The oil spill occurred frequently due to probably the increased consumption of oil as the energy source and the raw materials of various chemicals. For the treatment of oil contaminated groundwater, DAF(Dissolved Air Flotation) is being used but the removal efficiency is low. Therefore it is necessary to reduce the free phase oil, oil-in water type or water-in oil type emulsified oil, and soluble oil which are the main sources of contaminated groundwater. In this study, treatment of contaminated groundwater was performed using the Fenton oxidation process. The optimum conditions for the removal of THP(Total Petroleum Hydrocarbon) were 3 of pH, 25mM of $H_2O_2$ concentration and 25mM of $Fe^{2+}$ concentration. THP and COD(Chemical Oxygen Demand) concentrations decreased less than 1.5mg/L and 40.0mg/L in 7 minutes using DAF and Fenton oxidation process. However it is necessary to install the settling basin as the sludge concentration increased approximately 5 times.

The temperature change in the biologically activated sludge wastewater treatment process was predicted using the heat transfer model. All incoming and outgoing heats in wastewater treatment processes were considered. Incoming heats included the solar radiation heat, the heat from impeller mechanical energy, and the biochemical heat in the aeration process. Outgoing heats comprised the radiation heat from the waste itself, the heat of vaporization and surface aeration, the wind convection heat and the conduction heat between the surface and aerator. All heats were used as an input to the existing empirical heat transfer model. The heat transfer model of wastewater treatment processes is presented also. To test the validity of the heat transfer model, the operating conditions of the actual wastewater treatment plant were used. The temperatures were compared with the model temperatures. Model predictions were consistent within the $1.0^{\circ}C$.

A most important thing in a connected dominating set(CDS)-based routing in a wireless ad-hoc network is to select a minimum number of dominating nodes and then build a backbone network which is made of them. Node failure in a CDS is an event of non-negligible probability. For applications where fault tolerance is critical, a traditional dominating-set based routing may not be a desirable form of clustering. It is necessary to minimize the frequency of reconstruction of a CDS to reduce message overhead due to message flooding. The idea is that by finding alternative nodes within a restricted range and locally reconstructing a CDS to include them, instead of totally reconstructing a new CDS. With the proposed algorithm, the resulting number of dominating nodes after partial reconstruction of CDS is not changed and also its execution time is faster than well-known algorithm of construction of CDS by 20~40%. In the case of high mobility situation, the proposed algorithm gives better results for the performance metrics, packet receive ratio and energy consumption.

Two different UHPCCs having different fiber lengths and volume fractions are considered to be applied to bridge decks. The objective of this study is to estimate cracking resistance of the two UHPCCs. The notched beam tests were performed with the UHPCCs, and the relationships between load and CMOD(Crack Mouth Opening Displacement) were obtained from the tests. The tensile stress and crack opening relationships optimally fitting the measured load-CMOD curves were found through the inverse analyses. The UHPCC with 2% volume fraction of 13 mm long fiber has lower fracture energy than the UHPCC with 0.5% and 1.0% volume fractions of 16.3 mm and 19.5 mm long fibers, respectively. It indicates that the latter UHPCC is more effective in uniformly distributing crack formation and reducing crack width.

In order to represent the surface characteristics in local meteorological model, soil type, vegetation index, surface roughness length, surface albedo and leaf area index should be prescribed on the surface process parameterization. In this study, the $1^{\circ}/1^{\circ}leaf$ area index, surface roughness length, and snow free surface albedo and fine mesh NDVI with seasonal variation derived from the satellite observation were applied to the land surface process parameterization. From comparison between with and without satellite data in the interactions between biosphere and atmosphere, land and atmosphere, the sensitivity of the simulated heat, energy and water vapor fluxes, ground temperature, wind, canopy water content, specific humidity, and precipitation fields were investigated.

The results of the analysis of the structural behavior of diagrid nodes that were subjected to cyclic loads such as wind and earthquakes was not fully understood due to difficulties in considering the welding type. In this study, diagrid nodes were tested to determine their behavior when they are subjected to seismic or wind loads. Five specimens were designed and fabricated. The corresponding test parameters were the welding type for each point and the length of the overlap of the side stiffener and the brace web. Tensile force was applied to one diagrid brace member, and compression force was applied to the other diagrid brace member. Cyclic loading was applied until the failure. The test showed that failures are due to axial stress from axial force and the additional bending moment of the two combined axial forces that have different directions. Tensile failure was observed from the tensile force, and local buckling was observed from the compressive force at the flange of the brace member. In addition, the welding type and the length overlap affected the initial stiffness, the yielding stress, and the energy absorption of the diagrid node.

The main objective of a torque controller below rated wind speed is to extract maximum power from the potential wind energy. To do this, the torque control method, which adjusts the torque magnitude and makes it proportional to the square of the generator speed, has been applied. However, this method makes the response slower as the wind turbines are getting larger in size with multi-MW capacities. In this paper, a torque control method that uses the nonlinear parameter of rotor speed for aerodynamic torque as a control gain is discussed to improve the response by adjusting an additional torque magnitude. The nonlinear parameter of the rotor speed could be calculated both online and offline. It is shown that the offline case is more practical and effective in producing power through the numerical simulation of a 2MW wind turbine by considering the real turbulence wind speed.

The yaw control, a major part of the wind turbine, is closely related to the efficiency of electric power production and the mechanical load. The yaw error, which results from the nacelle not being appropriately aligned in the wind direction, not only decreases the power output but also reduces the lifetime of the wind turbine as a result of large fatigue loads. However, the yawing rate cannot be increased indefinitely because of constraints on mechanical loads. This paper investigates the characteristics of an active yaw control system, the basic principle of the system, and mechanical loads around the yaw axis during yawing.

The destructive method is reliable and widely used for the estimation of material degradation but, it have time-consuming and a great difficulty in preparing specimens from in-service industrial facilities. Therefore, the estimation of degraded structural materials by nondestructive evaluation is strongly desired. In this paper, the use of guided wave was suggested for the evaluation on thermally damaged 2.25Cr-1Mo steel as an alternative way to compensate for limitations of fracture tests. The observation of microstructure variations of the material including carbide precipitation increase and spheroidization near grain boundary was conducted and the correlation with the guided wave features such as energy loss ration and group velocity changes was investigated. Through this study, the feasibility of ultrasonic guided wave evaluation for thermally damaged materials was explored.
For the preliminary judgement on the chemical stability of concrete aggregates mixed with cement paste, ASTM C 295 method can be applied prior to the long-term chemical test methods. By using this standard test method, the petrographic study on the appropriateness of natural KEDO aggregates for concrete was carried out. With the natural gravel and sand aggregates, the polarized microscope, stereoscopic microscope, and X-ray diffractometer were used for examination. The result shows the 23% of gravel aggregates and 5.1% of sand aggregates are chemically unstable. To select the favorable KEDO concrete aggregates, it is required to exclude the highly metamorphosed rocks, acidic volcanic rocks, highly foliated rocks, and expansive rocks identified from mortar-bar test. Further chemical test and mortar-bar test method integrated with this study is recommended for the suitability assessment of natural KEDO concrete aggregates.
