. Based on these estimated periods, as a result of looking at the genealogy of Jeonju Lee's family, it was concluded that the tomb was probably a woman named Lee Geum Myeong (李金命) born in the mid-15C and died between the late 15C and the early 16C.

Effect of Weather Conditions on Fruit Characteristics and Yield of 'Sangjudungsi' Persimmon Cultivar in Sangju, Gyeongsangbuk-do (경상북도 지방의 기상환경 변화에 따른 상주둥시 감나무의 과실특성 및 수확량)

  • This study was conducted to analyze the relationship between climate factors and fruit characteristics of 'Sangjudungsi' persimmon (Diospyros kaki THUNB) has been mainly cultivated in Sangju of Korea. We has been surveyed the yield and fruit characteristics such as fruit weight and soluble solids of 'Sangjudungsi' persimmon from 2010 to 2015 for five years. Also, as major meteorological factor, mean air temperature, cumulative temperature and days, the data of sunshine duration, diurnal range, and rainfall were collected from Sangju Regional Meteorological Administration. As result of that, the annual variation of fruit weight was affected by sunshine duration for April and October related starting point of fruit weight increase. The content of soluble solids was affected by sunshine duration for April and October similarly with fruit weight and was negatively correlated with the number of days with precipitation in the year. These results indicate the characteristics related to fruit quality like the above were affected by the sunshine duration and precipitation which is critical factor for the intensity of radiation during rapid growth period (April and October). Fruit number and yield per tree was commonly affected by mean air temperature of April and cumulative temperature days of October. These results also indicate that temperature for period of rapid growth stage of persimmon may have an important role in the fruit number and yield per tree.

Fermentation and Sensory Characteristics of Korean Traditional Honey Wine from the Saccaromyces sake, Saccharomyces bayanus and Nuruk (Saccaromyces sake, Saccharomyces bayanus와 누룩으로 제조된 전통벌꿀주의 발효 및 관능특성)

  • This study investigated the characteristics of honey wine, which was fermented by Saccaromyces sake, Saccharomyces bayanus and Nuruk. For alcohol fermentation of the diluting solution, mixtures of S. sake and Nuruk, and Nuruk and S. bayanus resulted the excellent fermentation. These conditions also produced a higher alcohol content than that from the single yeast Strain. The values of pH and acidity of honey wine showed little changes during the fermentation processes. In the case of the mixture of Nuruk and yeast, the content of reducing sugar during the fermentation processes decreased rapidly, but the content of alcohol increased. The soluble solids were $7.5\~8.1\;^{\circ}Brix$ after the fermentation period of 6 days, and the alcohol contents were represented $12.5\~13.1\%$, from the mixture of Nuruk and yeast. In addition, the sensory evaluation of honey wine with the mixture of Nuruk and yeast showed more effective results than that of the single yeast bacillus.

Profitability Analysis for Ligularia fischeri Forest Farming (곰취 임간재배 수익성 분석)

  • This study was carried out for preliminary feasibility review to consult forest farmer, to make policy and to search improvement for Ligularia fischeri forest farm. The survey for eight Ligularia fischeri forest farmer in Inje-gun was conducted. And the case study was conducted with computing labor input, gross margin, net margin in each planting stages, which is contented each cultivating stage from creating to harvesting. B/C ratio, Net Present Value and Internal Rate of Return were used for profitability analysis. The results applied 3% of discount rate showed IRR 48.6%, B/C ratio 1.5 and NPV 41 million KRW, which means high profitability. Forest farming is early step in Korean forestry so that standard methods of cultivation for that haven't established yet, and differences among farmers in productivity are being. Establishing organized methods of cultivation in each stages and being political supports are essential for income generation to forest households, supply of safe food and rest place for urbanity.

Changes in Quality of 'Mipung' Chestnut during Storage by Pre-treatment Methods after Harvest (수확 후 전처리 방법에 따른 '미풍' 밤의 저장 중 품질 변화)

  • The effects of pre-treatment methods (water cooling, water cooling+ozone, precooling+microbubble, water cooling+ozone+microbubble) after harvest on the quality of 'Mipung' chestnut were studied. Changes in quality of chestnut were greater precooling treatments effect than washing treatments. But, decaying rate and total microorganism were significantly differences among treatments. The decaying rate after 12 weeks storage was highest at 20.0% in non-treatments and lowest at 3.3% in water cooling+ozone and water cooling+ozone+microbubble treatments. The total microorganism immediately after washing treatments was in the order non-treatments (4.4 log CFU/g) > water cooling treatments (4.0 log CFU/g) > water cooling+ozone+microbubble treatments (3.5 log CFU/g) > water cooling+ozone treatments (3.4 log CFU/g) > water cooling+microbubble treatments (3.3 log CFU/g), and after 12 weeks storage was increased within 4.7 to 5.9 log CFU/g. Thus, the washing treatments, especially ozone treatments, extended the shelf-life of the 'Mipung' chestnut by inhibiting the decaying.

A Case Study on Redesigning the Retention Schedule of Common Functions in National Research Institutes of Science and Technology (과학기술분야 연구기관의 공통기능 보존기간기준표 설계 사례)

  • This study is a record of the process of jointly designing the records classification scheme and the retention schedule for archival appraisal, which are vital in records management. A total of 8 institutes participated voluntarily and redesigned the retention schedule, which consists of 16 common functions, 66 tasks, and 381 files for about 4 months. The process consists of reviewing the regulations related to the records management of the participating organizations, determining the hierarchy and scope of the retention schedule, deriving 16 common functions as well as the unit task for each function, and constructing the file of each task. In situations wherein it is difficult to expect the government-led policy and strategy specific to the research institute and the research records management, the retention schedule designed jointly by the records managers of the scientific and technological field serves as a useful records management tool. This collaborative effort between records managers of similar agency records will also be significant in jointly coping with the new policy and innovation plans in the future.
